CAGiversary!
So of course my fiance, being the female that she is, wanted to register at Williams Sonoma, or the Pottery Barn, or Bed Bath and Beyond for our wedding registry. After much effort, we compromised (and I won) and we are going to register at.......

TARGET!!!

Admittedly, Target isn't the best but it is a hell of a lot better (for me) than those other places. AND THEY HAVE VIDEOGAMES.

What would you get? You think I should register for a PS3 (already have 360 and Wii) or should I just register for some games/periph?

Good luck with getting anything videogame related on the registry.

Target is actually a good place to get registered at. There are lots of them and a lot of their stuff isn't too bad.

Why not register for a PS3? You probably won't get it, but you have better odds than random Wii or 360 titles.

CAG's, assemble!

i haven't had to buy a lot of wedding presents for people, but aren't you supposed to register for stuff that you'll both use as a couple?

Will your wife use the PS3?

He's right. You'd better register for a PS3 and another controller incase she wants to play :D

You do realize after your so called "Victory" you just signed your soul away dont you? ....She owns your now, Leather straps and dog collars are likely in your future.

LOL. Well said. Didn't think of it that way!
She owns your now, Leather straps and dog collars are likely in your future.
That doesn't make it sound so bad, actually. ;)

OOOhhhhh, Nice one whoknows!! I LMAO.

B machine is sort of right though, one is "supposed" to register for stuff you'll both use as a couple. I think what will happen is that we will have to return some stuff for store credit. And who knows what will happen with that credit????:whistle2:k

Well does she like games at all? You could certainly play games together. I wonder if gamestop does wedding registries.

Yes, because that's what friends should buy someone for a wedding, video games....

Am I the only one who thinks the whole "register" thing with weddings is ridiculous?

No VG I agree with you. It's just that registering at Williams Sonoma for plates and silverware and table clothes is much MORE ridiculous than registering at Target.

Well there is one advantage, if you only register at one place, you'll probably only have to go to one store to return something. Unless someone gets you something from somewhere else of course.

...(waits for OP to realize the idiocy of what he just said)...

But, registering at WS for cookware is a fabulous idea.

Plates and other serveware? Try a Bed, Bath and Beyond or Linens and Things.

Target is an awesome place because of the variety of things there. You can cover lots of necessities and since theres literally a Target everywhere, all your wedding guests will have no trouble finding things. I say why not put a PS3 on the list. I'd even put a couple TVs on there as well. You never know whom of your older relatives have money to burn. I was amazed at all the stuff my brother got at his wedding.

This also reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Bart threw a fake wedding to get all the registry gifts... :whistle2:k

I like your idea op; just register at one store. I now plan on locking everybody into getting me stuff from sharper image.:D
Some people buy some pretty expensive wedding gifts, I think he has a pretty good shot.
he can always return gifts to target and use the Cred to get his ps3
You do realize that NO ONE is going to buy you a PS3 from your registry, right?
I wouldn't say that. I have bought some pretty expensive wedding gifts for my very close friends and family. A PS3 is not out of the question if you ask me. The groom should be able to get something that he would like as well. :D

There is always a chance, as long as your bride-to-be is cool with it, why not?
Wedding gifts are not cheap. I remember spending far, far too much on place settings for my brother and his wife. I would have preferred to buy them something they'd actually get some entertainment out of.
Well there is one advantage, if you only register at one place, you'll probably only have to go to one store to return something. Unless someone gets you something from somewhere else of course.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! You haven't had a wedding yet. Only about half the people will actually buy from the registry. The rest will get you some horrifically bad gift, and you'll spend time at service counters showing workers the skew number and seeing if they can identify it.

We registered at Target, and it was great. Got all the towels, sheets, etc. we needed, plus some fun stuff like a nice set of poker chips with cards in a carrier, a dart board. You may find the guys who stand up for you WILL pitch in and buy a PS3. Just make sure to toss some games for your wife in there.

Well we went. It was pretty fun, they gave us a scanner gun and we just took our list and kind of went crazy. Some stuff we got was cook/bake ware, a blender, an air-mattress and cooler but NO videogames.

She would be embarassed to have a PS3 on the registry b/c she thinks videogames are "childish, immature, not productive, not family focused." Plus it would be a gift totally for me and not for her at all (she never ever plays, ever, even shovelware wii shit).

So perhaps a good compromise would be to lemme hold a certain amount of the return credit for some 360 or Wii games/periphs. This thread has made me reflect a little bit on whether I would really even want a PS3. I'd like the blu ray and a few of their games but as it is w/ two curent gen consoles I don't have the time/cash to buy and play every game I'd like; so I'll sit pretty w/ the Wiisixty combo for a while, probably until the PS4, xbox1080 and Nintendo Who-the-fuck-knows comes out.

Oh heres a juicy bit: We're gonna register for a surround sound system. Any of you cheapasses find anything worth buying on www.target.com?

Lemme ask you, do you think I could try to fineagle a :br: system? I didn't think to look while I was there and it is...**OSTENSIBLY**...something that is for "both of us." http://www.target.com/Sony-Blu-ray-...8518?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k:blu-ray&page=1 :drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

BTW, it may sound selfish, and it is quite "kid-in-a-candy-storeish", but how cool would it be if I could just take that gun and go fuckin apeshit in the electronics and videogames and toys and camping parts of Target. About 90% of the stuff we got was for the kitchen or bathroom. I know I know I know it's improper and quite pretentious to do that, but some brides/grooms include a honeymoon fund as a possible gift and IMO thats even worse.

