Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.

**** = EXTREME YMMV - only offered online, only way you'll find it in a store is if someone returned it from online.

Wait a second... $39.99 x .7 = $27.99. I can get XenoSaga 2 for $12 sealed! :D I think I'm gonna buy that. I need a new RPG to play, all I've got right now is Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, but I also want Radiata Stories... hmmm...

Well, hold off on that .7 for now - did you see Zon27's post? Right now, anyway, and possibly for a while, Xenosaga II is $20 at TRU...

:'( I really hope the 70% starts this Tuesday.. I've even "guaranteed" myself a copy of XenoSaga 2... ;)

I'm pretty sure that the 70% isn't starting on the 27th...one of the upcoming ad's still has the green tag sale listed at 50%. :( Hopefully they're just putting it off by a couple weeks. On the brighter side, I picked up PS2 Call of Duty for $1.06 after using my $3.00 phone survey coupon and a $1.00 birthday club coupon.
Well, if it's not, that shouldn't be a problem since you could always return the game, unopened, for up to a month, right?
45 days

hmmm, my first 50% purchases 45 days comes up sept 30th....i might have to do some returning to buy back later(alot of the games I bought still have stock there)

The activision promotion (5.00 off) ends 10/1/05.
If I got call of duty now and returned it 42 days later, then bought it back, would I still get it for 1.00 even if the promo expired by then?
hmmm, my first 50% purchases 45 days comes up sept 30th....i might have to do some returning to buy back later(alot of the games I bought still have stock there)
Yeah, that's the problem - I have a few games I bought right at the beginning of 50% and they are NOT in stock any more. D'oh!

Also, aoLat, just to back you up - they do have Xenosaga II green-tagged at my TRU as well (but at $39.99). So, like Roufuss says, unless 70% hits that is NOT such a good deal :D. This was one of the games I got for $5 from Gamerush with the trade 3 deal so even 70% off $40 doesn't sound good to me on that one :D.

Darn, that's too bad about the 70% off. I was looking forward to Tuesday for weeks. I still hope it happens but I might just buy some of the newer added stuff like Sega Superstars if 70% off won't be for a while.

Hey, XenoSaga 2 sealed and new for $12 is fiiiine by me. :D Let's see I got $130 for my birthday. So far I've spent it on Persona 2: EP - $26.99 (with GS card), a year subscription to GI for $14.99, and I'm planning on getting Lockdown for PS2 tomorrow at Best Buy for $24.99 (after coupon), and then I'm gonna buy some cheap games and trade them at GR for a preorder on Battlefield 2: Modern Combat (PS2). I feel sad that I can't get Lockdown or BF2 on Xbox, because my brother took it up to school with him, so I hope these online games are as smooth on the PS2 as they are on the Xbox. I will miss PEC mode on Lockdown (XB) though... :'( I've still got quite a bit of money left after all that is said and done, and then I'll wait for Radiata Stories (PS2) to drop in price, and Battalion Wars (GC) to drop in price. I love my birthday! :D
The activision promotion (5.00 off) ends 10/1/05.
If I got call of duty now and returned it 42 days later, then bought it back, would I still get it for 1.00 even if the promo expired by then?
Nope :(

I went and scouted ahead in preparation for Tuesday's 70% off, and was greatly disappointed:

XB:
Blowout $19.99
Deus EX 2 $19.95
Driver 3 $19.99
Metal Slug 3
Sudeki $19.95

That's pretty much it. They also had Backyard Wrestling 2 greentagged. What a waste. They had like 40 copies of Driv3r, so hopefully I can grab one or two when they hit 70%.

In the last couple of pages, they're (TRU Employees) are saying it's highly unlikely that Tuesday will be 70% off.

That sucks. No way i'm picking up Driv3r for $9.99.
45 days
but Price adjustments can only be done for 14 days and at least the store here will not allow you to return the game and rebuy it right then. They take the game away and you got to hope you find it when they put it back on the shelf

Either way is fine. There are several copies of Demon Stone at my local TRU. Actually, $15 isn't that bad a price, but us CAGers like to save. I do have about $80 in free Geoffrey dollars I need to spend - though I should probably spend some on the :baby: baby. I might return it and buy another copy with some Geoffrey dollars. Too bad TRU doesn't price match anymore. I'd love to get Mercenaries for $20 at TRU and spend only Geoffrey bucks on it. Oh well...

Could someone sum everything up so we don't have to read through 61 pages of posts (since the OP clearly lacks all the details that you all are aluding to)? Thanks.

More Green Tagged items were added to the list. The list is quoted a page or two back. This coming Tuesday, the 27th, the clearance items may go from 50% off to 70% off. It's looking unlikely right now. If it were to happen, you could go and buy the games now and get the prices adjusted if the sale did go to 70%. All Activision titles at TRU are $5 off because of a promotion they are having. Call of Duty: Finest Hour is Green Tagged at $19.99, so people are getting it for $4.99.

Today I picked up Call of Duty and DBZ: Sagas.

Oh darn. I was looking foward to seeing what they had left. After picking up Gallop Racer 2004 for 50% off, I haven't gotten anything. Oh well, I'm in no rush.

I can confirm the 70% has been pushed back due to the sell-thru of product currently in inventory. There will be more games added every other week or so. One little tidbit, Guilty Gear Isuka (sp) will be dropping from 49.95 to 29.95 on Thursday and it is green-tagged. Also Batman Begins (all platforms) will also drop to 29.95 on Thursday. I have copies of the next three ads and GT does not change from 50% in any of them. There are some decent deals though. Buy 2 get 1 free video game sale is next week! Unfortunately it is only games 19.99 and under....

well, if it's B2G1F for games $19.99 and under it's almost like getting 70% off, assuming you can combine it with green tag(?).

