US Census and Government Waste
I got a census form and it fills me with so much nerd rage...

Art I Section 2 "The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct."

I don't see what people's phone numbers, age, skin color, or sex has to do with counting the citizenry in order to determine our new congressional districts. If anyone could tell me, I'd love to know.
Go back to the beginning of the thread and start reading. We've had this argument already.
that's all the census is used for, congressional districts.

derpderpderp.
It *IS* what the census was designed to be used for.

Our wonderful government, through the years, has manipulated it to be used as yet another instrument of plunder though.

Ok, this is fucking ridiculous. I got sent a whole new Census form today. I sent it out nearly two weeks ago. Why the fuck would they send two to the same fucking address?
They heard someone named Jerry Curl was living there too, DoK, and you didn't account for them.
I hate you...

IRHari: Extremely un-PC but I LOL'd at the absurdity of it.

If anyone else here gets a second census form in the mail please post. I want to see how prevalent this is.
Hate to drag up an old topic, but I was doing some random reading, came across that the Census Bureau was involved in giving information to the government to help find the Japanese in the United States and put them in internment camps?

I'm generally not a crazy government hater, but that's fucking scary as hell.
Ugh. That's all I have to say about that. And to think I put my husband down as Japanese on the Census.
You want more scary government? Look up Joe McCarthy.
Yeah, I know quite a bit about McCarthy, but I have to honestly say I was completely ignorant about this, can't believe this didn't draw more attention. Craziness.
Ugh. That's all I have to say about that. And to think I put my husband down as Japanese on the Census.
Being a minority myself, I have to honestly say I'll think twice about reporting certain things on the census form.

Yeah, but that was before they had the privacy laws surrounding it that they do now.

(Well apparently after some, but different ones...)

I put other down for my race. I'm looking forward to someone coming to my door and saying, "You look hispanic and black so we'll just put that."
Yeah, but that was before they had the privacy laws surrounding it that they do now.

Yeah - that's awesome. Because, you know, our government has been known to respect the laws surrounding our privacy and such.

Now, where's that thread about warrant-less wiretapping and such?

Yeah, but it's not like the census is unique in that respect. You can say that about pretty much anything. Obviously it's possible to still repeal a law, or alter or suspend it. The check still always has to be the people. It's not like the government rounded up the Japanese Americans against the will of the people or something. People still have to bitch and vote according to how they feel.

Besides, if the government didn't get that info there's some private company that already has it and is perfectly willing to sell it at the drop of a hat. Where there's a will there's a way and all. If the government wants to round you up they don't really need the census.
