Valkyria Chronicles $20 at GameStop NEW
I never order from Gamestop.com but do their game come open like how they sell it at their store? I hated when I buy a new game, they usually give me an open one and put it into a case and sell it at new.
I'd like to know this as well.
I'd like to know this as well.
I basically summed it up in my post above. I think they always do that. The employees always had a disc that wasn't in the original case with wrapping and marked it as new. It might even have a scratch or dust, etc and they would still market it new.

Kind of pathetic when you think about it. Hate Gamestop.

It's shrink wrapped, so you never know.

I bet employees take the "New" games and play it themselves, and these discs are sold as "new" to customers.
I'm tempted to buy this even though I don't have a PS3...
You'll appreciate the investment if/when you do pick up a PSTripple.

My personal GoTY for 2008.

Last time I ordered a game from GameStop.com it was Street Fighter IV and it came with a broken case(with the seal broken as well) because they packaged it really poorly and as cheaply as possible.

I know what you mean. Crisis Core (FF) is being sold at $10 and I don't have a PSP anymore. Maybe I guess I might get one again in the future? Hmm

New right?
How much did they sell it to you for?

I actually ordered Valkyria Chronicles from GameStop last week with the same promo, the case came broken. I have no clue how they are like the #1 game retailer... they suck pretty hard.

I swapped the case with a PS3 game I'm trading in to Amazon, I hope they don't care.

You used the BEMERRY coupon and ordered the game for a total of around $19, right?
I'm skeptical now because I'm planning on ordering very soon.

I've ordered new and used ps3 games. Luckily all came in excellent condition. New items were new in the wrapper. Ps2 games are another story...they looked like shit! They came scratched up with messed up cases, mostly no cover art and all with no manual. I should have returned them. I tried to trade one in recently and they tried to charge me a refurb fee....the game was in the exact condition I recieved it.

I bought Valkyria Chronicles from Gamestop with the BEMERRY coupon. Mine was fine. Something did raise an eyebrow though. That is, the case doesn't have the etched "Playstation 3" at the top (which my MGS4 game does). It only has the bluray symbol w/ the words etched. I hope this is only because this is the new cases they're using. Other than that, it was sealed properly and everything.

P.S. - the thing is, these PS3 cases are so weak and fragile, especially when you compare them with the PS2 cases. Also, I bought Ninja Gaiden Sigma (PS3) from Newegg and part of the case was broken during shipment. FRAGILE!

Ordered a week ago. The shrinkwrap looks legit, same as other new PS3 games. The case looks OK, although there was a tiny plastic sliver floating around under the shrinkwrap, which appears to have come from the side of the case near one of the snaps. What they do to their games, I dunno - maybe it's just that the PS3 cases are fragile (as someone else here said) combined with them shipping it in a thin plastic (somewhat padded) express shipping envelope, rather than the brown paper bubble envelopes that Newegg uses.

And let's search next time, shall we?
I assume a merge is pending.

...and the total depends on your state tax: some may be less than $19.25, some more.

I've never had a problem with new games ordered from the Gamestop website. I almost completely refuse to buy "new" titles at the retail spots, though.

That's when I would've brought the order slip with me into the Gamestop that tried charging a fee and punched the clerk trying to charge a fee with it in the face.

I too gotta wonder how the fuck they're the #1 game retailer in the country with the shit condition stuff they try and pass off on people.

Then again, it goes back to the average customer of theirs. You have either the Joe Football idiots(if you don't pre-order Madden Eleventy Billion you'll NEVER find it anywhere), the stupid soccer moms with lil brats in tow or the idiot relatives of the above two groups of customers who buy games without knowing what they're buying. If those three groups stopped shopping at Gamestop, they'd go outta biz in a week.:)

i actually have a copy of this game somewhere.....
i think someone stole it.
if this drops any lower im going to have to replace instead of interrogate friends and family.

As for the PS3 games, they have a coating on blu-ray discs that protects it from scratches. You can wipe off most anything. Now the PS2 games are a different story. Usually GS.com sells used PS2 games that were sent back defective from B&M GS stores and they "resurface" them, usually very poorly, and the game is then sold as used again. That is why I avoid used PS2 games from the site and buy in store so I can check the condition and completeness of the game myself before I buy it.

I personally thought the game was innovative and starts out fun, but like too many tactical RPGs gets WAY too hard. Gave up partway through. Avoid if that's the case for you too.

Really?!? I found this game to be a bit easy as far as TBS (I call them turn-based strategy games) difficulty goes. It's still hard, but if you learn from your mistakes it should only take a few tries per outing.

Agreed! Best stay away from Fire Emblem games then!

