Yeah, but it's specifically directed at video gamers, so it doesn't have to be totally random. The study is - for the most part - valid as long as the research says "xx% of video gamers on an internet video game community...", rather than "xx% of people...".

No, not necessarily. It just has to be valid and/or representative

Surveys are rarely taken from random samples because of the large cost of doing so and even then they are rarely truly random due to selection biases.
