Trouble removing top label from cases

Has anyone else had trouble removing the top label from new games? I'm not talking rental stickers, but the one that is placed at the top of the case to ensure that the game has never been opened. My problem is not that I can't get them off, but I can't always get them off without tearing the front insert a little at the top. The insert should theoretically be protected by the clear plastic that wraps around the case, but sometimes it gets pushed up a little and sticks to the adhesive of the label so when you remove the label, part of the insert tears off as well. I was just wondering if this is a problem only I have or if others have it as well.

I've never had that problem. Then again, I never turn my game cases upside down when I remove the plastic wrapping and the security strip.

The method I use is simple. I open the case with the security strip still in place. These things are designed to tear easily so it works quite well. From there I grab the corner of one of the two halves and slowly peel the sticker off. I make sure the sticker is peeling at an angle rather than straight.

Get a sharp knife, and cut across on the top along the opening line. I do that and the rest comes off easily.

No method fixes this problem. It's just a packaging error that you get delt sometimes. The first time I had it happen - it happened three times in a row. Havn't had any more issues since then - but it's not avoidable unless you care to cehck at the store before you buy it and examine it closely.

Maybe Googone? leave it for 5 mins then sticker peels off. But Ive never had problems with the sticker on top..I just use a knife to cut thru the middle and peel it carefully.

I've had this problem with a DVD or two, but no PS2 games so far. I always check to see that the game cover is completely covered by the plastic when I buy games. I've been lucky when ordering stuff online so far.

If you're really worried about it tearing the cover, go buy a second copy at a store like BB or CC before opening the first one, then return the first one at BB or CC.

I have a number of used discs that have little tears in the plastic cover where that sticker was, so a lot of people have problems with this. There's a little tab on the back side of the sticker that says "PULL." If I gently start there, I can usually get the sticker off in one big piece.

I've had it happen a couple of times too. I only get the rip if I yank too hard on the strip while taking it off, the idea is if you can snag the pull tab (not always easy because some of those stickers aren't on right or the adhesive is too strong) and lift the edge of it little by little as you go across.

if its the plastic thats getting yanked you;re better off cutting through the top like already mentioned then peeling away slowly form the top side instead of the pull tab.

Another solution (which was just suggested to me a few days ago and proven to work yesterday) is to use a hair dryer on low setting. This heats the glue enough that the sticker will come off the cover insert without damaging it.

Worked great on my copy of the recalled Ed Wood DVD, which had the cover insert shoved up underneath the security strip (and I wasn't going to find another copy to swap it with!).
