I know about them basically having to re-do the set because of missing features and such. And I keep hearing people say that it was suppose to be re-released this month.

Is there anything to this? I mean did they already re-release it or are they doing it at a later date? Or not at all?

I really want this collection so I'm patiently waiting to hear something else about it.

The initial shipment had a couple problems.

The Superman 1 DVD 1 was missing the Dolby 2.0 soundtrack, and the Superman 3 DVD was the basic version with none of the bonus features.

WB handled the problems pretty quickly. Call the 800 number, and they'd send a pre-paid mailer. Return the two defective DVDs and they'd send replacements. Only took me couple weeks to get the replacements DVDs.

I think they had already corrected these problems with the last shipment(s) before Christmas. If they're going to do another major shipment soon, I'm sure the problems will be gone.

I've seen what I assume to be the new print run in Fry's already. It should be making it's way to other stores soon.

From TheDigitalBits on 1/24/07:

We've spoken to Warner Home Video and want to update you as to the Superman replacement disc issue. Warner says the replacement program is working smoothly - correct discs are being shipped out now to all those who have requested them and have sent their incorrect discs in for exchange (via the envelope provided by the folks at the 800 number - 800-553-6937). We've been told that all of the product currently on store shelves is still the original product. To simplify the replacement situation, Warner is letting that product sell out as it is (rather than pulling it), and is then arranging replacement discs for those who request them. All discs now being manufactured however are correct, and sometime later in 2007 new corrected product will be released to stores of the 14-disc Ultimate Collection, the Superman: The Movie 4-disc set and the Christopher Reeve box set. Warner will make official announcements in a few weeks as to precisely when this product will be available in stores and how you'll be able to identify it from the previously released DVDs (at the very least, the new corrected product will have new UPC or SKU numbers). Warner's promised to provide The Bits with all the important details, so rest assured that we'll tell you as soon as they tell us.

Hope this helps.

My Best Buy was comletely out for months, and had one on the shelf when I was in last week. Same for Amazon - they were out through Christmas but then shortly after they had them available to order.

I got my replacement disks last week, and just today got my posters.
Warner screwed up, but they made good. I don't think I've ever seen the set in store [though I have seen a couple MASHes and a bunch of Buffy/Alias sets].
I *think* I heard that when 'version 2' comes out, it may not come with a tin, but don't quote me.
It's on Amazon.com for 70.99.

I'd suggest getting it and call Warner about the disks. And it's not like the disks are truly 'defective', I'm fine with the 5.1 mix on STM, though I did want the extra content on SIII.

Did Warner send the replacements discs in sleeves or in some jewel or keepcases?

There are only 2 DVDs affected, right?

The replacement DVDs came in the white paper-ish sleeves.
They just shipped them in a small cardboard non-padded mailer, the same as the mailer they give you to return the defectives.

My replacements arrived ok, but it wasn't a very sturdy way to send them.

These are the only 2 DVDs that are defective. They both work, but don't have all the content as described on the box.

Has Warner Bros. released any information on how to tell the newer release from the older release? I've seen the set in stock in a couple of places now where I hadn't seen it before.

Any more news on the reprints later this year? I really want to get this set (well mainly for the first two movies and Returns.)
lol they have sent me 3 sets of replacement discs.
How? Did you request 3 times or something?
How? Did you request 3 times or something?
No, and actually the way they do it i don't think that would have mattered since you have to send the bad discs back first. I requested once..waited a few weeks and got nothing, so I requested again..got back one and only one envelope to send bad discs back and sent it away. Got my replacement discs, and then a week later got another set, and the week after that, got a third set. The second 2 envelopes sit on my shelf in case they come calling for them..if I don't hear anything, which I'm sure I won't, I will get rid of em shortly.

For anyone that didn't know, the discs are 1 and 8, or disc 1 of Superman and Superman 3. Disc 1 was missing the original stereo audio track and Disc 8 was the old version of Superman 3, not the new Deluxe version. Otherwise it's a great set and the return process is pretty painless, so I would go ahead and pick it up now anyway, even though the new sets aren't out yet. You simply send the bad discs and in about 10 days, you get the new ones in a small cardboard envelope and 2 disc sleeves.

It does. Thank you so much mkc848.

This is why I'm still holding my original order. The replacements have not permeated the marketplace and Warners know that. In some parts of their mindset, they know that some of us will buy and exchange.

I'm just waiting until I know for sure what I'm getting and in what version of packaging.

Basically, they'll send you a prepaid return mailer for you to drop the old discs in (USPS or UPS?), right? I haven't busted open my tin set yet since I still have the old boxset around to watch (and the tin set is too beautiful to bust open and I thought I would leave it sealed in my collection for a while). And I'm not sure if I want to bust it open to get the exchange going :whistle2:|

Do you still have the phone number to call for the exchange?

Re-print coming out on 5/29:

Wow... there's more good DVD news today: Our industry sources have just informed us that Warner is about to announce that their fantastic (and Bitsy Award winning) 14-disc box set, The Superman Ultimate Collection, is being re-released to stores on 5/29 (SRP $99.92). And this time, it's the Version 2.0 that includes the fixed Superman: The Movie - Four-Disc Special Edition (with the correct original theatrical 2.0 audio) as well as the correct Superman III: Deluxe Edition disc. We're told that you'll be able to identify the set by a new sticker on the front of the packaging. It may also have a new UPC code as well (we'll post that here when we have it). Be aware that replacement discs are still available from Warner directly by calling 800-553-6937.
