TRU - Buy 2 get third FREE (all platforms) 10/27
what are the specifics of this deal, like when u buy 2 games does the 3rd one have to be of equal or lesser value?
Obviously the cheapest of the 3 games you purchase is the free one.

I was able to get Circuit City (right down the street from TRU) to price match this last year which was cool because they had a MUCH better inventory of Gamecube titles than TRU!

I'm definitely there for Paper Mario and Donkey Konga (w/controller of course). Now what do I do for a third title...

Another copy of Donkey Konga of course! Then you'll have two congas!
Last year, I bought 4 games and go two free. But I got gift receipts and returned the four games for $200 in credit. I then waited for the late November and December releases to get the games I truly wanted. Also, my free games were SSX3 and Disgaea. This year I'll probably plan to do the game but use the credit to buy Christmas gifts for my cousin and maybe a game or two for myself. That way, since I'm going to buy all those presents anyway, at least I'll get 2 free games for it...
Can we not brag about fradulent behavior please?

That is an awesome plan. But I don't know if I can hold out that long for the crazy Konga action!

TRU has had this deal every year around the end of October for about 3 years now, that I can remember.

So, expect it to happen.

Here's a neat trick too. If there is a game coming out after the discount which you really want, like say Halo2, just buy something else that's $50 and which will still be $50 in November...don't open it...when Halo2 comes out on Nov 9 exchange that game for Halo2. Some employees have given me a hard time about this in the past but their policy permits it...they just don't like it.

Is anyone clear on this:

A date?

New or Old titles?

Restrictions or Rules?

An official link or pic?

Well, it's not set in stone yet...so wait (10/27 is the approximate date)

There have never been any restrictions in the past (to my knowledge)...not sure about multiple copies, but I think that's ok too.
The cheapest game will be your FREE game (which is dummy knowledge)

It's Possible TRU give you 2 Gift Receipt when you buy 2 games get 1 FREE because I do want to give something they already have it.

Time Crisis: Crisis Zone (For Myself)
Donkey Konga (My nephew)
Shin Megami Tensei: Noturne or Growlanser (My RPG friend)

they only will give credit for the one game at $33 dollars plus tax because last time they had a buy two movie get one free deal in springtime I had to pay extra to get the dvd that was a new release. I t may matter what person you get and how many times you have returned things.

I hope the date is accurate. When the time comes, I'll pick up Killzone, GTA San Andreas, and Predator Concrete Jungle or X-Men Legends if I don't buy X-Men sooner.

Yea, me either. I really wanted to get this so the wife and I could play. That was until she read a preview I handed her. She was so nonchalant about it that I decided to only get one set of bongo's and play by myself. Hopefully she will get jealous. :D

Yup, that's what I did last year, in fact, the manager at the store suggested that I do that! I wanted to get SSX3, but they were out of stock so he told me to just buy another $50 game and then exchange it when they got SSX3 in stock.

I picked up RS3, ESPN NFL, and ESPN NHL last year. I'll probably just pick 3 solid $50 titles and return them for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Ghost REcon 2, and KOTOR 2 for Xbox. I'd gladly pay $33 for each of those titles...

$200 plus taxes that i can affort for the sale (2 Free games for myself to keep and 4 games for Holiday gift).

Also, When I gift someone a game with the Gift Receipt and they already have the game. So, i have to with them to exchange different game ??

Thanks

Does anyone know how long these deals usually last? Any chance of it lasting the full month so I can (more easily) use it for Metroid and MGS3?
Good, I'll keep this on my mind then. I'll try to pick up games like Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Growlanser: Generations, and Ace Combat 5 around that time, if the deal happens on that date.
Good idea, 3 Growlanser: Generations Collectors Edition. $270worth for $180

It will last for one week if it is like what they have done in the past.

Or you could just pre-order... At least, that's what I did last year with Prince of Persia and Ratchet + Clank. I think I read somewhere that preorders aren't supposed to work with the deal though, hopefully I'll be able to get away with it again this year because most of the games I want are coming out in November.

Remember the delays for Arc The Lad Collection? Methinks you won't see Growlanser this year, unless Working Designs has changed the practices they've executed in the last 10 years.

Thanks BBB for the heads-up! Hopefully there will be a sale... Even if it will make me even more broke.

I'm planning on picking up some $20 dollar games (Jak II, R&C: Going Commando, and maybe even some new GBA ones...
I can't believe this thread is this long. It's not even confirmed yet (although it looks good sicne they do it every year)
Just what I was thinking. Anyways I am looking to get Viewtiful Joe, KOTOR and R&C: Going Commando for my first B2G1.

