^Sometimes there is a cap on how much credit you can get from a particular bank.. so most likely you already cap that limit from Chase.

^Could be many things, but my Amazon card available balance is really low. I think It's under 4k. I think I've maxed out my available benefits through Chase.
You don't even have to buy a PS3 to get the cashback. I found this in the terms:

"Your first single sales receipt purchase equal or greater than $299 ("Qualifying Purchase") must be made by 3/31/09 and will automatically qualify you for a first $100 Statement Credit."

Looks like as long as you buy something that costs $300 or more you will get $100 back. Then you can get the other rebates if you spend enough. Pretty good deal I guess, no annual fee, 0% APR for 12 months.
Yup, I bought a Sony E-Reader. I already had a PS3 :)

8/29: ordered at sonystyle.com (said will ship 8/31)
9/1: shipped
9/2: received (yay! BTW I live in CA and it shipped from CA)
Chase.com still says the charge is pending. (outstanding balance 0.00)

I got my shipping confirmation today.
one problem though.... the weigh on the tracking is only 1.8lbs
ahhh.... did sony accidentally mailed me a random battery rather than the ps3?
guesss i'll find out on Friday

this is good deal, i wish i saw this earlier. i jumped in on that dell deal for $270 instead

looking as my previous 6 month CC statements, i have spent way more than 3k, with each month paid in full of course. oh well, i guess i'll have 1 less plastic in my wallet

You can buy anything over $299 at SonyStyle and get the deal...

How long did it take anyone for the purchase to finally go through ? (on chases website)

And how much longer to get the 100 $ credit ? Is it a "Credit" as in reduces your balance by 300 ? or a "Credit" as in you have to spend another 100 dollars to use it ?

And can you can cancel the card soon after you pay it off ? Since ill never ever use it
I was rejected for this card because I already had a Amazon CC from the same bank that issues this card. I think they saw, I pay the whole balance each month, that tends to piss off CC companies.
I had the same issue, as I applied for the Playstation Card about 2 weeks after I applied and got the Amazon Card.

How soon did you apply for the Playstation Card after you got the Amazon one?

^I think it was 2 months after. I think I will get a better deal out of the Amazon card in the long run.

Opening a new credit line lowers your credit score. That is quite possibly why you were rejected for a second card. On most reward credit cards, you will need a good credit score to get approved. I have both a playstation card and an amazon card and I had no problem. But I've had my amazon.com card for a while why the playstation card is more recent.
so, if it don't get approved instantly, it means i'm not at all? crap
Yep, get ready for your rejection letter.
Yep, get ready for your rejection letter.
I didn't get approved immediately, and my credit scores are great. I have an old Circuit City card that I think is Chase that I only opened for the 18 months same as cash and it will be paid off and closed within a couple of months. I was not ever going to use the extra 75%+ of the credit line on that card. But I'm guessing that is what is stopping me from getting this deal.

Oh, well, no Playstation for me. They rejected the wrong person because it will be a long time before I think I need a PS3 for more than free.

I signed up for the Playstation visa about a month ago but didn't use it as I wanted to wait for the PS3 Slim. I bought the Slim using the PS visa at Best Buy. It took about a week and I got my $100 credit. So I guess you don't have to get it from Sony to get the credit.

They changed the terms recently, for new card members, you HAVE TO make a purchase of $299 or more directly from the SonyStyle.com site to get the $100 statement credit.

On chase website, 2-3 weeks. The credit is a $100.00 credit to your current balance. Don't wait for the credit to hit if a payment is due. If you got 0% financing, purchases after qualif. purchase are at regular rate. Took about 2 weeks to see 1st credit.

Well, just got my rejection letter because:

"You accepted similar offers in the past; you're not eligible for another"

I have no idea what that means. Lame.

Guess I'll have my wife try and sign up for one tonight.

Just ordered mine..woot! Will end up being free cause i easily spend the needed amount. Responsible CC'ing = Free PS3 for me!

