Features

Virtua Fighter™ 5, the game that pioneered the 3-D fighting genre is back and available on Xbox 360™. Virtua Fighter 5 raises the bar for console fighting games with all the features fans know and love, plus enhanced gameplay mechanics, leaderboards, and online multiplayer.
 • Two new characters: El Blaze and Eileen round out the cast of 17 dynamic characters. El Blaze is a Mexican wrestling champion who uses the Lucha Libre fighting style, and Eileen, originally from China, uses "Kou Ken," or a monkey-style Kung Fu fighting style.
 • Customization: Customize your character with the enhanced attachment system and customization engine. This gives players more flexibility than ever before when creating their characters.
 • Character portability: An Xbox 360 exclusive, character data portability makes it possible to save characters created in Quest Mode via Memory Unit, and play with those characters against other people's customized characters in VS Mode on other Xbox 360 systems.
 • Fighting capabilities: New offensive moves let players easily slip around their opponent from the side and back, allowing players to be more strategic with their battles.
 • Next-gen presentation: Stunning, highly detailed 3-D fighting environments inspired by locales around the world allow players to challenge their opponents in unique arenas. HD resolution widescreen is complemented by 5.1-channel Dolby® Digital surround sound.
 • Multiplayer: Online multiplayer enables players to compete worldwide with an online two-player versus mode via Xbox LIVE®.
 • Leaderboards: See how you stack up against other players on the game leaderboards.

This game will be coming out later this year, but why not start a thread now!?

All I know is...

Version C.

Online.

BELIEVE.

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3160825

I'll believe "online" when I see it...I know that sega has been pretty adamant about not implementing this feature for vf5 (for any system).

MarkMan is around enough that I believe he will actually update the initial post with newer information (no disrepect to the OP of the other thread). Plus he gets info on fighting games before most of us so I am going to let this be the official VF5 thread.

And if this is really online I will definately be buying this and the stick.

Yeah, I'm a VF fan with or without online, but with I'll be completely ecstatic, until I find out that I'm not as good as I thought I was... which will take like two matches I'm sure.
Online.

BELIEVE.
You gotta believe.;) Don't get my hopes up for nothing.

I hope there isn't any lag and they get it right. This is pretty great news.

When Virtua Fighter was revealed to not be the PS3 exclusive we originally thought it would be, fans took solace in the fact that the 360 version would be coming out months down the line, after they'd gotten all the joy they could out of the title. Well now we know why the 360 version was delayed so long, as Sega announces online multiplayer functionality for the Xbox 360 version of Virtua Fighter 5!

http://kotaku.com/gaming/holy-crap/virtua-fighter-5-360-goes-online-275659.php

1. there's already a thread
2. Where was this announced? Didn't the new EGM just say there wasn't a online mode?
EDIT: nvm, just checked. This made my day.

I'm interested to see if things actually work. I'm not a fan of fighters, but if they can manage to make the game work online with the usual 360 latency and sustain VF5s graphics, it will definately be a step in the right direction.

I can just imagine the anger-induced strokes that will occur by hardcore fans when they lose because of lag. :) Hope all goes well.

edit: and why do these posts have to turn into fanboy bait..sigh.

ooops merge thread confused me, thanks for clearing that up casey

i had virtua fighter 4 evo for ps2 but never played it because i had no friends to play against, so cant wait to get owned online

Here's the Press Release:
PRESS RELEASE

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (July 6, 2007) – SEGA® Europe, Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. announced today that the highly-anticipated arcade fighting game, Virtua Fighter™ 5 for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, will feature an online versus mode at launch in Autumn 2007. The Xbox 360™ version of Virtua Fighter™ 5 is based on the latest arcade version update and features both analogue-stick and D-pad control, as well as vibration support. The game also includes an improved Quest mode featuring more CPU rivals, items, and emblems for character customisation. The DOJO mode has added features including leaderboards, training move settings, improved throw and escape training, and the option to change your opponent’s position and recovery type. Looks like PS3 is assed out on this one...
The old thread thread had said our inside man(Markman) knew there was online mode and he knows his stuff.

Thats why casey(mod) said its fine if this thread becomes the new one.

Today i guess many places confirmed what we already knew to be true, online play to our version of VF5 :)

Thanks Mark!
He is referring to javeryh's post because I merged the two threads (markman's and his).

I wonder if they'll do a patch for the PS3 version, to please the Japanese players.

I'm jazzed for this game,--especially for the stick as I missed out on the DOA one and this new one will (hopefully) not have fruity graphics that will make my wife go :whistle2:s .

Well if the 360 version is going to have online play, it looks like my ps3 version of vf5 is going on the trading block. :)

VF5 with online sweet. personally i dont care too much for online play with fighting games, because ill just get my ass kicked. im happy with beating the computer on normal.
*fixes collar*

That's wassup.
well deserved collar fix.

I'm disappointed there wasn't a more formal date announced though.

I heard Sega doesn't want to cannabalize its arcade sales by putting online on the PS3.
If it is patched, I would prefer to play it on dedicated PS3 servers rather than have "host advantage" which I experienced in Gears.
Either way, great news for Xbox 360 owners.

I could see that...though I don't think anything could stop VF from being insanely popular in the arcades there.

there will be lag and it'll probably ruin the game. sorry, just don't want anyone to have high hopes for this and get hurt when it comes out  jk.

I just saw this. Needless to say my interest in Virtua Fighter 5 just changed alot since they are adding online. Before I was gonna wait for a price drop on the single player only fighting, but with Live the replayability will be endless.
Wait it has been confirmed? I was without internet for some time (I went camping). What is this all about?
It's about giving the big FU to first generation PS3 adoptors who supported Sega by buying Virtua Fighter 5. Atleast for now anyways. Microsoft probably paid Sega a handful of change to pull this one.

more like Version C of the game called for alot more additions in the arcades... plus, 360 is getting version C which PS3 never had.

No, I would definitely go with Monster Mack on this one.

Online play, no matter how laggy, is an awesome substitute to slightly downgraded graphics and a 6-month wait.

I'll be on D1, sucking like no one's business

You're joking right? No matter how laggy? So if it's to the point to being unplayable you wouldn't care?

I think it will be constantly patched. Last I played DOA it wasn't too laggy unless you were fighting the folks in Japan or kids who were downloading massive porn while playing DOA. I had a good few days of no lag matchs versus people in the Eastern USA. It really has to do with their area/bandwith.

I'm with you 100% on that comment Sean.

Fighting games + Lag= insanely annoying

In terms of video games, nothing annoys me more than even just the slight amount of lag in fighting games. I realize not everyone has VF5 or fighting game competition in their area. I also realize not everyone has friends that love fighting games or want to learn VF5. For me personally, I'd rather play alone then have to sit through the kind of lag I randomly get on DOA4, 3S and especially HF.

That just how I am though, it's not to knock anyone who is excited about the online feature of VF5.

All I want is the PS3 version (which I bought in losing patience for the 360 version + the crappy D-Pad) to have the Version C update/patch.

they better put a lot of effort into the online mode, doa4 was extremely bad, i loved the good online matches but i had very few of those.

This is what the new Hori 360 arcade stick will look like(to be released when VF5 drops)....

Oh dang no online for the PS3 version?

Oh... boo-hoo...
