EDIT: I just got back from EB and I traded the games listed below plus my PS2 (which didn't play CD games) for $150 store credit and I'm getting a pstwo on Wednesday (they didn't have any in stock)!! I'm so excited. I was able to get rid of crap games and upgrade my PS2. Now I can even go online! They took all old sports gams and everything! This may be YMMV but the manager told me it shouldn't be since the ad doesn't mention exclusions.

I'm about to go to EB with my working ps2, all hookups and controller plus Rygar, Rogue Ops, Dark Cloud, MDK2, Devil May Cry [edit: decided to trade in XIII instead of DMC] and NFL2K3. What are the chances I'll get $150 in store credit? THe ad does not mention anything about exclusions...

On the subject of exclusions, can someone point me to a list which has the EB exclusions on the "Trade In 5 games get Halo 2, San Andreas etc."

I too will be going to EB later but with my Cube and 5 games to get $100 credit

Last time they had this deal, some stores had exclusions and some didn't, though most of the ones I saw did. Your best bet is to call.

If you're talking about that tradein deal where you trade in a console and 5 games and get $150, that trade-in deal ended a LONG time ago.

There is a new one for the holiday.

It's back.

EB's list of excluded games.. as far as I've seen, this list applies to all trade-in deals. Which should mean the current console trade in deal also.

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/ads/shops/instoretradein/exclusions.asp

P.S. Rogue Ops, Dark Cloud, MDK2, Devil May Cry and NFL2K3 are all on the excluded list, only Rygar seems to be ok.

edit - We seem to get asked for this list quite often. So for future reference... It's very easy to find, go to www.ebgames.com, click on Trade-In Offers, then click on Exclusion List.

Like someone stated before it seems to be a YMMV deal with the trade ins. When I did it with the earlier deal from a few months back, the EB I went to made it an emphatic point to tell me it was *ANY* five games (I guess the manager had a beef with corporate). So after five copies of Madden 2001-2003 for a buck or two each I was set. Your best bet is to call all the EB stores around you and ask them. If you find one that takes anything, head over there and find hte guy you spoke with.

This is total crap if there are exclusions at some EBs and not others. It's also total crap if there exclusions and the ad does not mention it anywhere. I didn't get a chance to go today but I'm definitely trying tomorrow...

...and that "exclusions list" is complete BS - I mean there are probably over 100 games on that list. There's almost no way someone would even be able to do one of their "special deals" if all of these games were excluded. Someone off the street who read the ad, packed up their ps2 and gathered together 5 games to trade in and went to the store would be extremely pissed that none of the games he brought counted. It seems like it would create a lot of hassle...

My friend called one of the EB's here in the Bay Area and was told there was exclusions, I may call another later and hopefully I'll get a different answer.

I was shocked because they even took old sports games. You could actually exploit the deal a little bit if you wanted to by buying a used system and 5 copies of madded 2002 or something that should only cost $1 or $2 and then trade it all in towards a new system...

Yeah, I called two other EB's and was told "some games are excluded, to find out the best deal just bring in all your games and we'll figure it out"

Maybe you got lucky or me unlucky, I think I'll go live to one of the stores and try to ask when someone else is there.

Why is it total crap? They're a business. They're not here to lose money or to subsidize your gaming. They can make whatever offers they want, and if they don't want to give $10 in credit for Madden 2002, a game that they would be lucky to get $1 for, that is their choice.

That list isn't updated. I've tried to trade in multiple times and have been turned down with games that aren't on there.

I agree with you in theory. My comment was directed to the fact that the ad didn't say "some exclusions apply" or something to that effect. EB Can do whatever the hell they want - just make it clear and have it be universal across stores. I may have gotten lucky or something but I think it is total crap that other EBs are turning people down...
But that's just $150 of credit. You still have to pay tax on the new system, right?
Yeah, no big deal though...

I traded in my old ps2 and 5 excluded games (they said they took anything) for the new PS2 yesterday. Great deal, I wholeheartedly recommend it...my old ps2 already broke twice, and I wasn't gonna risk it breaking again. Plus, the new one is TINY.

No, you don't have to pay tax when you use trade in credit. I got my PSTwo when they did the trade in deal last time for $149.99. I even got a penny back.

yeah but its only a 3 month warranty, but my XBOx has a 4 year on it...

BTW, some guy on the XBOX.com forums said I can... who should I call? 1-800-4my-XBOX?

aight ill call em later (gotta ask my bro if its really worth it) will post results for you others who may have this problem, I might call tom tho... also this dea lends at store closing tom right? no like tonight....

I'm going to try this today.

I have five "excluded" games . . . mostly ill-advised Circuit City buys (Alter Echo . . .) that no one wanted in trades etc.

I think my EB is going to be jerks about it . . . based on phone calls yesterday. I wanted to make sure I could prepurchase a system even if they are not in stock . . . they gave me a sorta, maybe kind of yes.

