If I buy a vc game in Wii mode, can I transfer it to the Wii u mode? If so can I play it on the game pad?

If the game is available on Wii U virtual console (very few games are) then you can upgrade to the Wii U version for a fee ($1 for NES games, $1.50 for SNES games). The Wii U version is playable on the game pad.

You can only upgrade VC games that have a Wii U version available. So, for example, you could upgrade Super Metroid for $1.50 right now, but you can't do the same for A Link to the Past. Hope that helps!
