i have a bad time sleeping and the idea of staying up a whole day or two or five doesn't sound at all impossible to me or anything. But the sound of getting a decent 10 12 or 6 hrs of sleep seems IMPOSSIBLE and so far ive been awake for 20 hrs. doesnt seem that bad.. but if you got school tomorrow it kills and the whole sleeping pattern gets messed up.. sooo im sure some other CAG folks have dealt this before ..

what are some ways to go to sleep normally

(and looking at that question it seems sorta a stupid question but answer away)

Usually listening to music while in bed helps me to sleep. Another thing is try turning on a fan or have some white noise in the background. My old roomate couldn't sleep without the fan on, even if it was freezing out, just because he was so use to sleeping with it on. Also if you don't feel like taking sleeping pills, try some allergy medicine like Benadryl, they'll make you drowsy. Hope some of this helps.

i have the problem on weekends but on the school nights i work so im tired anyways so its not a problem. Do something outside or something. STOP PLAYING GAMES AND DO SOMETHING

I've always had trouble sleeping, but to be honest you just have to train your mind and body to get a good nite's sleep. You can use sleeping pilss at first but don't make a habit of it. My suggestion is to try going to sleep no later than about 12:30 am, and even if you don't fall asleep, don't get up because you eventually will doze off.

You can take sleeping pills for the 1st few days to help out, but sometimes they will make you tired in the morning if you don't get a full 8-10 hrs sleep. If you establish a good cycle for about a week or so, your body should get used to it and you'll have a lot less trouble sleeping.

Practice good sleep hygiene. My wife is a fourth year medical student and that is what she harps on and on about whenever I have a bout of insomnia. The general idea is getting up and going to bed at the same time every single, solitary day. I don't do it, but maybe you would wanna.

thanks for the tips but doesnt sleeping pills and those drowsy medicine affect something bad about your sleep? like your REM or whatever it is call. and playing games is something  and i do listen to music when i sleep and it use to be like halfway through this song i would just be asleep.. i dont know why i can just SLEEP sleep.. and i do hear that running is good in order for a person to sleep? any takers? but ima try those idea thanks you guys

I'm also used to sleeping with some moderate noise in the background, which is why I have a "nature sounds" feature built into my clock. Though it doesn't work for everyone, the sounds (I.E. ocean waves, etc.) are soothing to me and help me fall asleep.

Yeah, there's no shaq-fuing way anyone is gonna get up at 5:45 AM on weekends.

I had real problems getting to sleep during the summer, but the school year routine of getting up at 5:45 AM to get to school on time has helped me get to sleep far more quickly.

One thing that helps me to get to sleep is to watch an episode or two of an anime that isn't too crazy or violent (I've done this with stuff like Boys over Flowers, Chobits, and Azumanga Daioh) while lying down on your bed if there is a TV in your room. If you're somewhat sleep-deprived, it will calm you down and make you more tired. I can get to sleep nearly immediately using this.

I haven't had good sleep for almost a decade now. Only when I am sick and I don't have to worry about much stuff except getting better is when I can enjoy sleeping. Otherwise every night before I go to sleep I am always stressed out about life and shit that I can't get my mind to relax. I usually listen to music to calm me down, or read a book, watch tv or play games to get my eyes tired, and eventually want to close them and sleep, but even then I am not enjoying my sleep.

5:45?!?!?! That's really early, are you one of those little twit's who goes into school like ten minutes early and waits for it to start?

Yeah, I don't think anyone should have to get up at 5 unless their school starts in the late 6's. Back in high school, I used to get up at 6.30.

i'd say if you cant sleep, catch up on some gaming... do a little online gaming or something..

sometimes i'll get in bed at like 10 PM (i usually dont get in bed until 11) so i'm thinkin i'll get a little extra sleep, and i'll just lay there and not be able to fall asleep till around 2 AM..

and then when i realize that i just layed there for 4 hours when i could've been watching tv or playing some video games it kinda makes me mad...

Yeah, that happens to me too. I hate myself for a minute or two because of that. Thing is, it's so unpredictable that you can't really know if it'll take you so long to get to sleep or not. :(

Go work out or running a few hours before you go sleep. The idea is to get yourself really tired then you won't have trouble sleeping. Avoid caffeine drinks at night. Or try reading a really boring book. Sleep naked if it is too hot.

i am tired.. but it just that i cant sleep. maybe my mind is just too boogled up.. and i tried watching soemthing likea mellow anime like chobits before didnt really help i tried to catch up on naruto.. lol i know bad choice and this was the day school started.

reading a boring book gets my eyes tired or like some kind of sharp pain but it doesnt get me to sleep.. and i played some games before i sleep.. lol it worked one time.. when it was the summer and i feel asleep playin games but woke up 2 hrs later

i also remember working out some hrs before bed.. for some reason that doesnt help.. but then again its just doing crunches and sits ups for an hr nothing too big.

and i do avoid caffeine.. i never drink coffee. im naturally awake like allt he time or something

and yay im still up and going.. just playing games though .. but now im just awake.. even though inside i know im slowly killing my insides

The sleeping pills work for me, although I end up feeling almost hung over the next day. I would not do it except for an isolated occurrance. Laying in bed and waiting to fall asleep doesn't work for me either, although reading a book usually does. I know that listening to music and going for a walk helps some people, but I have never tried this since it is really not all that safe for a woman to be wandering around alone late at night. Usually when I have insomnia, it is caused by consuming too much caffiene during the day, stress, and/or a messed up sleep schedule. It is hard to resist the urge to take a nap when I am really tired after work, for instance, or to not sleep in on the weekends. Both of these things can just make it harder to sleep at night.
