Urget Dreamcast help!

About a year ago, I found an old dreamcast in a box near the dumpster at my work. Being the little bum-at-heart that I am, after my shift was over, I drove up and took it home with me.. and amazingly enough, after a bit of cleaning it ran beautifully! So I bought a few games for it..

..and for months it worked fine, until one night. If I can recall the events correctly, as I was plugging in the AV out cord and the power in to play, something happened and my game stopped coming up on the screen. For a while, I figured it was just my TV {other consoles wouldn't play on that TV, but on others}, so this morning I tried it out on the living room TV.. and still, nothing happened. When I jiggle the plug going into the AV out, I can see about half a second of the game, because it goes out again. So I have some questions..

1. Has this happened to anyone else?
2. Is it my dreamcast, the cables, or both?
3. Should I just buy a new one?

Help. :|

that, or try another av cable

1. Could be your dreamcast's AV port or the AV cables themselves.
I'd try to find another set of AV cables and try it on your dreamcast or find/borrow another dreamcast and test it with your current cables.
2. Possibly it could be your game, I've heard that the first print runs of Blue Stinger and Sonic Adventure were known to not work properly or not at all. Try a different game in your living room, you probably already tried this option.
3. Buy a new one, maybe look for another dreamcast at EBgames or Gamestop since they're supposed to be about $15.
Hope this helps, sorry if it doesn't your situation has never happened to me, but I've never found a free dreamcast before though! :)

Good luck with that. I called every GameStop/EB Games within a 20 mile radius from my house, and they acted like I was crazy for asking if they had one.

GameCrazy was the same.

As you've found out, the unit was in the trash for a reason. As others have suggested, the cheapest thing to try would be to replace the A/V cable. Beyond that, you're better off finding another system. EB/GS isn't dealing with DCs or other "previous generation" systems/software anymore, so to quicken your search, you could try pawn shops, garage sales, or of course, eBay.

my dreamcast did the same thing so i just opened it up and made sure all of the cords inside were tight and then put it back together and it worked perfectly, i just played it yesterday

You could just use the store locater to find out which ones have it. Then, go there and befriend the store associates, and after a week or so, ask them if they have one.

Calling doesn't help since they'll have to look in the back, and for $15, it's just not worth the trouble.
i dont think there ment to make sure no one stills their trash, just to ward off "wonderers"
still not cool to get caught in the trash.......not worth getting busted for a penny guide or anything else for free.. who knows the store might still press charges on you just for kicks.

The funny thing is, about a week ago, the EB Games and another Gamestop close to my location showed 1 - 3 Dreamcasts in-stock. But when I called those same stores, I get the "GameStop doesn't carry Dreamcast" routine.

I guess I'll have to go visit some of the stores in person, it's just a pain... gas is expensive, and the closest GameStop/EB Games is about 6 miles.

I ended up getting a new one for $15. I managed to "fix" the older one, but it tends to go out after a few hours of play. The new one runs beautifully. Thank you everyone! I didn't expect to get many responces, so.. thank you. :D
