Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.
I didn't see this posted, but Call of Duty: Finest Hour for PS2 is green tagged at $19.95 which comes up to $9.95 after 50% off, plus there is an additional $5.00 off select Activision games bringing it down to $4.95. Just thought someone might want this in case they don't want to wait and see if there's any let at 70% off next week. (Unless the 70% isn't until 2009.) ;-) Supposedly the $5 is on other games, but this is the only clearance game. And if my math is correct, this is cheaper than the 70% off straight up.
So.. where exactly does this $5 Activision deal exist?

So.. where exactly does this $5 Activision deal exist?

The $5 deal is an unadvertised deal on various Activision games - Madagascar, Spiderman 2, Call of Duty, Fantastic 4,etc. The deal ends 10/1. Most stores threw out their endcaps for it as it was meant to start 7/1, but instead started in August, so most stores will not have any advertisements for it.
So it's an automatic discount at the register, right?
Yes, it works the same way as the green-tag titles, the discount comes up after the cashier hits "total."

Oh crap, if this is true, ill be picking up a bunch of Call of Dutys because my TRU had rows and rows of them. Get one for everyone i know with xbox live(so they can play with me :p) and grab like 2 for trade in deals, thats if Call of Duty isnt on the exclusion list yet.

I think you can add Tony Hawk's Underground 2 to the $5 off Activision list. I bought it a couple of weeks ago for $15. The cashier had no idea why it took $5 off.

Are there any games other than Call of Duty that would be that cheap with the two deals combined?

By your discounts combined, I am Captain CheapAss! :D

I just picked up Demon Stone for Xbox for $15 (50%) off. Here's hoping the games will be 70% on Tuesday for a PM. The store clerk I spoke with, when I asked him if there was another increase in the Green Tag sale coming up, said he didn't know when it was going to be but guess for sure it would be by November.
i just picked up a Call of Duty myself for $5. Ill be sure to pricematch it when 70% off hits for $1 total.
Weird... is it just priced wrong at my TRU? Says its 24.95, which would take it down to $12.50 after 50%, and then $7.50 after discount. Is it actually $19.95?

Is PSO1&2 Plus good for $9 once 70% hits? Considering I won't be paying for online, single player would need to be fairly good.

There were like 5 more copies, all marked at 19.95
Oh crap, if this is true, ill be picking up a bunch of Call of Dutys because my TRU had rows and rows of them. Get one for everyone i know with xbox live(so they can play with me :p) and grab like 2 for trade in deals, thats if Call of Duty isnt on the exclusion list yet.
Isn't Call of Duty green tagged only for the PS2? Anyone confirm the Xbox one?
only ps2.
Actually, after helping me with my PS2 copy of Call of Duty, the cashier tried ringing up the Xbox version and it came out as $5 too so you might want to ask your cashier to check the price for you.

Hmm.. does that mean we need to check the GC version too?

And has anyone else's TRU started to try to hide the sale or something? Almost all of the big green hanging tags are gone (either gone completely or replaced with the normal red ones), and a lot of the games don't even have the green stickers anymore (including all of the newly added ones).

Edit #2: By the way... all three versions of Finest Hour have PriceGrabber rebates. So at least the PS2 and XB versions will be free. And we'll have to check on the GC.

Isn't it better if the new items aren't tagged though? That way, we all know what's on sale but everyone else doesn't so there is a better chance of it being there at 70% or 90% off

aww....lllll right! woot, looks like the Live plans are still in action.

Ha, well, I wasn't necessarily arguing against it, it just seems odd to unadvertise your huge yearly sale.

It seems like they always miss some games (when it hit 90% off last time, I still found stuff not tagged). I agree that from their standpoint it's better for everything to be tagged.

With that said, I think I'll be heading back to price check the XB and GC versions of CoD: FH just to be sure. Wouldn't mind just getting a November preorder out of the way, assuming those also trade in for $8.

Sorry for the noobism, but there isnt a TRU anywhere close (15miles).

Is there constantly a green tag sale, is COD the only game, or YMMV on what they have in stock.
So is the call of duty for XBOX also in the deal or not?
Activision is running a special till OCT 1st, which is $5 off a select few of their games which includes COD:Finest Hour on PS2,Xbox, GC. BUT ONLY the PS2 version is Greentaged so its like 7.50 total, while the Xbox version is just 5 off, which makes it 14.99 :), I know this because i work their :)

Actually the PS2 version is $5. My store had it tagged at $25 (which would take it down to $7.50) but it rang up at $20.

Checking out the OP is your best bet for information. This is the first Green Tag sale I've been through, so I can't give specifics, but this one is running basically the second half of the year. And all the titles that are tagged are in the first post, or in the additional list on page... 54 (if you are viewing 20 per page)

Hey Zon27, I never doubted what you said. All I did was reporting what I saw after making my PS2 CoD purchase (I don't have an Xbox) so if you were offended or ticked off by what I wrote then sorry man. :)

I was wonderng if anyone had compiled a list of games are are green-tagged that aren't on the EB pox list? If so, where might I find such a wonder? Thx.

picked up Call of Duty(PS2) for $5, will end up being free after the Pricegrabber rebate. The Xbox and Gamecube versions were definitely a no-go though, I even bought the Xbox version(already returned it) and it totalled to $14.9X.

I picked up COD for $5.00, thanks for the tip. And my wife didn't even mind, BONUS!!! So they do price adjust at TRU's on clearence items?

Everything should be on the first post it was updated
Any confirmation about the 27th yet.
Highly doubt it. There was a directors meeting a few days ago and what I heard is they put off the 70% off for awhile, it's based on how things are selling overall in the green tag sale (including stuff other than video games).

So it's unclear when the prices will drop again afaik.

Ah well, so much for getting cheaper prices on past purchases. Makes my life less complicated though. Just means I'll be waiting longer on some things like PSO1&2+, Future Perfect, and FF: CC.

Bah... That sucks... Well, I'll still treat this as rumor for now and hope that the 70% goes as planned :D.
The following is the list of games that will be added to the green tag sale on Sept. 18th. Funny thing is, I've had the list since Friday but was so sure that someone else would be on top of this that I didn't even check to make sure someone had posted it. Hope it helps.

Just bumping the list, since it's not added into the OP.

I would snag Xenosaga possibly if I could find it, but I'm not going to burn through the gas looking for it (since it's not too great a deal at $10).

XenoSaga is actually $20 after discount.

What...? You mean the greatest hits one that is $20 MSRP at every other store, and has been for the last two or so years?
XenoSaga !2! is $20 after discount. Silly billy. :D
So it's part 2? I only saw Botticus's quote of what page the list is on, and I just quoted that... that is only listing it as "Xenosaga", which is why I assumed it was the first one =/

Xenosaga 2 for $20 is even more of a non deal, since Best Buy has the same price, and it's not worth going out on my day off just to get Musashi... bah.

To attempt to clear it up, it should be Xenosaga that was newly Green Tagged, and I believe aoLat was thinking of Xenosaga 2 when he responded to you.

At my TRU Xenosaga 2 was green-tagged at $39.95. I guess it could be YMMV, but I think it's nation-wide. :D