NDS Retro Atari
NDS Feel the Magic
PS2 Viewtiful Joe
----------------
$6.00 each w/ Green Tag 70% off

VS.

$6.66 each w/ B2G1F

VS.

$10 w/ Green Tag 50% off

so it's not all bad news.

Also, it'll be interesting to see what new games are added to the list. I'm looking forward to that since it's more likely that you can still find those around.

Sucks to hear the green tag is staying at 50% for awhile. They probably will be adding quite a few to the list before its said and done. You have to figure they are clearing more room for the PSP/DS/XBOX 360.

I can see it now the Nintendogs Aisle for christmas...

I thought the Buy 2 Get 1 free was only on GC PC titles? Now you say it applies to all games under $20? And it applies to green-tagged items as well? Does this start tomorrow or when? I never get TRU ads in my Sunday paper any more. If it starts tomorrow then I'm re-buying all the stuff I got in the last week...

Rereading your message, I'm not at all clear when you say it starts. What does "next week" mean (to me that means Monday, Sept. 26th, but that's just my definition of "next week" :D)? I hope you don't mean the week after next, i.e. Oct. 3rd, 'cause I'm out of town then...

I have the ad starting 9/25 the upcoming b2g1f is just on a few select gamecube games. Basically about 10 titles part of the Gamecubes version of greatest hits...

The yearly b2g1f event usually is towards the end of OCT...

The buy 2 get 1 free on all PS2, XBox, and Gamecube titles you so covet is the week of October 23rd. You know, the week Resident Evil 4 is out for the PS2. And Soul Calibur 3. and SSX 4....

If any of those other tru employee types don't believe me on this, check out the store homepage. It's under the advertising schedule.

FYI, I believe this year, much like last, green tag games are exempt from this sale.
Thanks, Trakan!
No prob. And thanks to akuma for telling us that the B2G1 is at the end of October.

Funny, I remember the Buy 2 Get 1 free sale last year, and I certainly remember the green-tag sale last year. But I sure don't remember them happening at the same time (so that they had to exempt green-tagged games from the B2G1). But it makes sense.

So, basically, we can't count on 70% any time soon, AND the Buy 2 Get 1 free, which doesn't happen until the end of October anyway, won't apply to green-tagged games. The only hope is for NEW items to go on green-tag over the next few weeks that we would want to buy at 50%. I'm spoiled by $5 games so I can't imagine there will be much to get unless there's something they tag at $10.

I did find a Sega Superstars today at a TRU (Salem, OR), that had just about no green-tagged games a few weeks ago. They have PILES of Call of Duty as well - at least 30. I am going to return and repurchase a few games (like Broken Sword) at the same price to "freshen" my receipts on them - just in case 70% does come within the next 45 days, at least. And I guess I'll pick up an Atari Retro and Polarium (neither of which I want at 50% but would want at 70%), and keep those sealed until the next drop as well...

The only constant around all the TRU's I've been too recently is that just about all the $10 games (thus $5 after discount) are all about gone... All the green-tag stuff now (with the exception of Call of Duty) ranges from $10 to $25.

I broke down and went to my local TRU to see what they had...and came away happy. I was able to land Musashi, Bubble Bobble (GBA), Metal Slug 3, and quite a few Call of Duties (copies for all my TRU-challenged friends). The only other game I really wanted was Fire Embelm, but oh well. At least I know my TRU has a ton of decent 70% off games when ever that day comes.

Oh, when I checked out, the employees were like, "those games are on sale - they weren't on our updated list!" And of course I laughed. ^___^

Much love to all the continued updating. Oct. 23rd cannot come faster!

Damn it's a letdown that the 70% won't go through for who knows how long and that the green tag sale won't apply to the B1G1 deal either. Here's hoping that they add more 50% games soon though...

Green Tag and B2G1 DID happen at the same time last year. I remeber i got Unreal Championship, Metal Gear Solid 2 Subtance and Namco Mueseum like this. I also got Rayman Hoodlum Havoc, Terminator and Rocky this way. I didnt even have an xbox at the time, i gave half of those away as christmas presents.

So i remember very clearly that this did work, i bought at least 4 sets in the buy2get1 and 2 of those sets were Green Tagged games for sure.

Also i remember people having stories about doing the Buy2get1, with 2 higher priced Green Tagged items and a regular priced game, the regular game came out free because the green tag doesnt come up until after total(i cant verify this myself but its what i remeber reading)

Also, Call of Duty for xbox rang up for 15 for me as well :whistle2:(

Ok I saw something very odd at my TRU, they had a double pack of cold fear, marked as green tag for 50%, so two copies of cold fear for 25 bucks...wonder if I can turn that into a profit. Also Call of Duty rang up as 5 bucks for me, anyone know if it gets some more for trade in.

Basically what do cold fear and call of duty get at ebgames and do you think my TRU is now doing 75% off due to call of duty.

CoD: FH gets $8 at GR, and I think $11 or $12 at EB after the Trade 5 Get $5 more for each game deal. Technically it gets $18 at GR if you use the Trade 2 preorder a game for $29.99 deal, which I'm going to do later today or tomorrow. :D
Have them ring it up. It could be employees not tagging it out of laziness..
Very little is actually labelled with a green tag at my store anymore. Even non-video game stuff.
