Virtua Fighter 5 - Gen. Disscussion - Item Pack DLC Out Now 300pts
am i the only one getting his ass handed to him online? seems like everyone is god tier. great game otherwise.
Just keep practicing. Who are you using? I'm always up for some un-ranked matches if you wanna practice against a human. The comp isn't very good for that sort of thing.

Debating getting this at CC on sunday, but cant really shell out the extra money for a joystick, is the game still worth it if playing via normal controller?

Everyone's diffrent. I can't play on a normal d-pad. It just feels unnatural. Are you used to playing fighters on an arcade stick? If not then it shouldn't bother you too much.

Not used to playing fighters at all =p

Then stick to the normal 360 controller. Unless you wanna be ULTRA HARDCORE!!!!

Wow Rodimus thats the first time I ever experienced a drop in VF, and alittle lag. But this game is pretty flawless with lag. Hope your connection gets better after the storm, u whip my ass.

BTW I cant believe this is $40 at CC next week, thats a huge fucking shock and pisses me off considering i could have saved another $10. Wahh! oh well.
fucking Noel is gettin'n on my VF5 nerves.
 that's florida... and our local news since you know that best.

Today and through the weekend I've and will be going through the characters to see what I prefer now. I played a bit of Vanessa and she feels alot more smooth and natural now than her VF4 version... did they do an overhaul on her or what? I may make her my main if I pick her up quickly after I finish with brad.

K so this game is awesome and I totally suck at it. I'm 0-8 in online ranked matches. Maybe I should work on learning someone else or something. I only played with Lei Fei so far.

Lei Fei is a more advanced character. Try using Pai, Kage, Lau, Sarah or Jacky first.

Thanks man now I gotta learn all the moves for someone new lol.

I saw you playing against my brother last night. You have an all red Lei-Fei with a bandana/blindfold, correct?

Yeah, that's me. How was the match? I played like 50 matches last night.

blackflag - If you want to start off with Lei Fei you can do it, but it's not gonna be easy. The other characters I mentioned work better for beginers new to the game. With Lei Fei you have to find what I call a "flow." Knowing what moves go into diffrent stances and pulling off the right move at ease. He can be a confusing character, so I wouldn't recomend him to someone new to VF, but if you're already far into training with him, and you fell somewhat comfortable then stick with him.

It was a good match. I think you swept it though, haha. My brother is a pretty good Lion player, but it was his first time online last night. He got killed the first couple games, then he started winning after he fought you. You play a good Lei Fei, I'll have to brush up. I was watching him then I noticed the name and thought, "hey, he's from CAG!"

I'll try to be on this weekend, but I got killed my first three online games, so I'll jump on once I get back into the groove. Does online feel different from playing online to anyone else? Maybe its just that human players are more aggressive.

Just downloaded the demo. Why the hell is it so fucking easy? I think I got hit about two times by the four or five CPU players they give in the demo.

I'll be playing this multiplayer with my bro when he gets home and see what it's actually about, though I must say if I can beat five CPU players without taking a hit, when I don't even have a clue what the fucking controls are, there is a problem.

I have yet to try VF5 beyond the demo but that's pretty much how VF4 was. I lived in Okinawa in 2003-04 and it was the hot game at the arcade and those guys there were incredible. Other games (particularly SFZ3 and Hyper SF II) I could find a wide range of competition but not in Virtua Fighter. It was as serious as the internets.

So far I haven't had much of a problem with the CPU in Quest mode yet. But I haven't gotten to the higher difficulty. I'm still fighing people in the 10 kyu - 5th Dan range. I'm sure it'll get tough after a while. I know VF4 did. The demo is only 3 matches long and yeah, it pretty hard not to win.

chair_home - I'll be looking for you online. Thanks for the props.

I downloaded the demo. I was a huge fan of VF4: Evolution's Quest mode so I'll pick this up sometime. The only problem was the PS2-quality backgrounds in many levels, but gameplay wise it's great.

So, anyone get owned by my character in quest mode yet?

Location: Sega North
Player: MarkManSDT
Rank: Assassin
Character: Lion

I've been waiting to come by your character but have yet to see it... eventually.

Well I gotta double fucked with VF.

First, my Toys R Us doesn't even have the game, and they still have it listed coming in on Halloween. That's alright, I'm busy with work and I wouldn't have much time to play it anyways, but it get's better.

I paid 75 bucks to get the Hori Stick from Amazon.com and I got it on Monday and the box looked like sombody played soccer with it, then sat on it. The box for the stick itself was dented, and the bottom of the stick looked like it was coming apart.

I tried it out and it worked fine, then about 10 minutes into playing I get "Controller Disconnected" and it stopped working. So hopefully I get a replacement in before I can get the game, because I WILL NOT play VF online without a proper Joystick.

I know alot of his moves and combos and I can switch stances pretty good. I suck at defense and I think I just need more practice offline. He's the only character I've played since it was released so I don't want to switch quite yet.