I asked about exclusions and they were very slippery about the subject. "Just bring your games in" but I said its not the standard exclusion list, right? "its better to just bring your games in."

I'll try it . . . it would be worth some pain . . . my PS2 has worked well but it is 3 years old. It would be nice to not have the motor driven door (its got to give out sometime?) plus I hope the new little one will give out less fan noise. I don't have a network adapter . . . etc.

But I'm guessing I'll leave without a deal!?!

I agree with that, the ad should mention what exactly the terms are, but there are inherent varaiances between EB's about exclusions... If one title isn't excluded, but one particular B&M has over 100 copies of it, they're not going to want people trading it in there. But other than that, the terms need to be stated clearly and they should probably mention how to find the exclusions list. One thing they did do though was a promotion that specifically included excluded games, $20 for any 5 games on top of their trade-in value. I traded in NHL 01, Madden 02, Turok, etc, all in beat up stickered up used EB cases from better games.

More than likely, you need a first party controller and the basic hook-ups. This has been the case with any console I've ever traded in before.

You need a complete console (power cord, TV hookup, controller) for trade-in.

I $@#%& knew it. I was turned down at my local EBGames. Jagoff clerk just says he can't do anything. I called an EB about 25 minutes away (South side of Milwaukee) . . . the manager said "if the ad says no exclusions then you don't have to worry."

I drive over . . . he can't get it to go . . . I nicely remind him that I'm now an hour into this . . . actually the guy was really nice . . . only one of 2 thoughtful EBgames people that I've ever met!

Throughout I stood my ground . . . I think the fact that I called and talked to him made him feel obligated to accept the deal.

Ultimately he overrides the system but then, since they have no PS2s in stock the deal is dead. . . . I was about to lose my mind. . . but he ends up giving me store credit for 149.95 (sells me a 5 cent card collector plastic sheet to please the computer).

I traded in my 3 year old system (I think it was manufactured very early in 2001) with 5 sealed PS2 titles: XIII ($4 Target), Prysm ($3 at CC), Roadkill, Sphinx, and Alter Echo . . . $22. Best of all, I'm rid of the games.

Hopefully, I'll be able to pick up a new PS2 this week--I've been enjoying Ratchet and Clank 3 :whistle2:k Until then . . . I'll have to make due with Metroid 2.

I did this today at a different EB than the one I normally go to. There ARE exclusions on this, at least at the EB I went to. They wouldn't take R : Racing, Fifa Soccer 2002, or NFL Blitz Pro. They ended up taking Spyhunter 2, Aliens Vs Predator, MLB Slugfest, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Sims Bustin Out along with my used Xbox for $150 in credit. Since they had no new Xbox systems in I went to another EB with $150 on the gift card and got a new Xbox there, so I ended up having to pay tax.

Overall this is a good deal though. I got rid of my refurb Thompson drive Xbox (even though it honestly wasn't giving me any problems) for a Phillips drive brand new Xbox along with Top Spin and NCAA 2005.

:)

I traded in my refurbed PS2 and five games, all but 1 on the exclusion list. They were:
SW Racer Revenge (not on exclusion list, for some strange reason).
Virtua Fighter 4 (original version)
Madden 2003
Ready 2 Rumble Round 2
SSX Tricky (didn't want to sell it, but I needed a fifth title, and sacrifices must be made. It didn't see much action since I got SSX3 anyway.)
I called one EB, and they said there were exclusions. So, I called around, and found one that didn't have any. The total for the games and system without the deal was just under $75. So, it was a good deal for me. Sadly, no mini ps2's in stock, but I'm on the list at least.

When does this deal end at EBgames?

Also, this is possible with all systems and still get back $150? (GCN, N64, GBA?)
I got GCN and 5 games, I wanna see if I can trade in GCN with 5 games, pick up $150, buy the GCN back new for $99 with the bundle, and then spend the extra $50 on a DS.

Would it be possible to do that?

EDIT: Games that I want to trade in:
F-Zero GX
I-Ninja
Madden 2002
NHL 2003
Burnout
Metroid Prime

Would any of these be excluded?

Not sure when the deal ends but trading in a GC and 5 games only gets you $100 in credit.

Crap.
Do you know the rest of the trade in values for the systems? (GBA, N64, Xbox)
Too bad it's $100 for the GCN, probably because the GCN is $100 :p

There are no exclusions. The stores telling you to bring in your games "to find out if they're excluded or not" probably went the best pick of the crappy litter you bring in. This gives the stores some leverage by picking from the lot of used games you bring in, rather then letting the customer bring in only the 5 crapiest games they can find.

Maybe at the EB you went to. Not mine. I handed the guy the 5 games I least wanted, he scanned them, took 3 out, said "ok these 3 will go", I handed him 2 more, etc etc...

Strange. I gave him my Madden 2003 (which goes for $2 used there), and he accepted it with no trouble.
