I just realized this earlier today but I've never bought a used PC game.

I've been meaning to buy some more PC games and since I buy a lot more used stuff these days, I was wondering, how can you tell which PC games can be bought used without having to worry about installation issues?

I know any Steam game is tied to a single account and some can only be installed a few times before they'd defunct (BioShock).

Yea, my EBGames used to offer used PC games a few years ago, but then they just stopped selling them.

I don't know of any B&M places that sell used games because of the hassle of keeping track of which games come with CD-Keys etc.

Pretty much, single player only games for the most part you're good getting used.

Any multiplayer you'll want new, unless you're gonna play LAN only.

Games like Bioshock with the limited amount of installs are rare, so your best bet is to just look up the particular game before you buy it used.

You can buy used copies of Blizzard's non-WOW games without issues - mostly. If you get a "CD key in use" error you can call them up, show them that you have the legit CD keys somehow, and they'll reset them for you, but the process can take a while. Now that they've started to use digital distribution, though, this may not be the case any longer.

If you have a half-price books in your area, they usually carry tons and tons of used (some new) pc games for pretty cheap.

If you have a DVD/CD reader drive and not a burner, that should be your PC gaming disk drive. SecureRom and Starforce have given me the most trouble playing on my DVD burner drive.

Actully I have never had a problem buying a multiplayer game used. If you buy it on ebay or buy it from some one you kind of know there unlikely to keep using the cd key and screw you (this was the problem when eb sold used games). Just aslong is a non vauve game there should be no problem.

I buy used PC games all the time. Usually the CD key is in the case and it works for me just fine. If it didn't I would ask the buyer to give me their account information (they probably want to change their password first), then I log in and change the password to secure it.

Goozex and ebay are good sources.
