Visio 26" HD Tv...is it a good one for gaming?

It is not... I read somewhere that Walmart has a different version of that TV from others stores, so it is of MUCH lower quality. I would recommend checking Newegg for an Olevia, or CC has a 32 in Olevia for $550 (it is $100 more but of much bigger size/quality.)

I have a 32" Vizio VX32L and its fantastic so far (at least to my eyes). Works great on component w/ 360, hdmi w/ dvr box, and hdmi w/ ps3. I'm not sure if I'd get it from Walmart though .. as regis suggested walmart has a certain model vizio they carry thats cheaply made compared to the vx-l models. You can read more about this on avsforum. They have an entire thread discussing vizio hdtvs there. (I'd link you but I'm at work and dont have the time)

For 200 more bucks you can get the Toshiba Regza 32" 720p tv at amazon. At 644 bucks I have heard its a good budget gaming tv.
Olevia is on par with Vizeo.
You can get a much better TV for your ~$500 price-point.
No, Olevia is a fantastic TV for the price. Vizio is very hit or miss, some models great some sub-par.

^^ This guy probably knows better than I do. But yeah, Olevia makes good TV's at a budget price. Expect super-cheap pricing come BF.

Definitely true, I tried the 42" plasma over the summer, but it made an awful buzzing noise (repair tech couldn't fix it) so I ended up taking it back for a 50" Sony LCD RPTV for $100 more.

I personally try to stay away from budget brands, but from what I've read Olevia is pretty good for people on a budget.

I'd also probably never go smaller than 50" inches, but again, depends on your budget. 26" is damn small though, I'd save up a bit more and wait for a deal on at least a 32" set.

I'd wait for Black Friday.

And DO NOT buy a Vizio from Walmart, they sell gimped versions. What you would want is the VX26L, not the VW26L.

And for $500.00, I'd go for an Olevia over Vizio. I'd try saving up a bit more money and getting something larger like a 32". A 26" for $500.00 is a rip off in my opinion.

Get a credit card from Circuit City or Best Buy and you'll be able to get a TV and not have to pay interest for like...3 years or something. That way you can get a better quality TV.

I was going to go for an Olevia originally, but I'm glad I didn't and got a more expensive TV.
No, you need a 46" Samsung LCD 1080p.
Wow, you can get a 46" Samsung for around $500.00? Where at? ;)

There's no reason to get in debt over a TV. It's better to get something that you can afford to pay off when your monthly credit card statement comes.

Don't buy Vizio from Walmart. The Vizio sold at C City and Costco is the way to go if you want a budget TV, walmarts models have much less quality. OXM picked the Vizio 32" HD LCD (the one sold at C city and Costco) as the best intro HD tv for the 360.

ok so i waited forever to get my 32 samsung but it was totally worth it when i finally got a deal. $749 at CC. just go to an electronics store and look at all the models in your price range and check their displays for a few minutes. isolate a few diff brands and then check every retailer website you can. i peeped CC and Frys the most, but bb walmart and target are good compasrison tools. youll definately get a better deal at an online retailer but i didnt want to deal with shipping or return issues. anyways keep googling black friday deals and something might pop up. another good tactic once you decide which model youd like is to have all the stores numbers in your phone so if youre tempted to impulse buy, you can make sure there is not a better deal elsewhere. also make sure you pricecheck the tv in the store against the stores website. the douche at cc didnt believe me when i told him the tv was $50 cheaper on their website. sorry about the lengthy post but i just hope this helps someone avoid some of the bullshit i went through. good luck!
one more thing. DO NOT put a big ticket item on a Best Buy card. all my friends with credit card bills bitch about that one the most.

oh yeah i would avoid an off brand for an hd set(the image looks washed out and response times seem worse) but if there are some positive testimonials here then checkem out.

Yeah, I picked up a 32" Samsung as well. It came to to like $700.00 at Circuit City after 10% off, and I also got a $24.00 gift card for them not having my television ready when I ordered it online.

Nonsense.

3 years no interest deals a great even if you have the money to pay it off right then. That way you can have the money in savings earning interest over the time period rather than just giving it all away at once.

And for those that can't afford it all at once, it's a great way to get the TV at cost with monthly payments that are easily affordable. Much better than buying a cheaper TV that one doesn't really want IMO.

I disagree. Considering it's interest free, it's not any different than saving your money over a period of months.

I bought a 37" VX37L Vizio from Costco around 2 years ago, it's perfect for gaming, the picture is nice and crisp. Although I'm not a certified professional, I honestly cannot tell the difference between the picture quality between a Vizio and my friend's Samsung.

