Update 7/12:
http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/804/804119p1.htmlThere are going to be eight pinatas in the game, four of which were on display today that are all fan favorites; Horstachio, Fudgehog, Pretztail, and Fizzlybear. The pinatas look just as they did in Viva Pinata and with good reason. Rare shared all of the assets from the game with Krome Studios. They came on giant hard drive that, incidentally, also had some Banjo assets on it (Confirmation of more than a CG trailer for Banjo existing!).
So Viva Pinata: Party Animals is part Mario Kart clone and part Mario Party clone. The racing segments are broken up with a series of mini-games. The length of the game can be adjusted to fit your time constraints by adding or removing race and mini-game segments. After each segment, points are awarded based on what place you come in which tally up on an overall leaderboard.
The racing segments are kept simple. This game is meant for the children after all. The right trigger makes the pinata run. The A Button jumped, X used a weapon (of which you could store up to two) and the B Button can be used to do a skid move that makes cornering a bit easier. Items can be snagged and used to slow your opponents progress such as honey jars that leave a sticky trail, another power-up to boost you along, and a sunflower that appeared to do nothing at all. First place is the goal.
We also tried out a few mini-games with varying success. Again, these are all simplistic and require only a few button presses or a single button and an analog stick to perform. Belching a raft across a pond was done by chugging a soda through a rapid tap of the A button. Once you drank it, alternating buttons flashed on the screen that, when hit, would cause the pinata to shake and exhale a nice, ripe burp. Another game we played called for eating apples quickly. This was done by slamming on the A button to much and using the analog stick to rotate the core. Our favorite was a version of hot potato where you got points for holding onto an explosive without having it go off in your face. It's a classic, but it never fails.

Sounds fun so far...it has the "rotate the joystick" games like Mario Party 1 & 2 used to have...

Am I the only one excited for this one? I love party games, haven't gotten enough of Mario Parties...Loved Fuzion Frenzy, though part 2 lacked the options that made part one golden. I have high hopes for this one though, it does remind me of the classic Fuzion Frenzy on XBOX mixed in with some Mario Party goodness.
Oh yeah...this should be out by this holiday season.
