I have to make a 5 minute video for my Japanese class. I'm going to be doing some mild anime spoofs, I'll be using AlamDV for some cheap special effects, and Ulead Videostudio to do the video editing.

What I need is a recommendation/suggestion for a good Audio editing program.

One that can
- adjust the volume of files.
- layer multiple tracks together, cutting and pasting where necessary.
- Must be Freeware or full function Trial/Shareware (since its due at the end of April.

If it turns out like I hope it will, it should be interesting, I can send it to anyone when its done.

The basic story is that some guys are playing a PSP, and a ninja comes and steals it, like the rug in the Big Lebowski, hilarity ensues.

I'm going to run some video tests today. I'm hoping to create a fading and warping effect by taking an additional shot of the same room/scenes with no one there and then interlacing it between the frames of the scene WITH people in it.

If you know any fancy camera tricks id be glad to hear about them.

I cant recommend any freeware (I paid for my software). I suggest you check out download.com to see what they have. Good luck

...shouldn't your video editor be able to do that? Every single video editor I've used (iMovie, Premiere, Vegas) can do all that easily. Its a basic function.

otherwise check out Goldwave www.goldwave.com for free, or maybe the free Acid xpress if you want multitrack.

I was going to suggest this too but ya beat me to it!

Audacity is a GREAT program. You can do nearly EVERYTHING you can do in Pro Tools (on a Mac - YUCK) and the best part is that its FREE!

Also, if you're doing a lot of compositing/Special Effects work, you should try out Adobe After Effects. There's probably a demo version on the web (seeing how the full version is MAD expensive), and although it might be limited, you should be able to do everything you need to do.

I'm also a Video Editing/Compositing major (well the major is Digital Cinema, but I'm mainly a post-production guy) so if you need any advice, hit me up.

Good luck and let us know how the video turns out!

thanks, I'll give some of those a look see.

I havent re-installed Ulead Video studio yet, but I dont recall it being able to adjust the volume of tracks, so I thought I'd look for some good multi-purpose software. I'll let you know how things turn out.

Not necessarily. An audio editor can do a lot of things that a video editor cant do. For example, if you want to remove floor noise from the recording, a video editor will not help with this.
