While I realize it's not necessarily game related, there's a guy at my school named Hung Long. Seriously. I would LOVE to be able to name my kid Hung Long...
We have Jue Wang :) :p

There used to be a guy here that ran a business. His name was Richard Wang. His Chinese name was (in Chinese, they have the last name first) Wang Kok Dong. I could just imagine him: "Hi, I'm Richard. But you can call me Dick."

Also, the manager at a local TV station has an awesome name:

Dick Drilling

people need to settle down. Game names can be fine. It's just like anything else. Naming your kid "donkey kong" would be about as smart as naming him twinkie or barbeque. It's not stupid because its game related, it's just stupid. Don't assume this idea comes out of "i need to name my child after a game character" it's more like "I need to name my child, I liked this name."
There are some names I have liked from games in the past like

Aeris (prolly too popular)
Edgar
Cammy
Rinoa
Aya (I like how these go together, esp with my last name)
Joanna (I love this name anyway)
Marle

mostly girl names.. but i think those are cool

My husband got me stuck on Cortana Jade.. We find out Fri if we're having a boy or girl.. I think VGN's are a coo ltribute, as long as you don't open the door for therapy..

I just wish I could find a meaning for Cortana somewhere.. anybody have any idea [besides holographic hot chick]?

I don't know how I missed this thread the first go round, but I hope Isles sees this thread and gives an update as to whether or not he went with naming his child Wesker.

We had our first in May and named him Auron, but not just for game reasons--I'm a math teacher, and the auron was a type of rectangle used by the Romans in geometry involving the golden ratio/rectangle.

I know, I know...like that makes it any less nerdy.

We had a beautiful baby girl 2 summers ago and I wussed out and gave a traditional name, Jessica.

It's time for Round 2. The Mrs. and I are expecting a new baby in June and I am again looking at possible video game names for inspiration if anyone has any new ones. (Lara for example)

Nick Mad, I missed your insight. I am sure you will pages and pages of drivel to add to the subject.

Hmm, well, let's see... Claire (Resident Evil), Yorda (Ico), Jade (Beyond Good and Evil), Morrigan (Darkstalkers), Rinoa (Final Fantasy), Ayane (Ninja Gaiden), Asuka (everywhere), and Mega Man. I'm partial to Mega Man. ;) Lara is a pretty name, though.

I posted this last year, pre-baby.. but just wanted to throw it back in there. My daughter is Cortana Jade. We are big Halo fans, and she's a pretty cool character, so there you go. =)

Is Jade the last name, or is that from Beyond Good & Evil.
for a girl Etna Colette

for a boy Edward Thomas

both video game names albeit the girls name is a bit more extravagent.
welp I had a son and ended up naming him Edward Randall Thomas

mannn my third girl Mitsuni Lynn is sooo a Mitzi but she is also a demon like Etna when no one is looking and pure like Collette when people are.

I just like the name Jade, I didn't pick it from a video game. But even better that it is. =)
My cousin named his daughter (now 2 yrs old) Zelda, the family mocked him but everyone calls her Zelly and that's okay
If I had a daughter I'd consider naming her Zelda. Considering some of the horrible names celebrities and trashy people name their kids, some video game ones aren't nearly as bad. Didn't Gwyneth Paltrow name her kid Apple or something like that? I knew a girl named Precious and ironically, she was one of the biggest bitches I ever met.
I've always been partial to Tuesday as well(any Seinfeld fan will get that reference).

I love Zelda- Robin Williams named his daughter Zelda- which gave me courage to go with Cortana. =) I get old ladies telling me 'how pretty- where did you find that?' and when I say Halo they get this littl 'o' face.. it's so funny..

hehehe... we discussed maybe our next dog getting MC.. but alas.. we've promised a family name for a boy. I don't know what we'll do for another girl.. it would have to be a video game name. I'm a big fan of Japanese inspiration.. but I don't know if hubby will go for it.
My friends named their 2nd child Malak.
Heh, Malak is actually an Arabic name. He's gonna have fun in airports.

I'd feel odd using a different culture/ethnicity's name. I really like Asian names, but there's no way I could give my kid one. Unless it came out of an Asian chick.

I know a 'Master Chief' dog! It's hilarious hearing 'No, Master Chief! Drop it!'

I second Koggit. It would feel a little funny calling a little blond hair blued eye kid Teiichi or Ryu.

Well, he does have a Mexican last name since the father is full Mexican and the mother is white/Mexican. Paul named the kid Malak Orion after Darth Malak from KOTOR and his favorite Metallica song, "Orion".

You could always make it a middle name. ;)

You could use the cooler explanation that she was named after the mythical sword that is part of the crown jewels of England.
Zelda was a princess...fathers like to think of and treat their daughters like princesses.

A. Wesker was a traitor and bastard. A triple agent. That should answer your question. oh, while you're at it, why not ask Capcom for sponsorship.

my suggestion, go with 'Blanka' cause you're a monster. j/k Bro, (just think of your kid first)

the idea is on par with naming your kid after a porn star.
I was named after a porn star.

When my wife and I were deciding on names for our four children, we were able to draw inspiration from video games. In fact, she actually really liked the name Jarek from MK4 way back when the game came out. So when we had our son, five years ago, it was a no brainer.

Our daughter's names are Sophia, Helena, and Rayna. She saw Sophitia in Soul Calibur on the DC back in 1999 and really liked Sophia. Same with Helena...she really liked the name when she saw it in DOA2.
Rayna was a compromise between Rayne and Rae. We went with Rayna because our other girls have a soft 'a' sound at the end of their names.

Naming a child is a very special, meaningful and important job for a parent. There is plenty of inspiration for names in video games. Just be reasonable in your selection.

Probably has something to do with the fact that gamers don't exactly spawn all the frequently, and when they do, they want to name their kids after video game characters.

If I ever have a boy, his middle name will be Revan (KotOR). My wife is currently pregnant with twin girls and I'm pushing for Aerith and Celes, probably as middle names. I think Aerith might just have a chance...

As for video game names being more traumatic and lead to teasing down the road...I'm not really seeing it. By the time your kid is in school, how many of his peers are going to know Aerith as a video game character? Not many (and the ones who will would most likely be geeks-in-training). Kids are going to find something to tease just about every other kid about, sooner or later (some kids anyways), so what difference does it really make? If it's not the name, it'll be something about your appearance, if it's not that, it'll be how you're dressed or how you talk. It's a crappy reality, but it is reality...rude, crappy people spawn rude, often crappier people.

Indeed...so I should just do the same old thing and name them after relatives who are dead and gone, as if there's some honor in that instead of just being overly traditional and half-assed as hell.

Aerith made it as a first name for the younger of my twins, Celes made it as the middle name for the elder. Don't like it? Well, that's tough. We agonized over names for months and didn't actually make any decisions until after they were born. The names fit them, we named them and I think we did a good job pairing them with (not entirely traditional) names that sounded unique, but not bat-sh*t crazy.
