CAGiversary!
To me, there is one game that fits this topic perfectly. State of Emergency.
Ok, it's kind of old, but it's absolutely halarious how this game is constantly named the worst game ever made. It's far from that. However, after winning all the E3 awards, and then GTA III coming out of no where to spawn the biggest franchise of the generation, SOE was hyped beyond measure, and couldn't live to it. What's funny is that, for years, when I had non or light gaming friends come over, I would pop that game on (usually the last clone standing which you take a gun and shoot everything that moves), and people absoulutely loved it. They were shocked when I said this was constantly called the worst.
So, here is my nomination for a game ruined by hype.