I finally got wind that mine was shipped yesterday and should be here saturday according to Fedex. Sony never sent me a shipping email like they said they would. I ended up looking up my account information on my own to see if it had shipped yet

Honestly speaking, if one's only goal for getting this card is a PS3, you may as well just spend $299 on one without signing up for a card. :s

:D
I have the opposite opinion.
I think people that signed up for this offer should be in for the PS3 only.

I check the Sony Reward website and it was pretty disappointing.
There is not much you can redeem your points for and a lot of items cost way too many points.
(ie. Uncharted is only worth $30 but it cost 6000 points which is equivalent to $60).

I think most people should stop using this card after getting the $300 credit. The only exception would be to charge a few more dollars to finish redeeming the points or charge it once a year just to keep the account active.

Assuming you're paying in full every month, getting a free PS3 after charging only $3000 is a great offer.
Where else can you a 10% return on your purchases??? You probably can't.
The best credit card in my possession is only giving me back 2% cashback. I also have a 5% Discover card but that is only on gas.

And yes, I know my credit score will be lowered a few points temporarily but that is totally worth it just to get a free ps3. ;)

One small detail you may not be aware of is that you can buy your reward from any major retailer (only Sony stuff, and Sony-published games) and send in a form to get the credit back on your card (snail mail, but it works); they'll deduct the correct amount of points and credit you the amount. So you aren't forced to pay full retail at the rewards site. Also, you get the bonus points. There's another thread about this card and the OP gives you all the detail how to work the system ;)

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=210332

I get on the rewards site daily and get the trivia question right and they credit me 10 points each day (that's the points you normally get for spending $10).

I probably ought to switch back to my other Chase card, but there are a few more games I want that are published by Sony.

The bottom line is you get roughly a $300 value for applying for a credit card. This is comparable to the 25k bonus miles etc you get from a decent mileage earning card. So its a good bonus. Not the best, but if you were buying a PS3, a real $300 value is a good one for every day purchases. I convinced an 360 person to go dual system because of this deal.

mmm?? You do know the difference between free (if you already spend 500 in daily expenses) and paying $300 right?
Yes, but I haven't used it in quite some time.
thx.. That means my wife can't apply for this promo then. She has a Sony Card and I have a PS card..

sigh... finally broke down and did this... :)
debated and debated several months ago...

anyway quick question for those that just signed up this week... how long did it take before you could sign up for a sonyrewards.com account with your new card?

I just tried and it couldn't find the info... gave me a toll free number to call but gonna wait till tomorrow to give that a go... would like to get the bonus points for the ps3 I just ordered...

As I said, if your only goal is to get a PS3 (which apparently, your first purchase has to be of $299 or more), then there's no point in the card since you may as well just throw down the $299 on the system and not have to worry about signing up for a card and making over $300 in purchases to get credit back to get a PS3.

But if you somehow already spend money like a madman, then the card's fine for those people. Being the broke bastard I am, this card is basically useless. :p

When I signed up back in February it took about 4 or 5 days before the Sony Rewards site would recognize my credit card number. You can sign up at the site anytime though, just have to keep trying to link your credit card number.

By the way I've gotten a free Blu-ray remote and DS3 controller off their site since Februrary, plus I'm sitting on about 8,000 points now. Love this card. :)

Since when is spending $500 a month "spending like a madman"?

Most people do that on a monthly basis on gas, food, utilities, car insurance, etc.
The trick is, YOU'VE GOT TO BE RESPONSIBLE. You just change your habits from 1) paying cash for stuff, or putting some stuff on your debit card and some stuff on your CC, to 2) putting EVERYTHING on your new CC, then paying it off every month. Unless you're living with your parents without a job, anyone can do this. Seriously, anyone.

One question - to get the second $100 credit for spending $1500, does that $1500 include the $299 for the PS3, or does it have to be $1500 spent in addition to buying the PS3?

really?
COOL!
Thanks for the info.:applause:

I applied to the Playstation card through the link two days ago, but I haven't received any email from Sony.
How long does it usually take them to reply?
Do they send application confirmation email?

