Ultimate Matrix Collection

CAGiversary!
Anyone getting this? I own all the movies individually already so I don't know if its worth spending another 60 bucks to get the same movies (with a little better picture) and a few bonus discs. I hope frys will sell this for cheap like they did with the Star Wars Trilogy on the 1st day.
Stanley Kubrick was a god among filmmakers. 2001, Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, The Shining...some of the greatest movies ever made.
I totally agree. Curious, if you had to narrow it down to one Kubrick film to be your personal favorite which one would you pick?

Myself I would pick - and I know I'm going to get flack for this - but my pick is "Barry Lyndon." I've only watched it a few times but to me its the styling and pace of the film that really won me over. Yes its slow at times but to me it helped me understand the Barry character and become sympathetic in his quest.

Hahaha, so basically when a movie comes with a confusing plot and badly written dialogue and people aren't able to understand it, than it's the people who are at fault and not the film? Cool, i'm gonna send you a movie of my paint drying as I read through the dictionary in several different languages. It must be your lucky day too since I've decided to remove the bottom third of the picture at random intervals to give you even more to think about. Enjoy :D

The more I think about it the more pissed I get - why did they have to kill the franchise with 2 crappy sequels?
2 sides to this argument:

A) The ignorant mass who disliked the movies for there inclusion of "big words" and "plot", also the plot wasn't completly spelled out for us, forcing us to think.

B) The small percentage of us who "got" the movies, and enjoyed them. We discovered something that will take others decades to get, IE the Star Wars Trilogy, Scarface, etc, etc.

Congradulations, you're a proud member of group A, here's your prize: :dunce:
Irrelevant ad hominem argument.

I would go with Dr. Strangeglove as my favorite. "You can't fight in here, this is the war room!"

I haven't seen Barry Lyndon myself. I'll have to try to find that one. I wonder if Best Buy would have it? Probably the only Kubrick film I've seen that I don't feel is excellent is Eyes Wide Shut. Sure it has some hot women, but the story didn't really grab me. Maybe I should watch it again and give it another chance ;)

The first Kubrick film I saw was 2001, I had to write a paper on its significance in a HS western civ/philosophy course. My absolute favorite is Clockwork Orange, but that was also one of my favorite books. I never managed to get my hands on Barry Lyndon or Lolita, and I can't find either for sale outside of the ridiculously overpriced Kubrick box set. A lot of people I know love Dr. Strangelove, but I didn't think it was that good. It wasn't bad, but didn't grip me like the others did.
Sleeves? As in...cardboard or paper sleeves? Please clarify.
The sleeves resemble the original cardboard DVD cases, except there is no plastic strip along the side to keep it closed. Each sleeve is basically a folded piece of cardboard with a clear plastic tray, found in most digi-pack packaging, that holds 1, 2, or 3 DVDs.

If you have the first two Harry Potter digi-packs, take one out of the slip cover, open it up and visualize it being just the left half. That's basically what the majority of the discs look like.

I don't understand why there is this contingent of elitists who claim to "understand" the movie and the only reason you don't like them is because you just don't get it. That phenomenon is almost as annoying as the 2nd movie (I never bothered with the 3rd).

On topic, I will not be getting this.

Cool. Thanks for that, Odibil!

I just picked up the LE set w/Constantine preview disc for $106 (tax included) at BB. The packaging looks a lot better in person than on the net, where I thought it looked a little cheap. The shelf doors do have an annoying squeal to them, and aligning the disc holders after taking them out is equally annoying.

The booklet is pretty cool, though, but is basically a glorified scene index for all the DVDs with an essay by the Wachowskis at the beginning.

The new transfer of The Matrix looks perfect, but they dropped the green/Matrix scenes, blue/Neb scenes theme. I LOVED that from the original, but most won't miss it.

The commentaries are *REALLY* good, and funny at times. It isn't so black and white, positive/negative though. In other words, the philosophers don't always praise everything in the trilogy, and the critics don't always bash it, but you can tell the philosophers enjoyed the movies more. Both commentaries for The Matrix is 90% positive, however.

The extras DVDs are pretty lame, if you ask me. Aside from the Revisiteds, the only one I think will hold long-term interest is the Burly Man Chronicles. The Roots of The Matrix and Science Behind The Fiction featurettes are interesting, but to only have those two assigned on one DVD with only DVD credits to accompany it was pretty weak. The rest of that space could've been used for some of those great, fan-made essays about the trilogy or something.

The Zion Archive is just trailers, spots, and the "Rock Is Dead" Marilyn Manson and "Sleeping Awake" P.O.D. videos.

The extras on Reloaded Revisited and Revolutions Revisited totally destroy those on the previous releases, I might add. Everything touched on the old releases is elaborated on at least two-fold on these discs.

People wonder why the Wachowskis didn't do commentaries for this set. Maybe they're holding off for the inevitable Blu-Ray and HD-DVD release.

..or maybe the transsexual Wachowski's voice is undergoing some treatment of some sort, and isn't "ready" to be recorded for commentary. Think about it..
