What the hell is up with HP? Why did they join forces with Voodoo? I was checking out their notebooks today, and they are much too overpriced. Their "middleweight" notebook goes for $3.5K (Radeon X1600 256mb, and your normal C2D processor), whereas the Compal HEL-80S, fully customized, has much better components at $1.5K cheaper.

Is there an explanation for these blasphemous prices?

Voodoo (as well as Falcon NW and Alienware) is a top-tier PC gaming company. Their products are for enthusiasts and thus overcharge because they can. The same way a pair of Versace jeans costs 10 times more than jeans at Walmart, name brand products are always more expensive.

Probably beacuse nobody's ever heard of Compal...

And just because two laptops have the same components, doesn't mean they'll run equally well. VooDoo computers are usually some of the best gaming machines around...

To some people, an gaming optimized VooDoo is worth the extra $1500.

Well, what makes the Voodoos so much better than the Compal? I know that same specs =/= same performance, but it should be pretty damn near the same, no?

The Voodoo has Blast Processing

It blows my mind that they're putting a low-end Radeon x1600 in a $3400 laptop! For that money Dell gives you a Geforce 7950GTX (with a complete four year warrenty, etc.) or for a bit over half that a 7900GS. What a rip off.

My thoughts exactly. klwillis45, what's Blast Processing worth? It seems more like a marketing scam than anything else... just get a C2D 2.4GHz =\
