CAGiversary!
Because of some interesting circumstances surround my change of jobs, it turns out I have two or three weeks off in between.

My original start date for my new job WAS May 27th, but that got pushed back to June 9th at the earliest, or June 16th at the latest. Either way, I already told my current boss that this Friday would be my last day.

So I have two options:
(1) Stop working this Friday and take a full 2 or 3 weeks off.

Just stay away from the crazies.

While I don't golf, The Quail Hollow Club golf course is pretty popular here in Charlotte, NC. They hold the Wachovia Championship there and is very much liked by professional golfers. Since I'm not a golfer, I don't know many other specific courses but I believe there are some more around here and in South Carolina.

That's ok. She knows jack shit about anything outside of her ten-foot circle, yet comments on fucking everything.

Wilmington, NC. It's not even open to discussion.

Where to begin....

Jekyll Island or St. Simon's Island off the coast of Georgia: great beaches, food, and golf.
Myrtle Beach, Charleston, Wilmington, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Tampa, St. Augustine.

Oh, and I hear New Orleans is beautiful this time of year. :p

Heck, if you come anywhere near Mobile, AL, shoot me a PM and maybe we could grab lunch. I know some good eats around here. Maybe zman73 could join us; he's the only other Mobile CAG I know of.

If I were you I'd go to Bermuda. It's not the U.S. but it might as well be. It's really nice and quite relaxing.

If you have to stick with the U.S. I'd go with Hilton Head.

What is in Myrtle Beach? I've heard it mentioned alot but always kinda thought it was for like old couples or something...I dunno why.

Is Hilton head just a really nice golf course/resort? Is it on the coast and is there diving/snorkling there?

Myrtle Beach is the redneck destination spot. We're heading back there in September, just because we have a rental we've paid off.

Hilton Head has plenty of shopping, golf and attractions. I doubt there is much in the way of snorkling there, as at least in Savannah there are quite a few sharks off the coast.

If that is your primary goal, you either need to stay north, or go to the Keys.

You should hutch hike to Michigan and get mugged by the Detroit Mayor. Now that is an awesome vacation. Seriously though, I have heard great things about Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head. I would go there.

Two things:

(1) Can I fix the title of this thread, and add the missing "a" in "vacation" or does a mod have to do it?

(2) Do you get a BJ from Paris Hilton at Hilton Head? Get it? Eh? Ehhhhh?

(3) Where is a good place to go to get whores in Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach? I'm definitely into pickin up some cheap hookers.

Don't forget the bikers, drunks and idiot high school kids.

I've waited for this thread to die down somewhat so I wasnt hijacking it, but Im moving to Morgantown in August. So what are some fun things to do in Pittsburgh? I heard of a restaurant where they put whole potatoes on a normal sandwich but thats about it.......

We're going to Orlando in July ^_^

Actually this is what we're doing and since you don't live that far from me, it could be ideal for you to. We are driving down. It'll take 2 days to get there and 2 days to come back + spending 6 (or 7 I forget) days there.

It's really not that expensive. Going to mainly go to Universal Studios, but hittin up Sea World and that brand spankin new waterpark, Aquatica. Look it up. It looks AMAZING. A 7 day pass for Sea World AND Aquatica (together) is $80 a person. Universal Studios + Islands of Avdneture is ALSO $80 for a 7 day park pass. So for the 2 of us, we spent $320 for a week at 4 parks. It's really not bad, IMO.

Seriously, look up Aquatica in Orlando Florida. That looks SO awesome!

I can't really help with the trip planning (the furthest south I have been is Memphis), but you can edit your title.

Click edit on your original post, and then click "Go Advanced" at the bottom of the post. That will allow you to change the title.

I spent four years in Morgantown (1998-2002). There's not a ton to do there, and I wasn't a huge fan of Pittsburgh either.

There's some good touristy stuff--the Zoo, the museum at Carnegie-Mellon (best dinosaur collection I've seen) etc. Was severely lacking in good brew pubs or restaurants with huge beer selections--but that may not bother you if you're not a beer snob like me!

PNC park is a great baseball stadium if you're into that.

As far as the Morgantown area, Cooper's Rock is a nice place to hike/picnic, and there are a ton of great state parks in WV that you can drive to. WV is great for outdoors stuff, but there's not much else to do (I lived there for 23 years).

How about the Smokey Mountains? Stay in Gatlinburg. It seems like you are interested in outdoor activities and there are plenty of outdoor activities w/in the Smokey Mountains.

I spent the last 5 years in Savannah. Nice place to visit for a day or two. I frequently went to Hilton Head as well. GREAT if you are big in to golf. Not so great if you don't like golf. The beach is kind of meh. Tybee Island is close to that area as well, and again, the beach is "meh" at best.

The beaches in the gulf seem to be much better than those on the Atlantic side of things.