I'm goin on and on but keep reading stuff, whoever it was that said that most people don't even get you gifts off the registry, I've heard that too and pretty much expect it. Remember Ralphie's pink bunny suit from his aunt? I have plenty of aunt's like his.

Think Sound of Music:

Scented votives and towells and yellow colored vases, these are a few of my favorite things.

Dude if you still need to make another go around with the scanner just scan the PS3 when shes not looking. Or print out the PS3 UPC and do a quick scan out of your pocket! Come on! Aren't you already getting free wedding pictures?

For my bro's wedding they were registered at Bed Bath and Beyond. They got so much stuff from there and some people didn't even bother taking it out of the Bed Bath and Beyond bags.
No offense, but she sounds like a bitch.

Lol, none taken! Seriously when it comes to vid games, she is. She Hates how much I game. I dunno if it's just that my time is better spent doing other things, or that it takes some of my attention and time away from her, but probably a healthy combination of both. I doubt I'm the only CAG whose gf/fiance/wife hates video games.

Courageous, I don't really know what to expect, maybe about two thirds of the gifts will be from Target, it is so easy for everyone to get to as they're everywhere. Generally I like target, they have some good deals, it's close, and perhaps most important for registry purposes, they have great return policies. BB&Beyond sucks my balls. fuck YOUR LOOFAH!

I can see it now...

Pitts fiance: Honey...come to bed

Pitt: Hold on, Im tottaly getting laid by this hot blue alien chick

Pitts fiance: .......are....are you cheating on me with a video game?

Pitt: ...........Ummm.......

Pitts fiance: I think we need to talk about this

Pitt: But...But i got an achievement! does that mean nothing to you?!

actually targets return policy sucks balls now.
you cannot return any item over $20 without a receipt. and you can only return an item under $20 twice in a rolling calender year.
i found this out trying to return 4 items my daughter got for xmas.
all i wanted to do was exchange them for the proper size, it was a no-go.
apparently its a corporate policy.

my wife used to spend $4-500 a month there on crazy shit. since that episode very little shopping is done there.

we registered there, and one or two other places, i dont remember where.

got a ton of stuff, it was crazy.

congrats, enjoy =)

Agreed. (At least the OP didn't register at Walmart...That would really be ghetto)

I would have said it a little nicer, but I was thinking the same thing. :D All of my married friends wives have no problem with their gaming.

Tell her its either that or you are going to go back to hanging out at bars.

Also, this is the only surround worth buying that is listed on targets website IMO.
http://www.target.com/Onkyo-Home-Th...617414?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k:onkyo&page=1

Target is meh for guys. Unless your scoping out the clearance section. Yea but good luck getting that PS triple from someone.

Jesus Christ, if you two have such fundamental problems that she's jealous of your videogames, why the fuck are you getting married?

It's like watching a car wreck, I can't turn away now......(waits for answer)...

Sorry to make you wait keith, I've been busy.

To answer your question DOK:
1. I don't think "fundamental problems" means what you think it means.
2. You'll (maybe, depends if you find someone or not) understand when you get older. Until then, happy gaming!

ROdeo, thats $100 more than Sony, it's not a name brand, and it doesn't come with a blu-ray player. The Sony surround&:br: deal (to me, with my current knowledge about it, which is zero) seems like a much better value. Why isn't it?

Onkyo is a great brand, its just not a name the Average consumer knows about.

Onkyo is a fantastic name brand. That sony does NOT come with a blu ray player. It just has 3 HDMI ins and 1 HDMI out. Its looks like the Sony BDS300 blu ray player, but it does not have a blu ray or DVD player built into it.

Ooooohhhhhh, Now I see. Hmm...what to do, what to do.

That seems stiff for a surround sound system only, but WTF right? Someone else may buy it and if not, at worst, I get 10% off and can possibly use some return cred for it. Thanks for the info.

Looks like I need to decide b/w a surround sound system and a blu-ray player. I could and possibly will register for both but what would you choose if you just had t pick one?

What asshole would register for Videogame stuff....I don't get it. I registered at Bed Bath & Beyond. They have the BEST return policy...they take anything back, will give you cash, great place. We were going to register at Marshall Fields, but realized we didn't really need too.

An asshole who doesn't buy into the consumerist "get-an-entire-new-kitchen-bathroom-bedroom" crap for registries because it's "proper" or what your "supposed to do." Or maybe an asshole who would like to give their friends something to get them that they know the asshole will enjoy, instead of a fuckin votive or fine china that might get used once in five years. Oh and BTW, if you actually read the thread instead of being the dumbass that you are, you would see that I did not, nor am I going to register for any VG stuff.

Enjoy your lame ass loofah ya whipped sucker! How are those bath beads treating you?

I could see people spending $400+ on a wedding gift but they'll probably want to get something the couple will have for a decade+ if they are dropping that much (say a china setting for example) and not a video game console that will be obsolete in 5-7 years tops. I don't know maybe it's just me but I usually try to pick something off the registry I think the couple will have for a long time. Now I've also bought towels off a registry but that's a lot cheaper than a PS3.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I have found someone who is just as big of a gaming nerd as me. Hell, he is a bigger nerd than me in some respects, and vice versa. There are NO compromises in that regard.

There is a fundamental problem in your relationship if she can't at least respect one of your hobbies. Sorry. Just because it happens to a lot of gamers doesn't mean it isn't a problem.
