Untapped Market?

Nineswords

CAGiversary!
Hitting retail stores for hot gaming deals is one way to find gems and excellent prices, but what about hitting the local video rental store? Not the Blockbuster or Hollywood Video chains, but the mom and pop stores that have one or two locations in your town.
Here is the kicker.... Ask if they will sell the games for rent.

Usually they have older gems that cannot be found anywhere but Ebay or the lucky stroll into a used game store. On top of that, chances are good they are unaware of the market for some of the harder to find titles and will take an offer of $10 or $15 bucks because the game has been around for a few years and probably hasn't been rented in a long time. Take this example: I went over to a locally owned video store and noticed they had Shadow Hearts for rent. I asked if I could buy it. The girl at the counter pulled it off the shelf and contacted the owner of the store. They said they would sell it for $14.95. The case, manual, and disc are in excellent shape. How could I pass that by!!!

This could be an untapped market for those looking for great deals on great games. Hit some of the smaller towns in your area, there has to be a mom and pop video store somewhere that may just have the gem you are looking for......

You're such a genius. I don't think any CAGers ever thought about that.

I acutally went into my local Hollywood Video and asked if I could buy Gallop Racer 2004. I talked with the District Manager that happened to be there at the time and she told me that I could buy it for $19.99 even though it's usually not allowed...I don't know if she thought I was cute or not (she was a large black woman), but I agree that there are deals to be had at local rental chains that aren't technically "for sale".

Me thinks me kinda retarded.....rode the short bus to school and stuff.

Well, I posted in the wrong spot the first time, then posted it in the correct spot the second time, but not sure how to remove the first post. So, I left it, figuring its a dead post.

Naw, it wasn't that important to post the second time. Just wanted to get it in the correct spot.

He lives in Green Bay, give him a break.

Seriously, I've been doing this for years and I highly recommend it, it never hurts to ask. Even the franchise Blockbuster stores will do it for you if you're nice. I picked up MvsC2 and Futurama PS2 for each $15 eachthe other day at a local BB.

Just pray that you live in an area where video rentals are still run by smaller stores. Blockbuster came in in three locations back at home around more than a decade ago and slaughtered every single mom n' pop in the surrounding 10 or so towns. That would have been all well and good but then the Blockbusters decided they didn't have to compete with anyone and let their stock and overall quality take an absolute nose-dive...until Netflix came around.

But it is a fine suggestion. Unfortunately, it's also magnificent if the place ends up going out of business and has to liquidate their stock, but a deal is a deal.

I've been to GB. Tis a strange little town. Like a little suburban town and then WHAMMO!!! A huge football stadium. And a prison of some sort. And there's a casino near by, so it has that. I went to a wedding there. Maybe I'll go again someday when the Bears play the Packers. Maybe.