I am not sure about the shrink wrapping and what not, but this is a very good game if you like Strategy/RTS games at all. I though it was pretty innovative, and the graphics, story and characters are well done.

I picked it up a while ago at a GameStop sale for 29.99 I think. It was worth it then, and is definitely worth $20.

I thought the game had a good difficulty until the first "boss" fight and I had no problems with the difficulty of Fire Emblem DS. At least that game didn't get frustrating.

I still think VC is worth the price though.
Agreed! Best stay away from Fire Emblem games then!
I had no problems with the Gamecube one, but *HATED* the DS one.

ps3 owners should have this game, great price. Of course if you dont like turn based games, no, but it is simpley one of the best of its kind. Looks great, playes great and is fun. Difficulty was about average IMHO, little tough later in game depending on your playstyle (im a guns blazing person, worked well till about 3/4s through, had to change to a more slow paced cover fighting sytle).

cant say enouhg good about this game.

I'm interested, but am really hot/cold with TRPG/RTS.

I enjoyed the Advance Wars and Fire Emblem games but hated Final Fantasy Tactics, C&C, etc.

Can anyone talk more about the gameplay?

I enjoy valkyria chronicles so far. It's has real time elements and turn-based elements. Generally, I dislike turn-based games like Final Fantasy Tactics, because it's so slow and takes so long. Valkyria Chronicles doesn't feel that way.

The main thing I dislike about Valkyria Chronicles is the excessive "cutscenes". It's not as bad as Metal Gear Solid 4, but I want to play the game when I'm playing a game!

Another issue would be that later levels require some extent of trial and error, because the player isn't educated enough about what the obstacles are or how to approach the fight against the enemy. I wouldn't hate this so much if there was just a "restart level" button somewhere in the menu. However, it does allow you to save at practically anytime.

Other than that... You know, the best thing I can recommend is to try the demo. After seeing trailers and videos, I wasn't sold on Valkyria Chronicles when it was released. But after trying it, even with the simplistic battles, I actually enjoy it. The game's appeal in my opinion is the strategic element and my perception of the characters in my battalion almost like my pokemons.

I liked the demo, but it doesn't get too hard until way later.

It does have tons of story, but it's pretty good. Not Sakaguchi/Metal Gear good, but it's fine IMO.
Don't miss out on the Second Best Reason to own a PS3! (The FIRST is Demon's Souls, but you already knew that!)
really that good?
Cool!

Yeah, I bought the Ar Tonelico II premium pak from them "new" not only was it opened, but the douche putting the game in scratched it while moving it from the sleeve to the case. Ugh! It was cheaper than what you pay for on ebay but man, it irked me.

will never buy new games from gamestop again.

in fact, given my PS2 collection is done (i only needed 2 more and I nabbed those off ebay), I don't think I ever need to step foot in a Gamestop anymore).

Gamestop is on my shortlist of stores I never shop at. (1) Walmart, (2) Gamestop ... that's my list.

I'm not interested in the deal, as I already own this game. I just wanted to swing by and say that this game is a must own for a PS3 owner. I own two PS3 games. This and MGS4.

For 20 bucks this game is a steal. I was thinking about waiting, but I really thought this game would have been one of those that just disappeared off the face of the earth before it hit 20 bucks. So I picked it up for 40, and it was definitely worth it.

I have it in my cart with BEMERRY for a total of about $19 after shipping/taxes.

Idk if I want to go through with it because I just got a bunch of games over BF.
I guess GameStop.com can be trusted to ship sealed copies after all (mine was).
Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I don't want to buy a "new" game from Gamestop unless it isn't factory sealed.
really that good?
Cool!
Yep. Really wish this game got a better marketing push, it flew under the radar for the longest time.
Mine was factory sealed also.
Online, right?

I might go for it if more and more people say that games they get from Gamestop through online are factory sealed.

Make the jump man! It's worth it! Save it for later if you want!

I guess Gamestop just does that in-store then.

i just wanted to say that i already own this game and it is awesome... i also think it's a must own for ps3 owners, especially at $20. like someone else said, i was afraid this was going to disappear off the face of the earth (and only be available on ebay or something) and bought it when it went on sale earlier in the year for $30. totally worth it... amazing deal at $20 but play the demo if you're not sure. no matter how cheap a game is, if you aren't going to play it, it can still be a waste.

just got my 2nd copy(1st is a PAL).
Order Total: $19.59

ty for the code OP!

You think this game is worth buying a third time (lol)?
Bought it at full msrp; loved it, traded it (kinda regret it).
Bought it again used; played it again (still need to dl the dlc)
Should I buy it a third time just for collection purposes?