That was only the case online -- They had a limited selection of games for the deal. In-store it was good for any of the games.

Would Price Matching work? I have a feeling TRU will be cleaned out by the time I get there, so could I take it to Walmart, Compusa, or somplace like that and get a pricematch? Anyone tried this and have it work? B/C I want to get Burnout 3, Paper Mario, and Donkey Konga.

Almost definitely not. Skip work or school on Wednesday if you're serious. I'm actually considering it...

BBB, are you sure this doesn't start Sunday October 24th? I saw a list of deals for October, but no ROTO or deal was listed for the 27th. Do you know what ROTO it is or any other details? Just trying to find out more so I can check the deal out.

And some stores are really strict about trading games. For example, one district had all their stores not allow exchanges of games for games that came out later. I think this year they'll probably be pretty strict, so it will probably take a little work to get them to let you trade one of these games for Halo 2(all the games show up as $33 on your receipt, so thats the credit some stores will give you towards another game).

Here is how I got the information. In the Store Director's office there is a deals list from September to November. One of the things that stuck out was...

10/27 Buy 2 get third FREE (all platforms)

There were other deals and such but that was the BIG one. Also for some reason the SKN for a "Green/Orange GBA SP" is popping up. It could be a black friday exclusive SP. Don't know yet but it does sound like an odd choice.

But why would I want to lie? It is more than likely going to start on the SUNDAY... but that is the date that it had listed.

Also I am VERY strict about deals and stuff. If someone tries to do that return a game to buy a game later I flat out tell them no. Mainly because it is for the current selection of games, so if I look at their recepit they can get another game but the game has to have been released by that time... so at my store I would not allow Halo 2. But that is me.

Also i'd laugh in your face if you try to return something without a recepit. I know the deal... go run to Wal-Mart, let them deal with it. It is an excellent deal so there is no real point to trying to like go about it all shady. I am sure if you WANT Halo 2, you can just ask a buddy for $50 to buy it and give them a game want now.

Hmmm, I know that wasn't the case last year B&M at least the store I went to because I picked up 3 $30 games.

I visited my local TRU today and got the 'Mummy Returns' game and movie pack for $10. (I have a fulscreen copy of the movie I got for free that will now be trade-in fodder and cut my cost for the two down to about $5. Not a great movie but some nicely done action and FX bits I like to have for reference.) I got to talking to the R-Zone section manager and he wouldn't come out an say it but offered no suggestion I was incorrect when referring to their severely depleted inventory and the upcoming B2G1 sale. He said the number of new releases should get shelves full to bursting again by then. This may mean a lack of lower priced titles but still a good sale.

sorry for being wrong. for some reason it just stuck in my head that it was 39.99 and 49.99 games only.

BBB, thanks for the info. Makes sense it would be that week anyway since it always seems to be the week GTA comes out. I was just wondering where the info came from because I didn't see anything for 10/27, maybe I'll be able to check out the Sunday thing I saw to see if it starts that day.

You're right about being strict. I hate people that try to take advantage of the system, but if people complain enough a lot of stores will let them exchange it for another game. Of course we'll let them exchange it for another game, but they only get $33 credit so they end up paying $17 more for another game(or we make them return all 3 games and rering them at the current price without the free deal).

Also, besides the green/orange SP listed in the computer, the new Xbox 2004 Bundle is listed, too. I think its expected late October.

Do the 3 games have to be for the same platform, or can you mix and match? For example, can I get 2 PS2 games and 1 GC game and get 1 of them free? Can anyone confirm this? I'm really curious because there are 2 new PS2 games I really want and also 2 new GC games I really want :?

My past experience was that it was all platform neutral. The only thing that mattered was price, as in the lowest priced item of the three you choose is the one that will be free. If they're all of equal value it doesn't matter. Whichever one is rung third will be the free one.

Ty the Tasmanian Tiger 2 is due out that week for only $20. Hopefully Nightshade and Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, both $20 now, will still be in stock. I should have some credit certificates from my TRU Visa by then so this could work out really well, less than $12 a game after tax.

A price drop on R-Type Final by then would be handy, too. EB already has it down to $20, so how about it, TRU?

Yeah I would also recommend that people PRE-ORDER a certain game if they want it that week. cough*GTA*cough because I am sure we will get a ton of copies but you never know with this deal people could buy 3 copies just to sell later.

I could have sworn that I saw it for $20 at TRU when I went this afternoon.

Still $30 at the Stevenson Ranch/Valencia store as of this afternoon. I looked It called to me, sweetly beckoning...

I bought R-Type Final two weeks ago (then later returned it) from Toys'R'Us... Unless there's been a price drop since then, it should be 30 dollars.
