Does anyone have anything positive to say about the company?

For the past 4 months I've been trying to get them to come out here and install internet and cable. They keep cancelling because of slight rain and other reasons. They let someone use my mom's identity so she has had to provide a crapload and half of paperwork for them and pay off the account the other person used. They're in the middle of processing everything, apparently, and will give her a call once it's all done.

Should we just head over to Cox or something? I don't exactly know why we're going through all the hassle for this when, on top of this, it's been said that their customer service is a nightmare. God forbid anything malfunctions after they install.

Is it worth the hassle?

I'd get it, along with a TiVo. They don't flag any of their channels, so you can transfer recordings freely.

What do you mean, exactly?
What do you mean, exactly?
FIOS doesn't require you to use their DVR, unlike what you have with AT&T UVerse. You can get a Tivo and a CableCard and be able to watch any shows without the need of the Verizon DVR.

The "they don't flag any of their channels" comment is that there's a bit flag that can be set on content that the Tivo recognizes as "Do Not Copy", which would prevent you from copying it to your PC to burn to DVD/BR, or from copying it between Tivo units if you have more than one.
