So I picked up a Turbografx 16 and some games, but unfortunately the system doesn't have the hookups. Got a controller, but need a power supply and RF cable or even component cables if there is one for the base system.

Does anyone happen to know which older console AC adapter(s) I can use on it without frying the system? I've heard Sega CD, Sega Genesis, and NES AC adapters work, but I really don't want to nuke the thing. I believe I can use just about any old RF adapter on the thing, but the AC adapter is the tricky thing.

I'm going to try to track down the specs on the system online, but just wondering if anyone here knew offhand or has had a similar experience.

I used to have not only the system and the Turbo CD, both of which I foolishly sold, but also I still had kept the original manuals for the systems until I sold them on here a year or so ago. Doh, guess I should have kept them.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any info!

The Genesis model 1 power cord (I think it is model 1601) will work fine. I got my TG-16 in trade a long time ago and the power cord was mangled in shipping. I have been using the Genesis one for a few years now and have not had any problems.

I've used my Sega CD adapter succesfully on the TurboGrafx-16 when I couldn't find the original adapter.

I do understand the concerns of plugging a different adaptor to a system, especially since they always warn you in the documentation in big red letters how not to dare plug in a different ac adapter.

I myself will sometimes prefer not to plug in a different AC adapter to a rare system even if it matches the specification exactly for the same reason of not wanting to risk damage to the circuitry.

All I can say, is that either take a chance and plug in your Sega CD adaptor (should work fine but please don't sue me if your TurboGrafx explodes  ) or go to Ebay and buy there I see the AC adapter and RF switch for 15 bucks.

Yeah, I'd order the adaptor. My friend's fried multiple Genesises... Genesi? and a Sega CD or two by using the wrong adaptors. It's a pain finding and ordering the adaptors, but I definitely recommend it over the risk of frying a system.
What about the RF cables or AV cables? Will another systems cables work?
They're worth a try if they fit. I don't see how they could damage the system as they're not drawing much power. Plus, a lot of those cables were re-used. Heck, the SNES AV cable works on the 64 and I think the Gamecube (never owned a GC but I believe my friend said his bro's worked.)

Yeah that's true about the SNES's cables they worked for the N64 and GCN too. I saw on gamefaws I believe that NES RF adapters can work along with the power supply. I wanted to know since I bought one on ebay yesterday for $35 including shipping but the only downside was no cables. Boo.
