Video game music thread!
that's exactly what people were talking about.
Looks like only daroga commented on OCremix at all, i missed his initial comment and saw everyone else talking about the OST.. Unless I'm confusing acronyms, official sound track.

edit: nope. I missed one or two more references. But lots more seemed to be talking about official sound tracks -- sorry for missing the boat. Anyways...

I managed to find them.. but only via torrent.. Hasn't been in print in like 10 years. I really dig most of the stuff on it. I enjoy GOOD video game music in the same way I enjoy good classical -- the music is an emotional driving force, rather than just kind of being there, there is some passion in the orchestral pieces.
You don't neccesarily need to know the game to associate the proper feelings with the music.

Thats how I look at it at least.. Video game music: this gen's classical.

Doesn't Uematsu spend more time with the Black Mages?

He is contributing to the SSBB soundtrack--IIRC, he's doing the main theme.

I double-checked, and an OCRemix group is redoing the entire Chrono Trigger soundtrack. Some of it sounds pretty good, but the rest, like Rolento put it, just don't hold up as much as the original tracks do.

Oh yeah, and there's http://gh.ffshrine.org/ for all the original shiz. Can't remember the last time they updated, but they have a big enough library as it is. Hell, I got all the Parappa music I could ever want from there.

Most of the time, I can afford to buy game soundtracks, so I do.

Next on my "to buy" list, BTW, is the Dragon Quest VIII orchestral album. I have some CDJapan coupons to use up, so why not ;)

Couldn't find a version with no subtitles quick enough, dammit.

Luigi's Mansion 'That Balcony Thing' OCReMix is quite good, but I agree that most of the stuff on there is not all that great compared to the originals.

How about Christophe Heral? I loved the music in BG&E.
