Video Game Shopping in Korea?

I may be going to Korea for business in a month or two....has anyone here been there? I know that Korea doesn't have a huge video game scene, but is the video game shopping there at all similar to the vg shopping in Japan? Anyone know. I'd appreciate any advice or assistance. I really hope that it is similar to Japan, either way....lmk.
 
Video games, console wise at least, don't seem to be very big at all in Korea. None of my relatives had any consoles. The only way I could scratch my itch for gaming was by going to pc clubs and small ghetto arcades. Those are all over the place, but that's about it. Hope you have a fun time there. I hope I go back there soon.

I wouldn't say the arcades are ghetto. I went to an arcade in Seoul run by AM(Andamiro) and it wasn't bad at all. Likewise I've seen some other smaller, fairly nice arcades. To be honest I was a bit disappointed with Lotte World's ones though they're the biggest around Seoul to my knowledge.
There are two BIG shopping centers in Seoul where I was for games, one looked like a flea market with BOOTH after BOOTH of new and used games being sold as well as a SHITLOAD of console to PC game conversions which had GREAT deals on them, seriously. I think most of the games were legit too. You had Akumajo Dracula X, Rhapsody Of Zephyr, Tempest by Softmax, etc. Oh and before this flea market there's part of a FLOOR filled with video games, INCLUDING a good amount of console games and systems, called Space 9. At the time in Space 9 and the corresponding flea market they were selling PSP new and it was overpriced. Trust me if the Japanese had any problem finding the PSP they just had to look here.
You will enjoy yourself in Korea gaming at their arcades which have GREAT prices ranging from 300-500 Won usually(30-50 cents). Seriously man enjoy yourself, have a Kimchi omelet, have Fish stock and see a talented Gasoo if you can(Tasha comes to mind). Also those places for games I mentioned earlier BEAT Akihabara in sheer number! I saw more of those game booths around in that small space than in the ENTIRETY of Akihabara.
Honestly I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself in Korea. My goal there was to play other dance games like Ez2 and D-Tech as well as find OOP K-Pop and meet Gasoo's and buy games. When I was at the mall during Christmas I heard Lee Hyeon Do perform but unfortunately I wasn't impressed by any of his new stuff.

Average cost of NEW release PS2, PSP games would run around $50.
You could find some used games for around $20.

But do not expect to find anything good less than that..

However, you could find some really good accessories for really cheap.

There is a city called "Yong-San."

Basically, the whole city is made of small shops that sells Electronics.

If you can't find what you are looking for in that city, don't expect to find anywhere else.

It's NOT a separate city, it's part of Seoul. Jeez man but that's the area I'm thinking of. Yeah man Yong-San completely KILLS Akihabara with the SHEER amount of game shops you can find around.
Yeah I suggest he mainly buys PC ports of Japanese games. Seriously you can find some cheap shit there and as long as you know someone who's played the Japanese version and can roughly translate it you can patch it.
Also saying this anyone looking for Suikoden 2 could just buy the Chinese PC version and insert an English patch.
edit: Hey kimsh0t do you know if there are any cheap D-Tech machines I could get in fairly good condition with the fan upgrade on it? I want to buy to ship here though I know shippings gonna cost me an arm and a leg. :whistle2:(
 
my friend just got back from korea and he bought that magna carta game over there. so i guess they do have some stuff.
 
Magna Carta's not out yet here, so that's pretty sweet.

lawlz, play GunZ: The Duel with those crazy Koreans who pull off super keyboard moves.

Seriously, I played this GunZ game for a while. It was ridulous.
 
That makes sense Magna Carta is out there since it's from a KOREAN company! It's their property. Also I'd suggest getting the Korean version since you'd be translating from the original source and not getting a translation after the game coming after the game had already been translated once, COUGHtheAmericanversionCOUGH.
Everything else Softmax is on PC, also if you look at "Arcturus" from screenshots it LOOKS like a console game except it's on PC. I've played it and it's an Action RPG.
Most of the shit you're interested for console RPG's that haven't come over here you can buy on PC in Korea: "Farland Saga". "Langrisser", etc.

You know what kim I RESENT that shit. I want to watch Korean music videos at some sites and those fuckers won't let me watch them because I don't have a KSSN so I don't find it funny. I can't watch BoA's latest videos cuz that shit is on Fandango. Only place I can watch new videos now is Bugs.