Thanks.

That's your 2 keywords there, broke and don't even spend $500 a month for daily living expenses, You shouldn't buy any extra item, including xbox (per your sig), just basic stuff.. save your money and spend it for college. Once you know how thing works, use credit to your advantage.

Don't start buying houses or things that you can't afford and blaming the realtor or the bank for your own mistakes. ;)

I think $500 a month for living expenses that can be charged (I realize rent/mortgage can usually not) even in the cheapest city is not extravagant for any person living on their own. I guess someone living at home and still depending on their parents, etc, may still not have that level of expenses, but a new CC is probably not a good idea for these people anyway.

Groceries - $200
Car insurance - $120
Gas - $50
Cable + internet - $90
Wireless phone - $70

Total Fixed monthly expenses that can be paid by CC - $530

That's probably low-balling it.

Just wanted to share my experience with Sonystyle.com -

I applied for the card, was approved, and ordered a Slim PS3 Sunday evening (8/30). My order had an estimated ship date of 8/31.

On 9/2 I got antsy because my order status and not changed so I called Sonystyle. I talked with a gentlemen who said that the Slim PS3 was on backorder. He went on to say that he could not offer me any status on when it could ship without contacting the warehouse, who would respond in ~48 hours. My phone disconnected our conversation. I called back and the lady I talked with this time said that her system was down and that she was not able to look up my information. I gave in and decided to wait it out.

On 9/3 I received an email that my order was shipped. It had shipped 9/1. I checked the tracking number, and it was scheduled to arrive 9/4. However, the weight for the package was 1.8lbs. I called Sonystyle customer support about that.

The customer service rep said that is normal, as they "estimate" the weight for their packages, and sometimes just use a "generic" weight because of their automated system for pickup scheduling with Fedex. I said whatever and left it at that.

Today the tracking number had ambiguous info, so I called Fedex to arrange to pick up the package in person so I could avoid potentially missing the package while at work and having to wait till after the weekend and Labor Day holiday to receive it. Turns out the package was delayed, and scheduled to ship tomorrow. While I was on the phone I asked about the weight discrepancy and nice lady said that is very unusual, and to the best of her knowledge incorrect as they would not accept a package that had its weight labeled incorrectly. She went on to say that at every point the package is scanned and surely someone would notice that the package is incorrectly labeled. Btw, according to Amazon, the Slim PS3 is just under 8lbs. 1.8 !≈ 8

I called Sonystyle about the Fedex lady pretty much telling me that the package is almost guaranteed to be 1.8lbs. I suggested that a reasonable course of action would be for Sonystyle to contact Fedex and recall the package, then, send out a new package containing a Slim PS3 overnight.

The supervisor I spoke with did not agree with me that that was a reasonable course of action and said that my only option was to wait until tomorrow to see what the mystery box held. He said that neither he nor I could place an order today, with overnight shipping, and have it be here tomorrow because their system takes ~24 hours to process an order. Thus, any option at this point, assuming that the package is not a Slim PS3, involved waiting until mid next week at earliest to get a resolution.

So, best bet on the mystery box? Strong possibilities include a PSP, which in name is remarkably close to PS3, an AC Adapter, which is not quite close to PS3 at all, several old editions "Playstation: The Official Magazine", or ~1.8 of the following http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_different_objects_weigh_a_pound.

Btw, best of luck with Sonystyle. For everyone else's sake, I hope my problems are in the minority.

My package also says 1.8 pounds.

Im not going to worry about it though. IF they did indeed send me the wrong package, I w ill definitely be making sure they make up for it by giving me some kind of freebees (Either keeping the psp or a free game or something) or else im canceling my order and the credit card immediately.

Trust me theyll make it right.

(Mine is coming tommorow, ill let you know if its a ps3 or a psp slim)

And looking at the amazon forums, people are reporting a huge range of weights in their fedex tracker for the ps3 slim.

Alot of them are saying 12lbs or 17lbs though
