Two Worlds - Free to play MMORPG

Two Worlds isn't really a MMO, it has 8 player co-op. From what I heard it will have MMO style cities where you can meet up with a party, but when you go on a mission your party is in a seperate zone that no one else can access.

I'm really looking forward to Two Worlds. I hope it's as good or nearly as good as Oblivion, and I'm looking forward to the online multiplayer.

So basically its Guild Wars/PSO then.

I'll sign up just to see how it compares to Oblivion.

My friend is pretty much forcing me to get this game. He claims it's going to be like Oblivion, but multiplayer. So I'll be picking it up.

I want a good mmo that isn't like the ones out now...hopefully this will deliver. Comes out the same day as NGS, so I'll definitely wait for reviews.

^ According to the Two Worlds site a German magazine called 360 Live gave it a 9.3 and said "A fantastic RP experience, full of life and ideas... who would ever have thought that Oblivion could be dethroned so fast? This "Two Worlds" is indeed a worthy successor!!"
I'll wait for more revews, but I hope other reviews are similar. I really want a good Oblivion style RPG to play this summer.

Hmmm. I've only noticed this on Gameznflix. Cover art looks alright  Don't know anything else about it, though.

This sounds interesting. I can't play any game enough to make the monthly fees (on top of Live) worth it. I'm hard pressed to believe that it will dethrone Oblivion (I put over 85 hours into Oblivion so far), but if it can give it a run, could be interesting. I'll keep my eye on this.

I hope the single player aspect of the game is well done. Too often games like this focus on the multiplayer and have shit for a single player campaign. On RPG's, I would prefer games to be either one way or the other, online only or single player only. Combinations never seem to work out well in this genre.

Sounds interesting. If this comes out with anywhere close to the reviews for Oblivion maybe I'll get this ASAP and hold off on Oblivion for a price drop/Game of the Year Edition.

This game isn't an MMORPG.

At all.

I've been reading up on people who have been playing the beta and so far, with all the latest patches, it sounds fucking fantastic.

It's a single player game with a much wider scope than Oblivion, that has a multiplayer element where a few people play in one world, but I don't know anyone who has tried out the multi, I believe the beta is SP only. But no, it's not an MMORPG, it's not like Guild Wars, the closest thing I can compare it to multiplayer wise is Diablo 2 or something similar.

The focus is mainly on the single player game and making an Oblivion killer.

IGN has a list of the achievements. The list looks pretty good, but defeated the Grand Enemy is worth 370 points, while almost everything else is 5-20 points. That just seems kind of lazy.

Maybe he's just that powerful XD

I hope his name in the game isn't "Grand Enemy". Now that would be lazy :D

Gamespot has more CE details now: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6173505.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;2

SouthPeak Games' fantasy role playing-game Two Worlds will be getting two collector's editions. Both will feature holographic packaging, a 72-page color fantasy pen-and-paper RPG book, and a second gameplay disc which will include bonus music and video content, along with other goodies such as a Web kit that helps players create fan sites.

The PC collector's edition will include exclusive unlockable in-game items, whereas the Xbox 360 version will include a 48-hour Xbox Live Gold trial card.

The US pricing of the two collector's editions is $69.99 for the Xbox 360 version and $59.99 for the PC version. UK pricing looks set to be £39.99 for the PC version and £49.99 for the Xbox 360. Both will be on sale from August 7 in the US, according to the press release, and are still slated for a July 20 release in the UK on retailers' Web sites, although this is not yet confirmed.

Unless I'm misreading that, the 360 CE is worthless by comparison.

Do NOT buy this game.

I could hardly sit through the intro. I didn't even play the game for a minute and I knew it was going to be garbage.

Firstly, they tried to copy Oblivion's diverse character creator, except they give you 5 hairstyles and one face to work with. The default face looks like a neolithic mongoloid and changing any of the sliders does little but make it worse. Sure, Oblivion had some eerie looking faces, but this game makes them downright frightening. Even beyond just being conventionally disturbing looking, the actual tech behind it is primitive. Moving features of the face actually makes sharp angled bends in the modle of the face and some textures even seem to pop off and just stick strait out into space.

After making your version of FrankenKhan, a low res, lackluster intro sequence kicks in setting up the lame plot. This is a prerendered intro, mind you, and its still full of jaggies, blurry textures and all around eggplant-headed dull voiced models.

Voice acting is so bad it sounds as if they tried to sound bad. "I. willgonow. forIhav. en't. the timetolose."

After the horrible intro, you get into a tutorial/intro level. The game uses WASD to move, but not in typical WASD fashion. Instead of A and D sidestepping, they actually make you run to the left or right. S makes you run towards the camera. F is used to pull out your weapon, kinda... If you're running while you hit F, nothing happens. However, when you stop running, your sword appears in your hand. Could be as simple as a missing animation, but really doesn't help an already ailing first impression. Running and putting your sword away makes you slow to a walk as you flurrish your sword and then put it away.

