Video Games not "media"??? They are TOYS???

I just got back from the post office and was denied media mail trying to ship a game. I was told that video games are toys, not media. I asked if a CDROM was media and she said yes. This makes no sense.
 
Yeah, they've been cracking down on media mail lately... The guys at my PO said they were told it could only be educational media.... Here's what it says on the usps site:
Media Mail® service is a cost efficient way to mail books, sound recordings, recorded video tapes, printed music, and recorded computer-readable media (such as CDs, DVDs, and diskettes). Media Mail can not contain advertising except for incidental announcements of books. The maximum weight for Media Mail is 70 lbs.

There are presorted rates available for bulk quantities of Media Mail (minimum quantity is 300 pieces).
A barcode discount is available for Media Mail.
Rates are based on weight and size.
 
Some post offices have been saying this lately.. and techincally they are probably right. If you look closely at the requirements for media mail.. video games probably do not count.

Never volunteer unnecessary information in these situations. You had media in the form of digital optical discs. The content of those discs is entirely beside the point.

You could take the educational tact.

"This is an interactive insructional application that covers the procurement and operation of motor vehicles by non-conventional means and the process of pursuing improved career opportunities in extralegal organizations."

My problem with the whole issue is that there is no authority on the issue. I called 1-800-askusps and they told me it's up to the local Post Office's "discretion". What kind of crap is that?
 
Because of it now being more difficult to ship games Media Mail, I think Half.com should change their policies where games are to be sent 1st class instead of Media Mail (and a bigger shipping credit as a result). Half.com tells the seller to ship any video game, cartrdige, CD or DVD based via Media Mail and that's all they credit you for when you aren't even allowed to ship cartridges media mail and now it seems like it's harder to ship a CD or DVD based game media mail.
 
I traded in some old games through wherehouse.com, and they instructed me to mail them using Media Mail, and that was the only was they would add the shipping fee to my trade-in credit.

Edit. That was a few months ago.
 
My post office lied to me at one point about how CD/DVD-ROMs are not eligible for media mail. According to their policy on their website, they most certainly are. When they ask me now I don't feel bad about lying right back to them.

I was actually going to e-mail them about cartridges as you are right they should not be mailed at the media rate. Interesting that their official policy is to have their sellers mail those via media. The USPS should crack down on their asses.
 
The one I go to, if they ask, I just say CDs'. They then just act like they don't care and ring it up. But the one I usually go to doesn't consider comic books under media mail, so I go to one that's about a mile away in the other direction(which consider comics under media mail) when I have to send those out.

Now if they refuse to mail it since it's a CD, ask them to look at what is considered under media mail(a note about it should be around the register about it) and it will say CDs are covered under that. The ones that refused to send it must be jackasses, just take it to another post office near you.
