$1,499 brand new from Fry's Electronics. They have four left, and I'm trying to tell my Mom she needs to buy one for herself, but she doesn't think it's a good deal.

UPDATE: It sold out before I got there!! I was only gone for 15 minutes, they sold all four, plus the display unit!

I bought this one instead...

I got it for the same price, was it a good deal? I have seven days to cancel my order if I wish.

I tried to get my dad to get this same one, for 1400ish at brandsmart, he declined.
Id say look at some reviews and look at it in person, soon enough youll be able to get a 42" hd plasma for this range.

It really depends on who you ask, but I would much rather have a DLP than a plasma. Plasma's imo are more about fashion than function. Thats an awesome TV for $1400. Its an older model, but the only real noticible difference that the new one has is a higher contrast ratio.

Correct on everyones opinion, I dont really like projection tvs, imo plasma/lcd/crt have way better, crts are to big tho, lcds dont get that big, so im left with a plasma. Preferably panasonic.

What you should do is this -

Go to Video Only. Say that Fry's has x price on whatever goods. They'll usually try to beat it and sometimes even throw in free shipping.

I love Video Only, we got a TV for at cost price (that was a really good deal but we hooked the guy up with some stuff). Even if you can't get it at price, they'll still give you a great deal. I've found them to always be the lowest.
