Blockbuster has a promo going called the snack card: it costs $5.99 and is good for a free soda, candy or popcorn up to $1.99 in value, one per day for 30 days.

The good thing about this is it work for ANY transaction, be it gamepass, movie pass, or online exchange. So for $6 you can get a free snack with every movie!

I've heard it works as long as anything is rung up, so I don't think there are any restrictions on that end. But remember it's good for one snack a day, and if you miss it, it doesn't accumulate: it expires 30 days after you buy the card. So use it as often as possible.

Also I've heard it works with higher priced snacks (crediting $1.99 to the price, so a $3 snack is $1).

I have the online plan and last time I took my online movie into the store for exchange, they tried to get me to buy the snack card, saying that I could use it everytime I exchanged my online rentals. Obviously I can't confirm 100% because I'm just going on what the clerk told me and I didn't read the fine print or anything. I also didn't get it at the time because I was in a hurry, but I might ask them about it next time I go.

I work at Blockbuster in Ohio, and (at least in my store, so I assume in all stores with the snack card), the card works for online members as well. I was told it just needs to be a rental transaction, and I have sold a few cards to online members, and they have worked fine. If anyone is going to buy the card, obviously check with the manager of the store to verify, but like I said, it works for online members at our store.

Unfortunately, employees cannot use the card with their 5 free rentals. I was hoping on spreading out my free rentals over 5 different days, then hoarding up on snacks. Oh well.

Thats actually an incredible deal if it works with online rentals. Returning your online rentals one every day for less than a week will pay off your card.

My blockbuster just started carring the haribo gold bears too. Screw 93 cents at Walmart, give me free!

Was yours $7? Mine was only $5.99. I've already broken even on this. I go to BB pretty much every other day with TA. I swore I would never buy anything in the store but they got me.

I'll have to check this out the next time my girlfriend returns her movies in store and since she doesn't really like popcorn or soda I can hoard all the goodies.

I believe you are both right, it does work with the online. I asked another employee tonight and she seemed unsure but then said it had worked for her in the past. I was still skeptical but you guys seem to be successful with it, so now I know how to sell this damned thing :D Funny thing is, I'm sure it's costing them way to much that way; I believe it was intended to be with any paid rental but for some reason they didn't work it out that way.

Unfortunately, employees cannot use the card with their 5 free rentals. I was hoping on spreading out my free rentals over 5 different days, then hoarding up on snacks. Oh well.
I thought of the same thing tonight. :(

Sorry, it is $5.99. I didn't look very close at the sign before. I'll update the OP :D

Thanks all for the input.
When you say any rental, does that mean I could use this with my GamePass, or is it strictly for movies?
I think it will, as it's with any transaction. I am not 100% though, so ask maybe before you buy (I'll try to check out the terms on the card next time I go in).
Nice. As soon as I end NetFlix I am getting this.
I was told this promo might be ending in a month, but they may have meant a month from when you get the card (technically the card is good for 30 days after purchse). Seems stupid to end it after one month.
Also worth mentioning, Phoenix-area stores are not doing this promotion.
Well that sucks...

they got signs all over the store. the promo ends MAY 18... i think they want to test the demand for the item for a month then bring it back out this summer
they got signs all over the store. the promo ends MAY 18... i think they want to test the demand for the item for a month then bring it back out this summer
Ah, makes sense. I feel so dumb ot not know anything about it, but I always forget to check it out further when at work :p But this last weekend was way busy so I barely had time to breath.

As an added note/confirmation. This works with ANY transaction. As long as something is scanned on the account (doesn't work on non-member accounts), the snack card will work (you could even just have the CSR scan the total access free trial thing). Also, this works on any confectionary or soda under 1.99 EXCEPT icecream. This means you could get a free 2-liter every day. Pretty much, the only things that don't qualify are: healthy trail mix things, icecream, and the 2.99 sour worm/gummy bear tubs.

I doubt they'll be bringing this back. The point of it (as of right now), is to get people who don't normally spend any money in the store (movie pass or total access exchanges) to get used to grabbing something while they walk to the front. Once their snack card expires, they'll be used to bringing home the popcorn/soda/candy, so they'll just pay for it. The statistics were something like... it takes 5.2 visits to form a habit. 5 visits= $10 worth of food. After the card expires, they'll have developed the "habit" and continue to pick up food even though it's no longer free.

While I don't necessarily agree with the logic/study, that's where the card comes from.

Also, I have learned that the card will work on higher priced snacks as well, but it will just deduct $1.99 from the total, so a $3 snack is $1. Haven't seen it firsthand though.

That's cool that you can pay the difference for more expensive snacks.

Does anyone else have a negative balance when you use this. Ever time it comes up -.16 and adds up. I have like -.48 in credit.

I thought for sure after finding out it worked with Online I could sell these things like crazy. But nobody wants it. I don't think they're listening to me, cause it's a crazy good deal.

Also, updated OP to not be as confusing ;)

I have noticed this as well. I'm not sure which snacks exactly give you a small credit, if I notice it I will let you know.

Also, and this is definitely YMMV because it is just for a few stores, mine being one, they started this Premiere Pick thing, basically if you return the newest movies by close the next day you will get $1.50 credit (for those of you who still pay for rentals in store and don't use Total Access). The movies that are part of this program change every week, but there should be signs up and so forth.

