Virtua Fighter 5 - Gen. Disscussion - Item Pack DLC Out Now 300pts
I just have the top 3 buttons as "Guard, Punch, Kick" in that order. The rest doesn't matter.
the bottom (the A button) I use as punch+guard... ie. throw.

Is anyone interested in a VF session tonight at about 7:15 EST? Send me a FR, or if you're already on my list, send me a message.

For the record, I suck.

Been busy for the last couple days, hadn't had a chance to play. I'll be on later today.

I really need to step up my defensive game. I often find myself not blocking low fast enough.

I'll be picking this up likely tommorrow once I get paid so I'll be up for some games once I learn one or two of the characters moves.

I finally went online a few times with Eileen as my fighter of choice. The pwnage hasn't been as bad as I expected, but I always seem to get my ass kicked when I go against Wolf players. >

GGs to everyone I played tonight. I'm surprised I don't see more Fighting Thread regulars playing.

I wish I could save replays cause I just had the most awsome fight ever. Of course I won but I did it with a very cool ring out and I ranked up. Satisfying...

Holy crap, you kicked my ass pretty severely last night. I probably wasn't much of a challenge for you. Any advice as to what I was doing wrong? (I was playing as Jacky.)

I ordered my copy from amazon tuesday and got it in yesterday. I'm surprised it only took a day to come in. I played a couple games with Rodimus Donut last night and had a blast.

If you're gonna use Jacky you gotta get in peoples faces more. You where defending way too much. Go to the move list and pick out 5 moves or combos you like. Practice using them effectivly in a real fights. After you're comfortable with them pick 5 more.

garrett_in_the_hat - Way off topic: I see Osamu Tezuka's Buddha as your avatar. Have you read the entire series?

Thanks for the constructive advice. I'll work on it.

Off topic, but I just realized I have two CAG identities. Man, am I out of it.

I'm working on learning Vanessa she's pretty cool so far though the stance stuff is a little odd. Are there damage mitigation benifits from defensive stance or is it just fewer frames per move leaving you less open from attacking?

Started playing this last night and I'm loving it, started out with Jacky as I think Rodimus said he's good for beginners.

Anyone know a good place to pick up the Hori stick? Amazon have it but its not shipped by them so I'll have to pay shipping and tax.

Whoohooo! I'll have my copy from Sega in a couple of days, so I'll be able to join the ranks of learning and getting my ass whooped by fellow cag players. lol

Rodimus you pwned me hard even though there was a glimmer of light here and there.

I just can't stand playing one character so I switched from Lau to El Blaze and now I have a whopping 36% win percentage, probably like 15% with El Blaze.

Any website that can help me learn more about combos with El Blaze/Lau and general help? I am sucking so bad at this game, this is the first time in any 2d/3d fighter I've had win percentage of under 40% after playing 50+ games versus other people.

Next VF they need to work on having the quest mode reflect real life player attacks/tactics because I'm 93% with El Blaze and 94% with Lau in Quest, and have reached Master + status.

Sorry, can't help you with any websites. Everything I learned with Lei Fei I learned on my own by practice and watching mataches. If you do find a site let me know.

As for Quest mode play in some arcade that have advanced players. It's not so easy. Any CPU player below "Master" pretty much sucks.

got my prize from Sega a few mins ago. gonna pop it in and use my hori stick until I can get adjusted. have to play online either tonight when I get home or tommorow on my day off. whoohoo!!!

for websites on the game, try vfdc.net

Does anyone know whats in the item pack? Man, i haven't played in such a long time... too many games, not enough time.

Thanks. I don't know how I feel spending real money to play dress up with my characters, but I do like the customization... At least its only 300 pts.

Wow, I wish this game would have come out in Summer. I absolutely love VF, but I'm just not playing it enough.

Anyway...my main is Lion.

Gamertag: SNAKE EYES EX

I got a lot better once I went more on the defensive and threw in some low jabs/low attacks after realizing I was doing nothing but mid/high combos and rushing in to attack every time. I also play the "keep away" game a lot more and I'm actually winning now. Granted when you win 2 and lose 25+ in your last twenty seven games it diminishes your record! LOL! So I'm trying to work on getting back to 40% win percentage and hopefully 50% someday. I also suggest playing higher ranked people like Rodimus just to get a feel against the experienced players.

I also fought higher then Master ranks on Quest mode but It's a joke compared to Live, mainly because they fall for so many straight combos and cheap moves.

How's everyone doing in Ranked Vs.? So far I'm 5th Dan, 280 W, 140 L.

I played a bunch of games last night and did very good. I'm extremly happy with my performance. However the only character I can use is Lei Fei. I pretty much suck with everyone else.

The online competition in great. I'm used to playing Street Fighter HF where people use cheap ass Blanka all the time, care only for rank, and quit if they're about to lose. I've only had one turd ball quit in VF5. After he left he then wrote me a nasty letter to go "fuck my mother."

I'll actually pull the cord if someone decides to constantly join my games after whipping me three rounds to none. It's only happened once, but I had to do it last night. Sorry folks, boosting on lowbies does not make you a better player.

I think I'm 80ish and 170 or so. Pretty horrible and my record with Lau was a lot better but I want to be good with El Blaze.

I don't pick on newbies, I just play whoever comes up first. I do feel bad if it's someone that I've beaten before but tough luck. It's happened to me before where some awsome guru keeps playing me and I keep losing, but I don't mind.

I don't think people that are good pick on newbies. Sometimes it just happens. In fact I prefer to play people better than me or with a higher rank. That way my character can rank up. If I play some 10th Kyo noob all it does is add to my win percentage, I'll never rank up. But there seems to more noobs than experianced players online.
So when are we going to have a tournament going?
Is that even possible with VF5's online mode?

Either way, I'm absolutley in. Get ready for my average Veteran Kage!

If we are all honest we could easily just add each other, play a few rounds privately and report the results. It's possible.

Get ready for my 30% win ration El Blaze. I'll make it invincible beyond all imagination!
How is the online play? Is it set up similar to doa4? Better or worst? I haven't got a chance to play it online yet I was just cerious.
million times better than DoA4... actually you can't compare them. VF5 has some of the best net code I've come across in a while.

I have to agree with Rolento, I have not seen any issues with the network communications, especially compared to DOA4. On the other hand, that could because I have been getting my ass kicked by all challangers, but I think that is a personal issue more.

Technically its true. DOA4=lag fest, VF5=insanely smooth.
However, VF5's online is REALLY bare-bones, and DOA4s is really deep. But yeah, if we're talking gameplay (which is essentially most important), VF5 certainly takes the cake.
