Victorious Boxers 2 Available Now $9.99
Honestly, I've tried about 15 times to beat this guy now, and I'm about to give up and just list the game on Ebay. If I'm struggling this much on the third damn fight I don't think I'll be having more fun with fights later in the game.
What setting do you have it on? I was able to beat the game on easy and normal. I'm stuck on the second to last fight on hard on the last chapter.
The game is that hard, just on the 3rd fight?
With no tutorial, a paper thin manual, and the fact the game moves at an insanely fast speed the game kicked my ass repeatedly. I've played hard games before, but I didn't feel like it was my fault for losing in this one, rather I was at a huge disadvantage. Some of the replies in this thread have just convinced me of that.

I have the game on Normal, for what it's worth.

I did end up beating this guy by putting the controller on my lap, and just hitting the two hook butons. That's it. I mashed two buttons and won. I also used this same technique to beat the next two games too.

Then I fought some guy who's special move was throwing 1000 punches in a row, and it's the only move he did, so I gave up.

This, coupled with some other annoyances I listed (such as not knowing how much damage you've done) means I'm pretty much done with this game. I gave it a fair shot, at least 3 hours worth (if not more) but if I'm this frustrated with the beginning levels I'm not going to torture myself and play it all the way through.

Sure, I could beat the game on normal if I wanted to put forth the effort, but I don't. The game was cheap, but my free time is worth more.

My order from familyvideo still havent arrived yet (ordered back on Nov 16)... but after reading the problems with it, I'm not sure if I want this game any more.

For those who have played the first game, would playing that first make this one better? Or should I just play the first and forget about this one?

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays!

The only thing VB2 has over the first is more characters to choose from, better graphics (except some character models look kind of goofy), and a better fighting system (to me anyways). I say if you haven't played the first then go for the first VB because it has tutorials and a training mode so you could get a hang of the fighting system.

Ok, my impressions on the game at first were a little disappointed and confused. But after a couple hours, I began to love the game. Mind you, I haven't touched other boxing games like Fight Night or even VB1. At first I thought the controls were extremely bad, but after switching L2 to sway control, the game just became a cinch to play. To learn the game, I would just advise you to either play easy or with a friend and experiment with the different punches.

I admit, at first the game was frustrating to pick up. But after playing with my little brother who's only 12 years old, the game began to pick up. With this game, you have to be willing to give it a chance, the learning curve isn't exactly the easiest.

I would agree with thoughts that this game isn't the best. But cowmon, it's onlly $10. However, I think this has been the most "fun" I have had with a boxing game. Fight Night for 360 didn't seem as fun when I tried it out in stores, maybe I didn't give it enough time. But, I would definitely regard this as genuine fun, though it requires some patience in learning the game through trial and error, considering the manual is crap. Why today, I just played through the whole game on Normal, and not once was I bored with it.

Only complaint about this game would be the abusive characters. But it's not that bad if you actually know what you're doing in the game and each characters advantages and disadvantages.

The hit detection and not knowing how much damage is done is not that bad for me. I personally like not having meters and evidence of damage/fatigue. It just makes the game much more spontaneous. Though I'm sure KO's are not random, you have to take into account accuracy/momentum in the shots. In real life, I'm sure no boxer knows exactly which punch will knock him out, much like how this game emulates.

All in all, I would highly recommend this game to anyone, especially with it's $10 price tag.

I played through that game and I loved it. I am a big fan of the series and I enjoyed the first game, VB1 as well...

For Christmas I got a copy of the JPN version of Hajime No Ippo 2: Victorious Road for the PS2... it's freakin' AWESOME. It's so much more in depth/difficult than VB1 or VB2(which is really Hajime No Ippo: All-Stars)... and the best part of it all it features some real life boxers and some boxers we all know and love. Obviously they're not named after their real personas due to licensing.... but in the game you see some big name boxers such as Jack Dempsey, Muhammad Ali, among others.... the best part of it all, most of the boxers from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! and Super Punch-Out!! are in it as well!

Add the fact that there is the "Boxer's Road" career mode, and you have the most in depth boxing game/simulation ever made. I am so happy with it.

Well, had another test run with the game. This time with a friend who these days does not touch video games as much and has never played a boxing game. I basically tell him the control setup [with L2 set to Sway control] and he picks up the game very quickly. I'm not sure if either he is quick to pick up on any game, but from this, I could tell that the game is not too difficult to pick up. He was already on par with my little brother, who's only 12. Definitely, swapping L2 for sway makes the game ten times more fun and easier.

Unfortunately, the only gripe about this game is that there are no stats for each boxer and some boxers are godly compared to others despite being in the same weight class. Though of course there are tier rankings for characters in all other vs games. But as long as the boxers are close in terms of level, the matches are totally fair and legitimate. There was barely any yelling of "hey, that was cheap!". There is also a handicap to even the playing field as well.

I highly recommend this game to anyone. My friend loved the game and if you want something similar to the feeling when playing rockem sockem robots as you were a kid, this game is definitely it. Though, it's not that simple and straightforward, it's great, make that excellent, for anyone, even for the basic and more advanced players.