However, the sound on these tvs is crap. But you're better off buying your own speakers and receiver anyways. I splurged and bought a HK receiver with some Ascends. But you'd be fine with an Onkyo and some Polks.
No, you need a 46" Samsung LCD 1080p.
I have to say that when I was looking at all the LCDs, the Samsungs are the ones that made me drool. Granted it's a bit more expensive (but nothing like the Sonys) but well worth it.

As for the 3 year no interest / no payment, if you do this MAKE SURE you pay it off before that 3 year mark or you incur all that interest at the end, even if you only have a balance of $1 left after the 3 years. They have to make money somehow and giving a long enough time for people to forget about / ignore the bills as they come monthly is sure to capture quite a few ignorant people.

Yep, definitely be sure to pay it off before the times up. But that shouldn't be a problem for most as it's a pretty small monthly payment over 24-36 months to pay it off in time. Especially if you pay more say at tax time when you get your refund and what not.

I own that exact TV and have it in my bedroom and have played both my PS3 and 360 on it with no issues. Good Color, HD looks good, and my Dish looks good on it. Yeah it is a more gimped than the same 26" sold at CC but from what I have read it because of inputs, same panel. Olivia and Vizio are 2 peas in a Pod the best of the tier 2 manufacturers. If your only looking to spend around 500.00 its a good TV, however I would hold out until Black Friday you might be able to score a bigger or Better TV for the money. But for that kind of deal be ready for standing outside for a few hours.

I have that exact same TV and it's absolute shit. When playing PS2 games on it, you can literally count the pixels because they are so chunky, even with games that support progressive scan. And it won't even play PS1 games on my PS2 with component....all you get is a scrambled picture. I can get them to play when I switch to composite or s-video, but the picture quality is complete garbage so I don't even bother.

Lag is horrible too. I pretty much had to give up playing all my favorite music & rhythm games because they're all out of synch on this TV. Thank god Guitar Hero has lag calibration though because I wouldn't be able to play if it didn't. And don't get me started about the shitty contrast ratio (think it's only 1:500). "Dark" games like Dead Rising are almost unplayable because you can't see more than 10 feet in front of you. If you adjust the contrast/brightness, all you get is a grey, washed-out mess.

I actually picked up a VX32L and then returned it the day I got it, and waited for a deal on the Samsung. Sure I paid a bit more, but I think I really made the right decision. The Vizios seem to do decently with HD content, but when it comes to SD stuff, forget about it.

If you don't have much cash, and really, really want an HD set then go for it.
How do you guys play games on 26inch tv's..

I have a 56inch DLP and I still think I need a bigger tv lol :(
I have a 37" Olevia for gaming, a 46" Sony for the home theater, and my older 27" crt sdtv that I have my Genisis/Sega CD and Saturn connected to. I find myself nearly sitting on top of the 27" when using it! LOL!:D

Damn, I'm pissed. My Walmart this morning had five 50" Sony 1080P televisions on sale... and I missed one by a few minutes.

They were selling them for $130.00.

dude these people do not know what they are talking about i just bought the same exact tv u are looking into and i think it is a great tv. i have a 360 and i play gears on it (btw i will pwn u all in gears) and it looks sick so dont listen to these people they dont even have the tv take my advice considering i actually own this tv, its a good one, peace

I looked at the specs for the VX vs the VW, what is the difference?

Oh, and OP, go to a few different stores and see what looks good to you. Keep in mind the picture quality may vary due to split signals at places that don't sell a lot of tv's (kmart, costco, walmart). You'll know your HD tv when you see it.

My roommates and I have a 144" high def projector set up in our entertainment room.. I'm still looking for a 32" for my bedroom, though.

With lots n lots of practice over the years. Hell, considering the fact that I had a 13" black n white tv for my Atari 2600 back in the day(which I sat right next to while playing), I'm used to playing on smaller tvs.

Unfortunately, with the current gen systems all but saying they REQUIRE an HDtv and some games(Dead Rising on the 360, I've heard)having small text that doesn't show up properly on smaller tvs, I guess I'll eventually HAVE to cave in and buy some bigger tv than I will EVER need.

I have a 42 inch version Vizio. I use it as a computer monitor primarily but have my 360 hooked up with HDMI and use it as a 2nd TV for the office. Picture looks great, component and HDMI look and work well. I've had mine about 6 months so far and loving it. I paid about $700 after rebates/coupons/discounts and free delivery from sears.com
