Very Mixed feelings on Vince declaring for the NFL draft.

I've watched every UT games he's been in and have been to my share at UT, so I hate to see him go. If heart and athleticism were deciding factors, he'd be a lock as a future hall of famer, but his delivery and decisions make me a bit skeptical about his pro prospect. I think if he can stay healthy and get drafted by a team with a good tight end, he's going to be in real good shape.

I'm nervous about where the UT program is going to go from here, but I wish Vince the best...he definitely gave us memories we'll never forget!

Good luck Vince!!!
Off topic, but do you know Paul Acevedo AKA eastx here at CAG? He's from Lake Jackson.
The name actually sounds familiar. I'm actually originally from NY....lived here about 8 years now. I thought I was the only area CAG though....good to hear I'm not alone!! :D

He's on Xbox Live with the same name. Great guy.

Back on topic... What do you think the chances are that the Texans will draft Young #1, since they already have David Carr?

None. They're taking Reggie Bush. They are picking up Carr's $8 million option.

I am sad hes going to be turning pro, but hopefully he can show off his amazing running and throwing game when he turns pro. My money is on he will be drafted by the Saints.

Smoke and mirrors.

By saying they'll take Bush, the value of the first overall pick rises even more. Texans milk it for everything it's worth, trade down a few spots while picking up probably 3-4 additional 1st/2nd round picks over the next two years, and end up drafting the top offensive lineman available, D'Brickashaw Ferguason.

Either way, they're not taking Vince ;)
Damn, now I wonder who gets drafted by New Orleans.
Yeah I know.

Conventional wisdom says Leinhart, because he's probably more of an "NFL quarterback," but the hype is going to make it awfully hard to pass on Vince!

First 3 picks will be
Bush to Texans (obviously)
Young to Saints (fairly close, would probably be willing to go, can easily replace brooks in their system)
Leinart to Titans (Norm Chow)

It would be the best option for them. They already have a good running back in Dominick Davis and need to improve their defense and O-line much more than QB or RB. It would be best for their team to trade that pick and move down.

vince was not gonna come out but he knows he was freakin awesome in the rose bowl and that basically locked him up as a top 5 pick prolly to tenn after leinart goes to new orleans. Vince wont go to New Orleans because i believe he is too similar to Brooks who NO hates a bunch. Leinart is more convential qb for pros and would be a good fit in NEw orleans Good choice for vince i hope he does well in the pros. Texans should trade the pick get additional picks and take drickshaw like another poster said.

Well they're in a really good situation, that's for sure.

Taking Bush really doesn't make sense. The reason they suck is because they don't have an offensive line. Carr is sacked more times than any quarterback in the league, year after year. It's pathetic.

More importantly... Bush has become such a huge media darling that he's a hot commodity. Teams will want him just to appease their fans. Remember what happened with Eli Manning and the Chargers? They traded the rights to him to the Giants picked up a ton of picks in the process. I predict a similar outcome with the Bush situation.

But really... Bush a speed back and without an offensive line he's going to get demolished. If he tries to dance around in the backfield, he'll be clobbered. If he tries to go up the middle, he won't have any holes. If he tries to sweep outside, he's not going anywhere... NFL defenses are too fast for that. Basically, he's in big trouble if he's a Texan next year.

So yeah... from everyone's standpoint, trading that #1 pick makes the most sense.

Show me a QB that has been an impact player his first year. Please, Reggie Bush will be rookie of the year and his skills are unique in the sense that they provide the Off. Cord. with so many options. He's going to rush for 15-20 plays a game, he'll get around 6-8 balls thrown his way (little screens), he can play as a wide out and he'll be amazing on special teams. He'll be far more effective than even a mobile QB. A guy like Bush provides a great blanket for a QB (Carr) that has had his brains pounded.

Vince Young is good but he's not going to have the same impact as Bush.
Show me a QB that has been an impact player his first year.
Umm, there was once this Rookie QB named Dan Marino that did alright

But, yeah you're right, there aren't too many QB's that make an impact their rookie seasons. I think the same can be said about rookie RBs though....though, they do have a much better chance.....especially, with talent like Bush.

I think the point people are trying to make is that as good as Reggie Bush is, the Texans already have a couple of RBs that have made do pretty well without a line, and if the Texans could just bolster their line and give Davis, Carr, Johnson and company a chance, they'd do alright without Bush.

This has qeickly become a really overhyped draft class IMO. Both Bush and Young are two guys that I don't think will live up to the their high expectations at the next level. Neither will be nearly as versitile or really even successful in the pros as they are now.

It's funny that this is an awesome draft class on the defensive side of the ball too but we never hear about it. Then again that's been true for a long time now.

I'm calling it right now. The underclassman with the most potential in this year's draft is Leonard Pope. He will do great things in the NFL if his team utilizes him. UGA made a big mistake by not making him a larger part of their offense.

If the Texans don't want Bush I'm sure the Jets will jump at the chance to get him. But if the Texans want to fix that Oline and the D they better open up their wallets because they won't be able to just do it through the draft.

Also, if the Texans draft Young don't be surprised if Bush falls to the Jets since both the Saints and Titans need a QB.

the Texans seem pretty set on Bush. They like Carr and they like Davis. Reggie Bush will not be an every down back so will fit perfect in this system. As others have posted, their offensive line is MISERABLE and is definitely holding them back. I agree that they should trade the first pick away (as amazing as Reggie Bush is) and do their best to pick up more players that will help them do what they want. On the other hand, why they will take him is pretty obvious. He will finally bring in the crowds, he will get media coverage and he will get plenty of TV coverage. The Texans desperately need the attention. Next is his ability to play. If you have watched him play all year, you know how fantastic he is. He usually plays a lot better than he did in the Rose Bowl. Vince Young is great, but in the NFL, he will not be a Pro Bowl player in my opinion. Young made a smart decision in leaving early as he is now a lock for a top five pick. if he stayed next year, who knows? Also, I think the top player when it is all said and done will be AJ Hawk of Ohio State. As many amazing defensive players as they have had, Hawk is the best. He is the best linebacker to go to the NFL in years.

vince will play a lot like michael vick. personally, i think vick sucks.(and his brother is a punk ass.) sure he might get 80 yards rushing a game and he has some nice moves, but does that help the team win? no. quarterbacks in the nfl need to be a passing threat first and then run if nothings available.(rothlisberger is good at this). vince looked good but he wont be rushing for 200 yards in the nfl anytime soon.

LOL. Uhm, where did I say the Texans should trade Vince Young?

Show me a running back, that relies heavily on speed and agility, that has been successful without an offensive line. Barry Sanders doesn't count. This is a new era of football, with Julian Peterson's and Brian Urlachers's (etc) that are faster at that position that we could have ever imagined.