I think my main issue is I'm just not used to fighting real people. I fuight the crap AI and they never do the moves that people were destroying me with. I just seem to get confused and frustrated and freeze up. I've been reading some stuff about how defense works in the game so I'm going to try improving that. I get thrown way to much.

But I love the game. It is super fun and a challenge so I am definitely sticking with it.
yo MarkMan, I just beat up your Lion. nice red hair ;)
The pain is felt across time zones and states.

Sounds like you got the basics down, then yeah, stick with him. But the AI is nothing like play a real person. The AI is so passive while most people online are very agressive so your defensive game has to be polished. Remember his "one legged" stance is good for those punchers.

EB was F'N sold out...uggg. While I'm glad people are BUYING the game, I'm pissed off that I don't have a copy of the game I got my 360 for.

If I don't get it at Circut City tomorrow, I'm going to try to price match it at Best Buy.

Maybe it's a good thing you missed out so you can get it cheaper tomarrow.

earlier today (sat) I got my brad to one of the top ranks so I'm happy. Now I'm on the hunt to get his items and get all other characters to at least 1st dan (so far only vanessa whom I am leaning to learn).

Yeah, I got my Lei Fei to "Master" level last night. I'd like to start with Brad. I do have a little Akira knowledge under my belt but unless I want to get super serious with him I'm not sure I want to touch him.

BTW I love pwning Akira noobs online, they're so easy.

I just picked this game up. I won't claim to be the utmost VF master and I'm stuck with the 360 pad, but I would like to attempt win.

Sure am glad I waited. I price matched at Best Buy and got the game for 43 bucks. I only played a five rounds before I had to go to work and I REALLY have to get used to the new movment system.

As with all fighting games, I always max out the difficulty so I get my ass handed to me and I watched how they loved to bob and weeve side to side to avoid attacks and knock me down from the side. I can't wait to finally sit down with it and learn to master this.

Since I'm still waiting for my Joystick, I'm not going online with it and just playing it on Arcade mode with the difficulty to Very Hard. Hopefully I'll get my stick returned by the middle of the week so I can FINALLY try this online and see how I fair with everybody else.

If anybody wants to send me characters, friend requests and whatever, just do so. My GT is Moon Jump81

dude man that sucks you should have gotten it at gamestop for 60 TRU should be gettin it the one near has it but ive been busy so i cant go pik it up

So @ $40 I can't wait on this one like I was going to. Expect to see my Goh and El Blaze around some time later in the week. I have the ps3 version but haven't played much cause I lack a joystick for the system. I wish Lion didn't hit like a small child or I would continue to use him he was my character before evo.

How is the sparring/training section in this game? I sucked at VF4 but loved it, wondered if i had a chance with this game. 39.99 is good deal for this game for such a recent release.

Picked it up Sunday at BB w/CC PM, and after being out of the VIRTUA world for 13 years (can you say "Sega Saturn," anybody?) I'm starting to remember why I loved the VF series so damn much. I'm barely scratching the surface with Akira--I know that there's much more to learn. Question: Is Akira a decent character to learn with?

If any CAGS are online tonight, send me a FQ and a message. GT = Kromax44

It's not as good as VF4. The training or Dojo has "Free Training" & "Command Training." Plus some "Command Traning Time Attack" which sounds kinda dumb, I never did it. So yeah, none of that advanced training to learn the combos and strategy's for each character. They still have VF TV which are matches you can watch to see how a pro plays.
S+ - Lei Fei, Kage, Vanessa, Eileen

A - Lau, Shun, Pai, Wolf, Brad, Akira

B - Goh, Aoi, Jeff, Jacky, Blaze

C - Lion, Sarah
Confirming that my success with Vanessa probably has more to do with her as a character than my "skill," and also justifying my utter hatred of Lei Fei.

I'm no VF whiz, but from what I can tell, no, Akira really isn't great to learn with. He's definitely one of the more difficult characters, with his ultra-precise inputs for his big money moves. You sound like the beginner characters may be too simple to keep your interest, but maybe one of the intermediate characters might be a better character to learn with? Maybe Rodimus or MM can give you a more detailed suggestion.

is Vanessa good to start out with? I just learned about the stance switches, I think I'm doing well, but some of those commands in command time attack arehard to understand.

trq is right. Akira is probably the worst character to start with. He has a very linear fighting style, and like trq said his combos require alot of practice and precision. He's ment to be played for advanced people.

I always saw Vanessa as an intermediate character. I don't see anything wrong in picking her to start of with.

For beginers I'd recomend: Jacky, Sarah, Lau or Pai. Ther're pretty strait forward with your basic P,P,P,K combos and mix ups and ment for noobs. I'd stay away from Akira, Lei Fei, Brad & Goh. They're pretty confusing to learn.

Thank you both for your input. I'll give Jacky and Sarah a try.

I'm curious how you guys are mapping your Hori sticks. I got mine and I tried a few things but I'm not completely satisfied with how I have it.