I also agree that the Smokies/Gatlinburg/Chattanooga could be nice if you like outdoors type stuff. I go for the Civil War history aspect.

The potential for outdoor activities in Morgantown definitely seems like it will take up most of my time. The rail trail system seems extensive enough for running, bikeriding, not to mention the pistol ranges dotted across WV. Do you have any suggestions for State Parks near Morgantown?

And I believe a new brewery company just opened up in Morgantown, but I maybe wrong. Thanks for the suggestions in Pittsburgh. Carnegie-Mellon will likely be awesome.

And to the OP, I second Savannah, Georgia. Its a great place.

Have to agree with all of this. Lived in Savannah for 12 years, and it can be pretty dull.

No problem strayfoxx. The sandwhich you're talking about is from a restaurant called Primanti Bros'. It's bomb. They put slaw and fries on everything.

You should definitely check out all three sporting events. Go to a Penguins game, a Pirates game at #1ranked most beautiful PNC Park, go check out the Steelers kick ass at Heinz field too.

YOu may want to check out the point, there used to be a french fort there in rev. war times. There are inclines, which are like trolley cars on crack that climb way more vertically than they do horizontally. The view is so cool, that coupled with a dinner at "Monterey Bay" it makes the best date you could ever have; I like to call that date "The Panty Dropper." The incline is only like $2 so the date isn't even that expensive except for dinner.

For drinking/dancing there are four main areas:

1. Strip district (older crowd, can be yuppyish, pricey drinks, classy clubs)
2. Oakland (hard core college area, cheap drinks, dirt floors, puke in bathrooms, easy co-eds)
3. Shady Side (grad school crowd mixed w/ college, a little more pricey than oakland, quite liberal, good food and drink).
4. Southside, a couple mile-long strip of nothing but bars, pizza, bars, tattoo parlors, and more bars. They range from 50 year old places frequented by retired steel workers and union boys, to trance dance clubs to chill college bars, sports bars, you name it).

WHen you get here, take a "Just Ducky" tour, you get to ride in a WWII amphibious APC, and learn alot about the city and it's history. This city is also FULL of fantastic museums: the Carnegie Musuem of Art and Natural History is pretty cool, and a dirt cheap thing to do. If you're into theatre (not movies, like plays), thats pretty big here, as there are venues downtown like "The Benedum Center" and in the S.Side like "City Theatre" on Bingham St.

Oh and if you like bridges, you'll like Pgh, we have more than ANY other city in the entire WORLD (except Venice but c'mon, thats not even fuckin fair).

I was there less than a year ago. Ever heard of "Tail of the dragon"? Yeah...I slayed that shit on a BMW K1200RS. I kept all my parts off of the tree of shame too, thank G-d. I had no idea what the Smokey mountains were. I knew "OF" them but had no idea how beautiful and big and dense (and beautiful, did I say that already) they were. We stayed in Cherokee, which is right where NC, SC, TN, and some other state come together IIRC.

Dmaul I've been to M-town a dozen times or so. Every fucking time, without exception, I had one of the best times of my life...well, my college life at least. The people there (that I knew) were a fuckin blast. I had friends from HS down there when I wentn to Pitt, so I went down there for some shows, some football, and lots of partying. Who knows, maybe I stood next to you inline for nitrous shots once or twice, lol.

Thanks pittpizza, I saved what you wrote in a word document for later...

One of my favorite bands--Slim Cessnas Auto Club--is playing at Club Cafe on June 3rd. You ever been there?

"(except Venice but c'mon, thats not even in fair)." :)

Coopers rock is the best that's close. Blackwater Falls is a nice waterfall, but it's a couple hours away.

West Virginia Brewing Company has been open for years. It's ok, but the problem is state law in WV limits all beers to 6% ABV or lower, so that really hurts the selection at brew pubs as well as the available imports and microbrews since most of my favorites are over 6%.

Yeah, Mo-town was a super fun place to go to undergrad for sure. And with that, I have to throw in the obligatory "East Shit Pitt!!". Especially after our choke job last year. :(

Coming from Alabama and being well traveled, there's plenty of things to do in the Southeast for a week.

If you're looking for the beach...

Gulf Shores and Pensacola both have very nice beaches (and fantastic food!). I like both of them since they're less commercialized than the more "popular" places (say Panama City and Destin). I haven't gone scuba diving in Pensacola yet, but I hear there's some pretty good dives right off the coast and in the bay too. Savannah/St. Tybee's Island are also very good locations to visit, there's a lot of cool history in that area of Georgia, although the beaches actually on the Gulf will be a lot nicer.

If you're looking for more "woodsy" stuff...

There's plenty of places in Tennessee along the Appalachian mountain range where you can hang out. There's camping, back packing, lazy/whitewater rivers, plenty of stuff to do and chill out. Helen, Georgia is also a pretty cool place to visit as well although I don't really know how expensive it is.

If you're more into touristy type stuff, Orlando.