Well, since apparently it gives a $2 credit on high priced items, it probably credits all the time. So if an item is $1.79, you get 20 cents or so. Not entirely sure of this though. But if thats the case, and you want credit, the kids candies are (in my store) the cheapest, sometime's a dollar.

Oh man I was talking about this with my manager, we both thought it would be a great idea since no late fees makes it hard to get stuff back on time, and it frustrates everyone. Hope this comes to my store soon :D

Sure is annoying when people complain that something's not in but then they'll turn around and keep a movie for two weeks...

I resisted temptation for free candy....I know it's only $6, and I go through a lot of movies since I have Blockbuster.com....great deal though. Tempting.

No fucking kidding! It's always the people who consistently have restocking fees who bitch about movies not being in. It's not like I have 30 copies of Smokin' Aces in my car just to piss you off.

On a side note Grilled, do you guys still get bitched at about Online Activations? We hardly get any anymore, and the manager keeps getting upset. I keep telling him the program has been going on since late October, but they still want the same numbers we got in November. It's vexing.

Most of the transactions I do now are online exchanges, and I'll be lucky to get 1 online a week when I used to get about 1 per shift. Everyone knows about it now, so they just shut me out. It sucks cause I'll have someone renting like $50 worth of movies ( I kid you not: I've had this person come in twice and do this), but they still want to "think about" the online. 2 weeks free, unlimited rentals, save you upwards of $30 a month... what's to think about?

Work in an hour too... yay.

Looks to be a one use per day card. I returned 3 movies and got my 3 free movies, but was only allowed 1 item. But still, over the course of a month, it's a killer deal overall.

Sorry if it wasn't clear enough. But yeah a snack a day for 30 days is amazing.

Oh and hoova311, regarding the Premier Pick rentals... does the credit apply even if it was an online exchange? I was telling my SM today about this and he asked me that; if it does, and they bring this to my store, I'll get off the employee trial and head straight into regular customer plan. After a few movies you'd basically get a free PVD :D

The Premiere Pick works only for rentals you pay full price for. So if you rent it with online exchange, or with your rent 5 get 1 rewards coupon or something like that, it is not eligible for the credit. You have to pay for the rental in order to get the credit.

Hmmm, one snack a day...that was interesting. When they described it to me, they said I could get TWO free snacks since I was renting two movies. Maybe that is a YMMV. It would be better to get 3 snacks at once, since I usually wait to bring all my movies back to the store at once...to minimize Blockbuster appearances.

Ok, I signed up as a little treat for my wife....I had one question.

Can we get FREE candy if we use one of the FREE RENTAIL coupon Blockbuster.com gives?

Yessir. One free snack item/day with ANY rental, paid or not. I've spaced out my Total Access so it's on constant rotation, returning one movie each day and getting my snack and free rental.

I've already gotten about $20 worth, and have consumed about 6 months worth of Reeses Pieces in the past week or so. I never thought I'd get sick of them.

I might try this. I've ignored it everytime I'm in store because most of the crap that employees try to sell you is worthless. You can't trust them.

And would they PLEASE stop asking me how BBO is going? I've been a freakin member since late 2004. You think if it wasn't going well I would have cancelled by now!

This card has been a really nice pickup. I usually hit blockbuster each day on the way home from work dropping off my online rentals or changing out a game. I don't eat alot of candy or popcorn, so the goodies have just been adding up. Will have a nice stockpile that will last a good while before this is all over :D

They ask cause of the goddamned mystery shop. Obviously they haven't been shopped yet cause one of the questions on the list is "were you told about or did you hear someone else told about the online program?" This can include being pitched the promotion or simply asking how the program is if the mystery shopper already subscribes to the program. It sucks just as much for the CSR as it does for the customer.

I've got a customer who does the same thing. She comes in everyday with just one online and the snack card after she gets off of work. When I first told her about it, I told her that it was an awesome deal and blah blah blah, but I must've slipped in that I was disappointed that employees couldn't participate. Cause now, when she comes in on my shift, she gets a candy, uses the snack card, then "accidentally" leaves it behind as a tip for me. The first time she did it, I chased her down in the parking lot saying she forgot it and she said, "oh no honey, it's for you. You've always been so helpful and are the reason I've stopped going to the other blockbuster closer to my house. I know you can't accept tips, so I accidentally left it behind ;) ."

I'm not a blockbuster member at all right now. Can someone break down the cheapest way to get the 1.99 item for me? Should i join for the two week trial, get the movies, and start returning the mail item for an in-store item? Or is there a way I can just use the snack card instore with a free transaction?

I just signed up for the 1 month 9.99 Online trial and have been returning them in-store, since they give you a free rental when returned in-store. Combined with the snack card, I get a free snack and a movie and a total due of roughly -$.24, which I'm assuming adds credit to my account.

Cheapest way would be to get the online service for the free trial as you said. I suppose if you were just returning the mailers quickly for the snack you might get about 6 online trades a week, not bad for six dollars.

Wonder if I could get my parents to get a free trial since I work there. Really want this dang card!

Yeah, I was getting credit then the manager went in and took my $0.11 cents away. Oh well....this deal has been pretty good thus far. My wife likes a little treat. The selection kind of sucks though. The movie candy seems to have shrunk over the years.

I'm using the Blockbuster Online trial, and I wondered when would I have to cancel for it still to be free? I signed up for a standard month long trial, and the account page says my next billing date is on 6/12/2007. So would I cancel on 6/11 or would that not be adequate?
