VHS Tapes: What to Do?

Stryffe2004

CAGiversary!
I have a decent collection of VHS tapes. thing is, I have them boxed up and don't anticipate ever watching them again. Should I sell them? Most if not all of the movies, etc. are available on DVD.

Are there tapes out there that are going to be worth something in the future? I have several of the Star Wars sets (Widescreen original and Widescren Special Edition) or should I just let them go at the next yard sale.

Any thoughts?

Just think about how much old 8-track and cassette tapes are worth now, and apply that to VHS in ten years.

You could always buy a dvd burner/vhs combo and burn all of your old movies to dvd. Or get a friend to do it. I only have a few VHS tapes that I care about, so that's probably what I'll do once I get off my lazy ass to do it. And of course that's only for the VHS tapes that aren't worth owning on DVD.

Ive probably got 400 vhs. I plan to just keep them. I think the only way I would sell them is if someone wanted to buy them all at once. If you sell them individually you will end up with a bunch of real crappy vhs.

I was thinking about cassettes and such. They are not sought after just because their successor (CDs, DVDs, etc) are so much better. Laserdics are old, but I guess they still hold some value because they can do things like a DVD. May hold on to Star Wars and sell all of the anime etc.

out of curiosity, can anyone link me to a good vhs to dvd converter? I want to save a whole bunch of my old tapes onto dvds.

It depends on what tapes you have. WWF tapes fetch decent money because newer releases that include old footage have the old WWF logos blurred out.

You should try listing them on a tradelst here. You never know. I sold some Jackie Chan VHS here before. I was just glad to send them to someone who wanted them. Even if you only make a little, you can build up feedback if you decide to make use of the trading forum in the future.

Probably the best bet would be to take the time and check a few sites to make sure that most if not all of them are on DVD. I know there are some movies that are still only available on VHS. Also check to make sure the value of them too. Like GuilewasNK said, some may be worth some money. And yes, hold on to the Star Wars ones.

Here's another idea on what to do with the old tapes:

I've been wondering the same thing. All I really have are some old wrestling tapes though, it's my parents who have the gold mine of VHS.

Quick question, if I did buy a VHS to DVD recorder, if I record say 4 tapes on one DVD is it possible to make a menu and select which movie to watch or would I have to fast-forward through the first 3 movies to get to the last one?

That's a sweet idea. It'd be fucking impenetrable.