Combat consisted of getting close enough to rapidly click the bad guy to death.

I didn't give the game much time, but from what I saw, it seems neither did the devs.

If you think the lackluster graphics have to do with my PC or game setup, the game automatically detected optimum settings to be maximum across the board and I was playing at 1600x1050.

If you're a graphics whore, avoid this game. If you like good voice acting/characters, avoid this game. If you like deep involving combat, avoid this game. If you like controlling Mongo, the cave dwelling hitman on a quest across a jaggie landscape encountering one dimensional characters, embrace this game.

I've felt the same way about every 360 version as I have its PC counterpart... We'll... except that the big points I mentioned, (Controls, visuals and performance) we're infinitely better on the PC.
Last i checked this was the Xbox 360 section...so impressions based on the PC version are going to be mixed.
Since the 360 version isn't coming out until August it's possible that a lot of the issues with the PC version are going to be fixed.

Their programmers, not magicians. This isn't a "fix in a month" issue. For this game to not be horrible, they'd have to redo the entire facial mapping system, rerecord all the voice acting and rerender all the cutscenes.

yep, this sums up everything wrong with console gaming pricing structures. the PC version-- tons of extra shit, 360 version-- a 2 day trial card to bait you into something that costs $50 a year....yet somehow, for no reason, the 360 version costs more. awesome.

If im not mistaken...the pc version comes out the same day as the 360 version(8/14 according to ebgames).

So, how is it that you played it already? Beta?

If its the beta then you cant except to go in playing the same version that retail will get.

Never played an MMorpg before, so I may consider this.

EDIT from reading other posts it seems it's not an MMO, but more of a PSO...which is fine by me.

The European version is multilingual.

Just threw down my pre-order today after watching the trailer. Looks like it could be a lot of fun.

A few extra months can't hurt anything. I'm glad we're getting a polished version on the 360.
2 Worlds doesn't have to be perfect. If it gets in the 7.5-8.0 range in US reviews I plan on picking it up. I'm getting tired of waiting for more Oblivion style games.

After being so disappointed by Blue Dragon, Two Worlds is now carrying all of my hopes and dreams. Would love to dive in with a party of CAGs. Towards that end, anybody gonna start a separate sign-up thread once this one launches?

I was about to put my preorder on this but wanted a firm release date...

There doesnt seem to be much of a consensus from most sites but looks like the 8/14 that i mentioned before is the latest date.

Found this on the official two worlds site:
Two Worlds Receives Extra Polish!

+++ Update 1.4 incorporates feedback and requests from players +++

After paying close attention to dedicated fans, the Two Worlds development team at Reality Pump have been hard at work preparing the official 1.4 update for Topware's epic free-roaming RPG. A huge number of suggestions, proposals and requests from Two World's steadily-growing fanbase have been incorporated into the 1.4 file, which marks a significant update from smaller updates released soon after the game's European mainland release. Coming in at 298 MB for users updating from the 1.0 retail version (1.3 > 1.4: 176 MB), the 1.4 update brings a considerable improvement in both gameplay and technical terms and is not to be missed by anyone who's been lured into Two Worlds' rich and incredibly detailed universe. The 1.4 update will also be included in the US and UK retail versions, which SouthPeak Games will be releasing in late summer 2007. The 1.4 update can be downloaded from the support area.

Looks like the game has recieved 4 updates since release in Europe, this latest one being almost 300 MB. Since all these updates will be included in the US retail version we are assured a better version than the European one some have tried.

edit: reading back looks like this is the patch that rofuss was talkin about in mid june(patch came out june 12thish). Also as another person said, the delay has helped polish the game for us, id much rather get the best version out the box and not have to waste download space when it could have come on the disc.

The "story"

The world changed when Aziraal, the god of war, was slain in the huge battle long ago. The hordes of Orcs lost their divine leader and were forced to withdraw to the southern wastelands. Now, thousands of years later, the location of Aziraal's tomb is still unknown, well hidden by other gods who did not dare to entrust the secret to mere mortals. However, now, a fragile peace between the civilized races and the hordes is at stake. When the dwarven mining expedition discovered an ancient temple dedicated to an unnamed deity, a silent war begun, and it will soon ignite the fires that will lead to the holy crusade of the Orcs. However, the real danger lies somewhere else. A powerful force churns silently - weaving a secret plot of fear and destruction. In the end one of the Two Worlds will remain.

................................................................................................................................
Two worlds is an RPG, with a cool twist. 8 player online co-op or single player. Not like WoW with way too many people, but not like oblivion, where you fell alone when your plaing, its almost perfect. You can be good or evil, 40 hrs of main quest, 200 hrs of side quests, ect. 185 miles of land to run around and great graphics.

I don't know much more so, if you do, fell free to correct me.
