TRU Gift Card question

Hey,

I purchased four copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops back at launch for me and three friends. The promotion at the time gave $25 each copy of the game and netted me a $100 gift card. The card expires at the end of this month. I was hoping to use the credit to pre-purchase a Nintendo 3DS whenever it releases in March, but TRU hasn't started taking pre-sells yet and I fear they may not until after my card has expired.

So, is it possible for me to buy some games with a total value of over $100 and then return them to get credit placed on a new gift card? I'm hoping someone here has tried something similar in the past and can enlighten me.

Thanks!
why not just buy a $25 gift card? (no expiration)
You can't because....
I don't think TRU lets you buy a GC with a GC.
The OP's idea will work, in theory, though the store may look at you a little funny if you try this. Completely OK in theory, and should work in practice.

They will let you do it.

I do it all the time wiht my TRU "expiring" gift cards.

I also saw on another site that promotional materials for pre-selling 3DS has been seen at certain stores. Looks like I may not have to go through the buy/return process after all. :)

Edit: Here's the link in case anyone was wondering.
