Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.

I know for a fact my TRU had astro boy, tomb raider, thief, soul calibur 2 and the 2 metroids all in. I might wait on the metrioids...they had ton of each, although 9 each sealed once 70% kicks in, sounds really nice. I must get all 3 of those DS games just because im a big DS fan and Samurai Legends will be a no brainer to me if i see it for 10 or less.
The following is the list of games that will be added to the green tag sale on Sept. 18th. Funny thing is, I've had the list since Friday but was so sure that someone else would be on top of this that I didn't even check to make sure someone had posted it. Hope it helps.

can anyone CONFIRM next tuesday the prices fall to 70% off.... I want to get

feel the magic and Atari for DS 6 bucks each would be a great buy BUT i dont think either are worth 10

Does the 70% off sale go in effect this Tuesday (Sept 20) or the following Tues (Sept 27)? This should be noted on the original post? I dont feel like reading all the previous posts (sorry)

All indications are 9/27.

i bought Musashi + other games that I bought once 50% hit. Im thinking that ill just go return those now, and then pricematch the new copies once 70% hits.
Didn't see the 14 day policy on the receipt though, is that a corporate policy that anyone can confirm?

*edit* just in case someone was looking for the games i bought and wants them instead of me returning them....they are:

R-type final
Ghosthunter
i bought Musashi + other games that I bought once 50% hit. Im thinking that ill just go return those now, and then pricematch the new copies once 70% hits.
Didn't see the 14 day policy on the receipt though, is that a corporate policy that anyone can confirm?
I believe (not totally sure) that the PM is 14 days on R-Zone, but return is 45 days. Has anyone had luck with the newly tagged games ringing up 50% off?

Yea Musashi rang up as 10, Cold Fear was green tagged at 49.99.

Hot damn, I'm ready for next week to roll around so I can get my Chaos Theory and TimeSplitters for $15. It's too bad TRU doesn't follow the rest of the retailers with their pricing though, or these could be even better deals (i.e. FF: CC for $49.99? Hah)
Dead to Rights 2.. ouch.. I would LOVE to see the sales figures for that game.
they sold copies of that game?

Just went to my local TRU by my college.

They had quite a few feel the magics, retro atari ds, musashi samurai legend, call of dutys, etc etc. I think ill grab those at 70% and just hope that both metroids for gba, virtua quest, and thief make it to see much larger cuts. Heck add call of duty to that since they had tons and tons of them.

Thanks for taking the time to post the deals. I picked up Tron 2.0, Feel The Magic, and Retro Atari. The games were not even marked yet!
The following is the list of games that will be added to the green tag sale on Sept. 18th. Funny thing is, I've had the list since Friday but was so sure that someone else would be on top of this that I didn't even check to make sure someone had posted it. Hope it helps.

I picked up Polarium today for 15. If i already opened it and played it, can I still try to get a pm for the 70% off when it hits next tuesday.

Wow are Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and Time Spliters Future perfect really part of the sale?

That sounds too good to be true.

Well, even though it sounds great, now that I think about it, Chaos Theory is already down to $20 at BB ($15 after GGC), so its not even that good until 70%. Future Perfect on the other hand will be damn good in a week.

Why do the only two GC games rock while the plethora of newly discounted Xbox games equate a "meh." Lucky GC bastards. ;)
How much are Splinter Cell/ Future Perfect? (pre-discount)
49.99. So today they should ring up 24.99, next week they'll be 14.99.

WOW - extra games to the list and 70% off on the 27th? o_O

I smell a game road trip coming on. Thank god for 4 TRUs all along the same freeway and only a hour and a half trip to hit all! ^__^ I'm not going home without landing everything on my want list, hell no!

Thanks to everyone for all the info updates!!!

WOOOOOOOOOO!!!

that is IF It hits next tuesday noone has yet to confirm it. I find it werid the 30% and the 50% happened on a Sunday why would 70% happen on a tuesday watch it be NOV 27 (thats a sunday)

It very well could be, especially if they're planning on delaying the 90% until after the holidays. We need an employee confirmation sometime this week before the anticipated drop-date. They should know the date by Friday if it's dropping on 9/27.

Maybe it's September 27th 2009...that's a Sunday!
I kind of hope that the sale doesn't start next Tuesday. I have class that morning. I would much rather it be on a Sunday.
'

Why not ask corporate TRU to switch it for you, then? :)

Come on - do the right thing and skip school! We're all playing hooky on Tuesday morning!

Don't forget that if you buy something now, since things change on the 27th (I think it's the 27th), you can go back and get the additional 20% off what you bought, being less than 14 days from now.

I couldn't find this anywhere on the receipt (14 day thing), are you just talking about returning the items and buying them back (which semi-kinda sucks) or just bringing in the receipts and having them adjust the price?

I will quote this on 9/27/09 in the "Toys R Us X% off Thread 2k9" if this forum is still around...then I will stand back and look at 4 years anticipation and cry.

ok...so i won't...shaddap!
Didn't the 90 of the last one happen on a Tuesday? (or some random week day).
It happened on a Wed. I took a 3 hour lunch break that day.
It happened on a Wed. I took a 3 hour lunch break that day.
It was because I ran to the store and stocked up that night. Then I got paid on the following day and bought anything I missed out.

This happens so soon after I take my road test- this will be the first time I go to a sale alone!

Hahah...these sales can be quite a temptation for speeding. Some of the fastest driving I've ever done in my car was the first evening the news broke of the $5 Circuit City sale in the Summer of 2004. I was speeding around all over town that Saturday hitting as many stores as I could before closing and going apeshit buying stuff. :D
I'm so glad, I'm not in school.
Yes, I didn't have any money in school (even with part-time jobs), so I'm more than happy to now have some spare cash to spend as I please. :D

I didn't see this posted, but Call of Duty: Finest Hour for PS2 is green tagged at $19.95 which comes up to $9.95 after 50% off, plus there is an additional $5.00 off select Activision games bringing it down to $4.95. Just thought someone might want this in case they don't want to wait and see if there's any let at 70% off next week. (Unless the 70% isn't until 2009.) ;-) Supposedly the $5 is on other games, but this is the only clearance game. And if my math is correct, this is cheaper than the 70% off straight up.

With that unnecessary comma sitting in the middle of such a short sentence, maybe it wouldn't hurt if you took a few more classes. :booty:

If that $5 off deal is still around when 70% off hits, then that should mean it would be $1 next week. That would be awesome if it works.
