i'm planning on getting a new comp. depending on how much money i got after xmas shopping, i may get it soon, or after i get my tax refund next year. right now i'm looking at a dell dimension e510. but i don't know alot about graphic cards. the comp i have right now is old and pathetic and not able to run much of anything it only has like 4mb integrated so i've never really tried to play much on it (it has problems running baldur's gate if that gives you any idea how old it is) i wondered what kind of video card to look for. i'm not planning on playing any fps's on it. definitly nothing of doom3/quake4/half-life2 caliber. mostly i'll be playing rpg's on it. will any of the card options at dell be good enough? i'm not looking for the best graphics i can get, just so they look fairly good.

the video card options they have are:
Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelator 950 [Included in Price]

128MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X300 SE HyperMemory [add $50 or $2/month3]

256MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X600 SE HyperMemory [add $90 or $3/month3]
Powerful graphics for games and other multimedia applications

would any of those be good enought for rpg's or does anyone have a link to a decent graphics card that isn't too expensive?

Well I have a friend with an X300, and he can run Battlefield 2 decently. Either should be fine if you're not planning on anything too graphics-intensive.

When you say RPGs which RPGs are you refering to. If you plan on playing the latest MMORPGs I would suggest at least a 6600gt PCI-E for $99 at Newegg.com. The 6600gt is 200 percent better than the x600. The 6600gt outperforms the x700. For 10 bucks more you can't go wrong.

I dont know how much RAm the dell PC has that you're tlaking about.

I would also make sure your rig has at least 1 gig of RAM in it prefer 2. The newer gen MMORPGS will require just as much if not more video and mem requirements as the latest and greatest FPS.

When buying a dell i would say dont purchase any of their upgrades. Instead use that money to get Mem and graphics from newegg. You'll save $$$ and end up with better and more hardware.

I wouldn't get any of those personally. X300 is the bottom barrel of this generation, which is almost over. Wait til december and the x1800 will come out. That should push the x800/850 low enough to snatch up ~200-250. And always get as much ram as you can. Ram is like gravy or sex; You can never have too much.

I have a system that came with the X300. Personally, I think it's great, but then again, I can't quite afford a replacement card either. It runs emulated PS1 stuff perfectly and HL2/CS:S decently (with a lot of tweaking).

I could probably use an upgrade, but until the X300 becomes absolete and unplayable, I'm sticking with it.