Truthfully though, I had another friend who wasn't into it. However, despite him being an anime nerd of nerds, he just didn't really like it. But he is definitely considered an "outcast", in our circle of trust. Maybe it's just because he's into Gundams and wants to play Gundam games... which I personally think suck hardcore.

But I seriously can't deny the fun that is VB2. Nothing like conquering a friend with a Dempsey Roll to the temple and hearing the loud thud as the opponent falls to the floor and my friend says "OH SHIET!"

Bah!
I received my copy of "Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting!" (GBA) today from eBay, with the manual and box. Unfortunately, upon closer inspection, the cart was a clear bootleg. The "Game Boy Advance" logo above the label uses the wrong font, the Nintendo logo and cart info on the back uses the wrong font and is missing the words "Pat. Pending Made in Japan," and the box and instruction manual have a washed out, blurry look. Of course, there are no numbers imprinted in the label, and nothing written above the cartridge contacts. Worst of all, it doesn't hold a save, even for a few seconds after the power is off.

I bought that game the same day that I picked up Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. Man that game is awsome for only $9.99! If you can find it, get it! Don't let it slip through you fingers just like the US version Castle Shikigami 2!

I was so excited when I first heard this game was being ported to the U.S. consoles. Finally I could play as Takamura and totally dominate anything or anyone.

I waited for weeks for this game to show up in gamestop or EB, but to my dissapointement, every time I went to an EB or gamestop, they didn't carry it. This became really annoying...eventually I realized that I could get a free shipping code from CAG and just buy the thing online. Sure I'd have to wait a bit to get it, but this time it was a sure thing.

So I finally get the game, but I can't play, cause I have to work my but off to finish the quarter in school. Instead I stared at the box still in the wrapper, thinking to myself how much I wanted to play it while studying for finals. Eventually school let out and I was finally ready to rip into the game.

Dissapointment struck me as I couldn't figure out how to play the damn thing right. I kept losing in the first couple of matches, and I stopped playing for a few days. I started up again, and then I finally caught on. BTW knowing the anime and the manga for Ippo is really helpful in attacking the opponents at their weaknesses. It's also helpful in gaining knowldge about your own character's strengths. I like the fact that they make you tired after a while if you keep using special moves and miss (except for Hayami, who never gets tired after using his special like 5 billion times). It also helps to know the basic mechanics of boxing, such as if you miss, it makes you more tired than if you hit the guy, and the bigger the shot you miss, the more tired you'll be.

All in all, it was a really fun game. I beat it on normal, and it has revamped my love for the Ippo franchise. I definatly recommend this game to people who arent afraid of trying something new. I haven't played fight night, but I'm sure it won't give me my fanboy fix that I got from VB2.

no thanks to gamecrazy,I prepaid for this and they have not gotten it in yet.I found it at Toys R US for 4.98. If you are still looking, they are hard to come by in the BnM and I saw one copy at TRU in Concord. I plan on getting my deposit back from GameCRAPPY.

Heh ya. Castle Shikigami 2 was a great game. Damn good! I wanna buy a 2nd copy as a gift, but I can't even find a 2nd copy.

I wish they had brought over HnI2 from Japan. Apparently that was the one with bonus boxers from Punch-Out!! (and I think the real world as well). I'll probably break down and import it eventually (though it would be nice to wait for a copy of the LE version).

How the heck do you beat Date at the end of Act I? I tried and tried but keep getting knocked around. In fact, I have yet to knock him down once....

Just use left and right hook body shots. You can pretty much take anyone down with Ippo's body shots. Thats how I got through most of the matches.
Damn, 24 pages. I'm guessing this is worth the $4.98 at Toys "R" Us then?
every penny.
I abused the heck out of sway left, left hook... lol.

That and just waiting for range opportunities...
I abused the hell out of body uppercut infinites.

*stun* *stun* *stun* *stun* *OOF!*
Thanks.... I can't seem to do body shots every well.... time to hit the gym.
Change one of your shoulder buttons to sway. If you did... then... I guess you should practice more???

Is the first rare/collectable/hard to find? It seems like if the original game is loved so much, it should be worth something causing this release to be a bit low on the pricing. I wonder if I should look for the original...

I changed it and managed to stay in the ring for abit longer. Still cannot knock Date down. Every once in awhile I manage to do a few combos but he always seem to hit me. Guess I need to practice more (maybe I don't hit his body enough).

Ya keep trying to hit his body, if you play enough, you can pretty much feel when they'll attack and move out of the way. I hope you beat him.

I got discouraged this weekend, I will try again. Ippo Balboa, here I come!

Sucks, checked Toys R Us for it... not there. Oh well, I got something else instead!

Went to the Sunnyvale Fry's on Saturday to pick up Bard's Tale for $8 and I saw a copy of Victorious Boxers 2 buried in that pile of $20 games that they put in the middle of the video game section. So I picked both games up. I remember seeing two more copies in there, so heads up for anyone in the Bay Area that wants it.
