Used PC - Did I get a good deal?

wageslave

CAGiversary!
Its a Compaq Presario

600 Celeron
512 Megs Ram (was upgraded)
15 Gig HD
Yamaha 20X10X40 CDRW drive (need to find drivers to get it to record though)
Win 98 SE
Gateway 19 CRT Monitor
Ethernet Card (need to find drivers)
It had integraded video, but I popped in my 3DFX Voodo 3 for Diablo, halflife, flying heros, etc.

I have the restore disks for it

$50 at yard sale.

Not the fastest thing in the world, but I didn't have a computer at home so it's nice to finally be able to surf, check email and do all my other dumb stuff.

You got an excellent deal, my friend. Now just scan the hard drive for credit card numbers, Social Security Numbers, and dirty e-mails, and you've hit the jackpot.

For games like Diablo and such, its not that bad a setup. You could even throw in a larger harddrive and just make it a file server for a modest network.

The only saving grace is that you didn't have a computer at home before. Otherwise I would've encouraged something a bit more modern. Just don't try to do too much with it and you'll have your money's worth in no time!
600 celeron ... ouch ... If all you want it for is a lil web surfing you are good
Used to play many games on a Celeron 333, 64 megs PC133 and on board SiS video card. I think he's set for just about any game pre-99

Yup I remember having a Celeron 366 OC'ed to 550 before... I used to run Half Life, UT, & Total Annihiliation on it. For $50, can't beat that deal. Good find.

Red Alert will run great on that! haha I love that game.

Yeah monitors may sell for 60 bucks for a 16 incher but if you go around enough everyone has monitors for 5 bucks, I got a 21 incher for 30 once and I've gotten a 27inch tv for 35 bucks.

great price...congrats. i run a 1.2 mhz celeron presario with 512mb ram...you'll be fine. mine was a hand me down from a family member that claimed it was broken. i cleaned all the spyware, porn, and other aol crap that was hogging resources...now it runs like a champ.

don't worry about the previous post, you'll be fine using broadband with this machine...the lack of processor speed has little to nothing to do with networking speeds and loading web pages. good price on yours...check your mobo and see what type of video card it can hold. i installed one and it has really helped out on my machine.

like someone else said, the monitor alone is worth $40.

you can surf the web, play older games ( hl, ut,) watch dvds if u get a dvd drive ( $10)

DVDs may be an if.

$50 is a good deal for a Celery 600 with a 19" monitor. IF the monitor is good.

Sounds like a good Quake 2 & oldschool game box with the Voodoo in it :D

I gotta agree, that's not a bad find at all for $50. If it were me, I'd be finding copies of Unreal Tournament, Tribes 2, Quake 2, Half-Life, Red Alert, Decent ... man, the list could go on and ON. Nice old school gaming machine!!

Wow, nice deal man. I would of bought it just for the monitor. Like everyone else is saying, get some of the older games like unreal and hl.

Is it wrong that I would want to buy used computers just for that reason. Not to use them but to go oh look what I found.

The monitor really does make this deal worth it. Otherwise I wouldn't even pay $20 for anything named Presario nor with those specs.
