V For Vendetta

Hell no... A script (re)written by the Hack bros., directed by a guy who's never been the lead on a motion picture but who's last work was assistant director on the crappy Matrix sequels and Star Wars Episode 2. Also, the thing that really bothers me is Alan Moore running away from it as fast as he can and dissassociating it fro him publicly, when the creator of the comic is doing that to what was supposed to be a "faithful recreation", you know it's probably not. Needless to say if I go to see it in theatres I'll be dragged by some friends and they'll be buying.
i will probably wait untill tuesday....2 tix and a large popcorn for $8 :)
We have an AMC that does $5 movies and free popcorn (and parking) on Tuesdays. That may be my best bet.:D

You guys pay 8 bucks for movies, man its 1.50 here there i no way in hell i would pay more.

I highly doubt you can see a first-run (new release) movie for less than $5. Unless you work at a theater, and then it's free.

I agree. Movies are very expensive to buy. A theatre could not pay for a first run movie by only charging $1.50 a ticket.

Probably not opening night. But very soon afterwards.

Special student rate once a week perhaps? I know at my college if you went on a certain night once a month you could get in for $2.50.

There is one local theater that is around $4 that shows new releases. Its "out in the boonies" as my manager put it so they still don't get much business.

In Chicago, I believe the average price for a movie ticket is around $8.50, but we do have matinees for $5.75 and $5 Tuesdays at one theater near me.

Is this movie based on 1 graphic novel, or is it a series?
Is this movie based on 1 graphic novel, or is it a series?
It's one graphic novel, originally published as a dozen or so single issues, not unlike From Hell and the Watchmen. You can pick it up for twenty bones, and it's worth every penny. I think From Hell may be better objectively, but V for Vendetta is probably my personal favorite of Moore's work. It's absolutely scathing.

I was pretty skeptical about the movie, what with it being helmed by a first-time director and all, but a trustworthy friend scored an advanced screening and was surprised at how not-crap it was, so I've reconsidered.

Besides -- Alan Moore distances himself from everything he's ever done at some point. Should I not read Miracle Man either?

Oh, and anyone else notice how they pushed the movie back from Guy Fawe's Day to St. Patty's Day? Good stuff.

Granted only a few reviews are up but so far 7 out of 9 critics liked it on rotten tomatoes.

Also it's quite typical for a writer to disassociate themselves from a movie simple because parts that are important to them are left on the cutting room floor.
V For Vendetta aka Z For Zorro..
Can you even get into an "R" rated movie without your mommy's permission?

Actually the thing that no doubt angered him so much was them choosing to literally rewrite key parts of his work after saying they were such huge fans and that they'd treat it faithfully in the beginning. I also like the misleading, credit grabbing commercials "a Tale from the creators of the Matrix" or whatever it is they say. Maybe I'm being too subjective because I love Moore's work though.

As for the rottentomoatoes thing, Matrix Reloaded which I thought was an awful downgrade from the first has a 75%. 70+ critics also liked the 3rd one. But it's beside the point, the question was whether I was anticipating it enough to bother seeing it on opening weekend. To which my response was no, then I listed a couple reasons why I wasn't at all anticipating it. Everyone is free to disagree and who knows, it could be this awesome blockbuster movie, and I'll be a fool. But I still probably won't see it in the first run at theatres (unless like I said someone else pays my way) because I'm not at all looking foward to it really.

Yeah, but he distanced himself from League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and that movie was ass. I'll go see it, but I'll be awfully sad if it's crap.
..... The whole idea of the League was ass. Hey instead of creating my own characters I'll use everyone elses and toss them all together.
Read the graphic novels, dude: they're quite good, though you need to be up on your Victorian literature to fully appreciate them. I assure you "instead of creating my own characters I'll use everyone elses and toss them all together" was not the point.

I really hope it turns out to be good, it looks like it could be very interesting. Moore seems to be sour on anything Hollywood(with good reason) so I can't really take his objections with too much weight, but the other creator seems to approve of this so it gives me hope.
I highly doubt you can see a first-run (new release) movie for less than $5. It works out pretty good and they recently(like a year and a half ago) renovated it so it's pretty clean and nice. The second run theater is also only $0.75 for the first showing on weekdays, which was great when I went to see Howl's Moving Castle there a couple of weeks ago.

Until this year, I could. The matinees at my Loews we're 4.50. But they got bought out by AMC and now they're 5.50.

He actually changed into a she quite a while ago. It's just none of the offline media wants to mention it (until now with Rolling Stone) so most people still don't know. I think s/he hasn't had the surgery yet so he is technically still a he. He did start taking medicines/hormones or whatever you take to become a woman.
So...despite that picture and the article I plan to go see V for Vendetta tomorrow...anyone else planning to go?
I refuse to go see this movie of terrorism advocation. We should not be watching movies like this!...
From this article:

Um, sure. If you say so.
That quote was inaccurate anyway. A transvestite is a man who wants to wear women's clothing while a transexual is a man who wants to be a woman or is in the process of changing into one.
