UGH!! I cant get gold at the first Burning Lap section on Burnout Revenge

Xevious

CAGiversary!
I think I tried 15 times already. To get the gold, you have to get a time of 1:35 or less. The closest I've gotten it is 1:37.

I'm refering to the Burning lap section at Sunshine Keys. Actually all the Burning Laps seem hard to win a Gold Medal.

Are you hitting all the right shortcuts? Without going through any shortcuts it's almost impossible to beat most burning laps/preview laps.

True, though in some instances, it's best to avoid shortcuts in order to get an Awesome ranking.

That burning lap, you'll have to pretty much hold down the boost as much as possible which means trying to earn boost by staying in the oncoming lane. Cut over to the left and stay there until you get to the bridge then take the shortcut in the middle. When you get to the construction area, I don't suggest taking the shortcuts as it'll take away a good chance to get boost by drifting. You'll need it going through that little section that's a straightaway leading into another long section that has oncoming. Just stay in the oncoming as much as possible boosting then you'll get into the freeway area and you should be able to stay in the correct lane boosting and you'll get under the time by a second or two.

It took me about 20 tries but finally did it using this same strategy...

I did get agold after about 20 tries. On the 13th time, my time was 1:35:03. I lost by 3 100ths of a second.

So you said I should avoid certain shortcuts?

Here are the list of shortcuts that I took previously:
1. Immediately after the burning lap starts, I pull to the left and go through this gated area. You really cant boost there but I thought it would shave off some seconds.
2. There is a shortcut in the middle of the bridge as mentioned in your previous post. I always thought it was faster to go to the left and into the oncoming traffic.
3. There is another shortcut to the right after the bridge. There is a chain linked fence that you have to smash through; You can hit some park cars if you like. This leads directly to #4
4. The construction area...which leads directly to:
5. A white gated fence underneath a building. (Its on the right side of the road)
6. After a couple of turns, there is a section where the road forks (Its after an area of boats).
7. If you take the road on the right (after the first fork); There is another fork after that.

I'm trying different variations right now but so far I'm still kinda stuck.

Agreed. The name of the game in burning lap is boost and taking the shortcuts eliminate any boost. Stay in the oncoming traffic lanes, keep your boost on, and keep your reflexes sharp.

Yea I couldnt get gold either....I held down boost for the entire lap but still miss the 1:35 mark by a hair

Xevious, all your shortcuts are fine except the first. That one seems actually slower to me. I just get in the left lane for an oncoming boost and then switch to the right to hit traffic.

Let's see...I was able to hold down boost for pretty much the whole race after getting the initial boost at the start and getting boost for oncoming.

Immediately move to the left oncoming lanes at the start, skipping the shortcut (for the most part, trade off an opportunity to take shortcuts for getting boost, especially starting off the race). You'll be able to boost since there's not much oncoming on the relative straight before the big left-hander going onto the bridge. You can opt take the shortcut between the bridge (I take it to get some points for Air and avoid other cars), but you can also go incoming on the bridge to gain more boost, but definetely try not to do traffic checks on the right. Depending on how much boost you've gained and how well you control drifting under boost, take shortcut leading to the construction and through the construction. That should be the last shortcut you take. Rest of the way I was able to get oncoming. I think the fork you're talking about comes after one right turn after coming out of the construction area right? Where there's a grassy area? I'd go straight through the grass to get onto oncoming as fast as possible.

This one's possibly the closest Burning Lap I've done through 7 perfect levels. Though you get to revisit the same one later on, only in reverse and with even more traffic.

Drive on the wrong side of the road (You'll never run out of boost) and trying hitting all the shortcuts...it can be done without them but it just makes it harder.

Has anyone been able to get an awesome rating on the second burning lap? (The 55 second part is easy... it's getting that damn meter to fill up!!!) My roommate and I have tried no less than 50 times.

Is that the one with the EA Racer in Japan? You'll have to boost the whole time all the while drifting at every opportunity. You can actually just do swerves even on the straights to get your ranking up, going full-speed of course. But you do have to boost into a turn, swerve, straighten out in oncoming, and then swerve again, if that makes any sense.

Yep, that's the one! I'll have to try again tomorrow... but for now, I'm off to bed. Thanks for the tips Steve.
