Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.

Katamari Damacy will be mine once the 50% off sale kicks in on the 14th...

Thank God, I'm pretty sure Princess is sick of seeing me wandering around R-Zone every other day when I'm bored. Can finally clear out what I'm considering purchasing once it hits 50.

I picked up R-Type Final yesterday the sticker price was $9.99 but when I paid for it I got it for $6.99 plus tax I saved $3.00.

Sorry if this was already asked somewhere 22 pages back..but I'm wondering if these green tag sales are also online too? Because it seems like TRU has games marked down as low as $5.29 right now. So, I'm wondering if there's some kind of green tags online or if these are just regular TRU online marked down prices?

I never see shit on sale at my TRU.. the $7.99 price on the ps2 memory card looks good, but who knows if it'll be marked that way. Is this just extremely YMMV?

Don't you mean the 14th?
:)
Dude. Half of those games aren't even on the green tag list. And Cold Fear for $10? Which would make it $20.. which it's not, it's still retailing for $49.99.. except at Gamestop.com, where it's $29.99.

Stopped by a TRU today. There was a cart full of the 50% off banners and signs. I asked when they were going up. I was told the 20th. I'll still be heading back on the 14th, but there may be some YMMV in the date of the next discount.

Only thing I see as worth getting at 50% is Airforce Delta Strike for 10 bucks, and maybe Ribbit King for 5.

Can't wait for 90%, though.

going to grab my games thursday or friday since im going to be at the lake sunday and wont be back till 5 or so . i buy them at 30% take them back and rebuy them if they allow. If not i just return them

We got the 50% off green tag sign kit at our store today too. I noticed that it said that the promotion dates were from Aug 14 to Sept 26...I think that means that 70% will be starting on Sept 27. Just thought I'd post that in case anyone besides me was looking beyond the 50% discount. :)

So wait, R&C3 might be 10 bucks by the end of August? =o
That almost looks like a mistake to me, but then I guess a lot of those others have been high retail priced too. I just kinda zoomed in on the one that I wanted the most. >_>

I went to TRU to help my wife get a baby shower gift, and I found my way to the games. It seems as if nobody is biting on the 30% off anywhere in the store. And the games are no different. I've got to save up for the 50% sale, and maybe play some of these unopened games.

I'm really really tempted by the Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Fire Emblem at the 50% off...hopefully my TRU will still have copies come Sunday. :D

Sept 27??? Holy crap, that's awesome!

No way. The 27th?

Damn. I guess they really want to move this shit.

I'll see what I can find out today.

Well, the timeline makes sense. The start of the 30% sale was July 3rd, the 50% starts this sunday. That about the same amount of time as between the 14th and Sept 27th.

Yeah, but 50% hit around this time last year and 70% didn't hit until after Christmas.

I remember 70% hitting before Christmas, like in early or mid-December. I could go back and look at my receipts I guess (I saved them because they were so so sweet, after combining 70% off with the $10 off two games under $20 coupon. I think I got 17 quality games for about $18).

The best was a couple years ago when they had all GBC games on clearance, man did i clean up on that one, probably bought like 15 games, all complete too. The games were like 2-7$, i got mr driller gbc complete for like, $2.48. The games were for my collection though, not to resell.

I did clean up pretty good on last year's sale though, i bought quite a few games, like onimusha tactics for 10$, hamtaro for 15$ etc, space invaders for 12$.

Yeah that GBC clearance was awesome. I picked up Dragon's Lair,Trouballs and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for $2.48 each and Perfect Dark for $3.78

Am I the only one that is planning their Sunday around hitting as many TRUs as possible? I haven't even checked most of the ones around me, but the thought of a $25 SMT: Nocturne is enough to blow the day on...even if it's a 1-in-a-million longshot ;-)

The intelligent ones already picked Nocturne up at 30% off.

Yeah.. I tried to look for it during the 30% off sale, but I didn't see it. I doubt you will, either, but you never know.

my local TRU had la pucelle marked at 7.48 and then 30% off of that along with eye toy groove, and rallisport challenge and drake (xbox) for 5.48. are any of these games good deals? i am gonna wait till sunday though when it hits 50% off thanks

There are only a couple of titles I'm interested in at the 50% off price, and even then, I won't be too upset if I end up missing out on them. Sure, I'll go by the local TRU Sunday just for kicks, but I'm not expecting to find too many deals in their remaining inventory.

I would snatch up La Pucelle ASAP. $7.48 plus the 30% is an great price. I wouldn't wait for the 50% since it wont be that much of a difference and you might run the risk of someone buying it before Sunday.

la purcella at 30% off $7 is already a great deal. Eye toy groove is too if you like that kind of thing (you need camera if you do not already know this :) )

Fat chance. None of the stores in my area have either of the games in stock.

If you wanted them, picking them up at 30% would have been a smarter idea.

Picked up two of the GC Pro Gamers Bundle today for $6.18. Great deal, was out of stock last week.

I'll go back after 50% hits to get the PS2 and Xbox versions.

Bah... the GC bundles here are marked at $24, those won't be worth it till 70% or so.

Are you sure they are the bundles? The case by itself is marked here around that price, and the GT'ed bundle is only $4.98. In fact, I thought the same thing because I wondered why the case was more than the case and the accessories. If not, sorry for you: it's a fantastic deal. I wouldn't buy the accessories on their own, but (basically) free with the case they are great. I'm using one for my controllers for all systems, and the other for the GC.

The dividers also come out, and a DC, and SNES will fit. Not sure about a N64. I think the Saturn is too big. Oh well, that's what the Xbox case is for.

the GC bundle packs at my store are something like $9.98...so they're like $6.99. 50% will be killer for that. They shipped us a new stock of these as well.
