Anybody see Sukiyaki: Western Django? I'm quite interested, but would love to hear some feedback on it.
Oh my god... like you, I was very interested as well. I'm both a fan of westerns and Japanese cinema, but fuck... that movie is terrible. Maybe if you can get past the *horrible* acting, there's a half-way decent story in there, but I'll never know. For me, it was unwatchable (and I pride myself in reveling in awful movies... for example, I thought Death Race was watchable merely because it had so much fodder for comedy, Mystery Science Theater 3000 style. Sukiyaki doesn't even have that... it's not bad enough in the right ways to be enjoyable).

Gotta agree with zenintrude. I'm a western film devotee and a Japanese film enthusiast, but Sukiyaki Western Django is like the Jay-Z and R. Kelly collaboration: clearly not the best of both worlds. Its biggest problem is that Miike forced the cast to act in English. It's not their native language and it shows. It's like they're parroting words without any idea of what they're saying.

I'd recommend The Good, the Bad, the Weird (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0901487/) instead if you haven't watched it. It's got some great action/comedy sequences. The ending showdown mimics Leone a bit too closely for my taste and they play "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" one too many times. But it's a big spectacle of a film that clearly enjoys itself, and that makes it well worth watching.

Not a bad list. Might want to try printing out the pages for the movies you want and seeing if you can get a price match at Best Buy. I've had luck doing this in the past with printouts from Target.com (since they use amazon to sell their movies and therefore have amazon prices).

Why the hell would anyone waste their money on that on Blu-ray? Seriously. It was shot with a STANDARD definition camcorder. You'll get the exact same quality by up-scaling the DVD.

I rented it on Blu and I thought it was pretty good. The picture, along with over-the-top sets, made it look quite stunning. It's only $11, so I say go for it.

The Good, the Bad, the Weird is a much better film, but it's not available in the U.S. and probably won't be for quite some time. Also, from what I recall, the movie only plays "Misunderstood" once and it's use was just as good, if not better, than Kill Bill.

God damnit! I gave up waiting for a deal for Baraka a month ago...

If you like planet earth, you should definitely read up on Baraka.

Actually, the video for Blu-Ray has been downgraded more to make it fit the director's vision for the film.

Blu-Ray also brings better sound; it isn't just about the video

Huh. Weird. You must have watched a different cut from me. When I watched it last fall, I remember counting six separate times the song came up.

It's not a clearance price, but Casino Royale Collector's Edition is $15.00 at Wal-Mart. Definitely picked one up tonight, GREAT price on that.

I saw that CR for $15 yesterday but I bought Casino Royale :br: at TRU a long time ago for about $5 I believe it was =)

These pretty much look like prices Amazon has sold these movies for in the past.

Yeah, the post is from early April, but I couldn't find any other Wal-Mart BR threads to post in.

Thanks for the info. Just picked it up today..... after renting the single disc from Blockbuster yesterday.
was the casino royale marked at 15 cuz it still says 29 at all the walmarts i checked
Make sure it's the collector's edition, and it was marked $15. Just in case, I would have them scan it to double check the price.

Grabbed this today for $15.00...

They were boxing up a shitload of BD's including CR to "send back" according to the 2 guys pulling and packing.

If I had been 15 minutes later the 2 copies I saw (now 1) would have been gone.

Yeah, what's going on at Wally World. I was there Tuesday night and there was very little BDs there. Are they no longer going to carry them?

Just happened into my walmarts movie section and noticed some of the blu rays actually being reasonably priced. I did get the last copy of reservoir dogs at 10, crash at 10, and casino royale ce for 15.

The blu ray section was EMPTY. I'm talking like 13 blu rays total in the section and an endcap with some new releases. I haven't been looking at blu rays because I just re purchased a PS3 but this is really disappointing.

Agreed. It was bad bad bad bad bad...got it on a free Redbox Monday and felt ripped off cause of the lost time.

I'll also agree that it had no redeeming qualities. Tarantino is only in the movie for a few minutes, but his acting is probably the worst I've ever seen.

most movies shot with SD cameras look better on BR then they do on a up scaling player, have you not seen blade runner? that movie was made in the 80s and looks so much better on BR then it does on DVD in a up scaler

if you think otherwise i highly suggest buying a good HDTV and calibrating it.
