Video game resale tips?

Yeah, I don't want to become addicted or anything. There's a cool thing where I live about garage sales: there is a weekend every month to have them. This way you can get it all in a single weekend. It's a family activity here, no addiction or hoarding.

Nonetheless I'm buying games my friends want to sell at EB games for a few more bucks when it's worth it.

when i started on CAG and saw how to find deals, expecially on kmart and sears threads, i was drooling, i was not thinking much into hoarding, but it was all about buy and sell buy and sell, and i ended up buying more then i could be selling, i would flip on ebay, at gamestop, at game crazy only to see store credit. cuz if i took the cash i was losing out on my profit. even then the credit was not much of a profit, but it was something to get me what i really wanted.

driving around to kmarts and targets all over town, just to fine a 3-5 dollar game, and to flip it for 7 after ebay and paypal fees. not at all worth it, i guess business is not in my blood. but the time it takes up and the addiction is insane. yard sales and thriftstores were my weekend thing, after work at night going to stores was my thing, going to locations out in bufu or communities where the not so middle class people live that can not afford games was my thing, because thats where i would find stuff in stock. but how far should i go?

time, gas, money, sanity.

totally not worth it, i rather find a desk job paying me 13 an hour where i can chat and watch movies and surf the net for deals for my own benefit. starts out as a hobby but it can become a life altering experience. the whole "im smarter then that, it will never happen to me" is bullspit. it happened to me, and many others.

take your allowance and put it in a bank, or buy some bonds. don't get stuck in this cycle its not worth it unless your ready to give up your life. or if you have one really damn good wholesaler.

All this is my opinion. I in no way am telling you how to live your life, or anyone for that matter.

Just because you couldn't control yourself and got caught up into making tiny profits doesn't mean that everyone else will, and to say they should completely give it up and let their money gain pennies in a bank is not being smart.

I'm smarter than that, it will never happen to me. If you know which roads to avoid than it's a lot easier to avoid them. Not to mention I'm very cheap and never spend anything unless I know I'm getting a fantastic deal or I can turn it around to at least make double or triple my money.

It's great that everyone is giving their life stories and everything, but there is no need to scare off new CAGs from trying to find good deals.

After reading some of these stories I thought it would be nice to have a positive story. I got sick about five years ago (this just starts as a downer, it gets better) had to leave college on a medical withdrawal and move back home. Due to my condition I am unable to hold a job since sometimes I am ok for a few days or even weeks other times I spend three or four days where the extent of what I do is get up to eat and shower then back to bed. After my money ran out I was asking my parents for money for...anything I needed, and I got sick of that. I had various junk around the house, Magic the Gathering cards, comic books, toys and other stuff so I tossed it on eBay.

I was roaming the clearance at Wal Mart and saw a 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime for $20 and remembered seeing someone who bought my stuff bought that for $60. I bought the Prime and sold it the next day, I went back and they had about 15, so I bought two more. Sold them and went back...the ten that were left all had the bottom torn off or the package cut...all of them destroyed. Well, I thought there goes my easy money :(

After some research I found there's lots of stuff out there to sell. Now I sell mostly DVDs and toys and a few other things. I usually sell to buy something for myself, i wanted the Jason Bourne Collection, so I bought three copies and sold two to pay for mine. When Sears had $20 GameCubes I found two, bought one for a friend and one to eBay. I did some math and realized my computer needed at least $400 to be able to game and I have not had a console since I got an SNES and Genesis, so I wanted a GameCube. After checking a few other Sears I found one with five. I went back a week later they still had all five, so I bought them and paid for my GC, and a bunch of games after various clearance sales and the 25% off coupon from Gamestop.

I actually go out shopping for eBay stuff with my parents and friends. This gives me a chance to spend time with them and most people I know have fun trying to find stuff for me to sell. I would recommend going shopping for eBay with someone, the eBay does feel like work, but I still buy toys and video games and comic books and still enjoy them...the fun hasn't been sucked out yet and I am not addicted, but I am the kind of person who can have just one potato chip, figuratively and literally. Plus I always make enough money to cover at least gas and lunch. On top of that it gives me something to do, it was getting more and more difficult being home all the time, with no work or school. Then there is that level of enjoyment you get from buying a DVD for $4 and selling it for $30 :D

Well, hopefully that was a positive story to balance things out. I figure the grammar of that was awful and parts did not make sense, sorry for that...I'm busy wrapping a few packages I just sold :D
