Walmart is slashing prices on TV's. YMMV

PCCharger

CAGiversary!
In store only and YMMV. Walmart employee said these unadvertised price reductions started Friday Feb,4.

If anyone is looking to buy a TV, get to Walmart now!!! Just bought a 40" LED Samsung+Blu Ray player+Wireless adapter combo for $523. This TV combo was advertised earlier in the week for $749 as part of their Super Bowl sale. Saved $200 of original price according to the receipt but was over $300 less than the display price. They were selling a 42" Vizio for $384 and 37" for $320. This was in Palm Coast, Fl so YMMV.

These prices were not advertised. I overheard an employee telling another couple about the 42" Vizio for $384 ($548 on display). Employee thought they bought the last one but would go check in the back. He came back and said they didn't have any more Vizios and told me about the deal on the Samsung combo. Crazy prices.

I'm very much in the market for that exact Samsung. When does this deal end?

I'm currently in the market for a bedroom TV somewhere around $200 - $300. lemme know what you find.

Oh that 37" might be the ticket.

Hmm I wanted to upgrade but it's a 60Hz and not a 120 Hz which what i have. I thought all LEDs were 120 Hz i haven't kept up with the TV stuff since i bought mine. Sounds like a good deal.

Congrats and sweet deal d00d. That Samsung set unfortunately is only 60Hz and 120Hz is a must for me as I like to watch Sports on my Tee Wee. :)

Wait till after the superbowl there will b better deals, I used to work in retail and ppl will purchase a huge TV to front to their friends during a superbowl party and the next day return the tv paying the restocking fee. Grab one of these using the BB coupon that gives u a $50 gift card with a purchase $500 or more, the coupon expires 2/12.

I think it is 60 Hz if is the same tv that was on sale earlier in the week. I thought all of the LED tvs were 120 hz as well. it seems like most of the LED on sale for under $1000 are 60 hz.

Not being 120hz was almost a deal breaker but it's for the bedroom and was too good a deal to pass up. I asked if the Bluray had internet apps (netflix) and the salesman said he would just bring it out so I could look at it. When he wheeled it out there was another couple there ready to jump on it if I didn't get it. It was the last one.:)
So is the yoga stuff for you or your lady? :)
lol. Yo Gabba Gabba. It's a kids show.
So again... for you or your lady?
don't hate, it's quality fun for the whole fam. i'm down with DJ Lance Rock.

I'd like to add that I saw similar deals as early as last Monday here in Columbia, MO. My girlfriend and I both picked up a 40" Samsung 1080P LCD for $328/each. Yeah, it is only 60hz, and yeah, it's kinda lacking on inputs (just a single of each type). But for ~$300, it was a damn fine deal. Perfect for the time being since I don't know where I'll be in a year (I graduate college in May), and it doesn't make me feel bad buying a much better TV sometime next year.

This is the time of the year when retailers start clearing out the (current year - 1) models for the (current year) models that were announced at CES. That, and there's always the Super Bowl sales going on this week, leading up to sales going into March Madness over the next month.

There will be good deals on (current year - 1) models until they sell out and we get the new TVs in.

I'm sure the OP found a lucky clearance deal and it's not likely to be duplicated many other places. If they are, then good luck in finding them.

I definitely can appreciate DLP. Great TVs at a great price. But to say they're "way better than LED" is certainly more opinion than fact. LED is MUCH thinner and MUCH lighter. Colors are *typically* more accurate. No need to change bulbs once every year or so. And there are quite a few people who see the "rainbow effect" and thus DLP isn't even an option.

My number one advice, always, is to go to the store with a price range in mind, and look at every TV in that price range. Decide what looks the best to you. Then check out reviews. As long as they're generally positive, you're probably good to go. Only you can decide what will make you happy.

Did the price adjust once they totaled you out? Or was it immediate (as it scanned)? I had the guy scan the Samsung set and it came up $748... I'm wondering if it would have been $523 once they hit total

Not sure. I don't know anything about retail but looking at the receipt I think it rang up $523. The guy told me that was the price before he even brought it out of the back room.

Hey PCCharger, I used to live in Palm Coast, FL. It was awesome living there but boy was it boring, really hard to get a job, and the Red light cameras are a killer and not to mention the spiders, I'm not scared of them but I can't remember how many times I got up in the middle of the night to get them for the fam.

On the tv's I will definitely check that out tomorrow (wait WM is open 24/7 but I am too tired)

This town needed the red light cameras and that's coming from someone that got a ticket in the mail. It was getting crazy how people would run red lights here causing a lot of accidents. I used to see 3 and 4 cars follow each other turning left on a red arrow.

Working for the dreaded WM corp, I can guess that this deal is one out of three possible situations. In a crowded retail area, WM is big on reducing prices on critical merch to outdo the competition. Point 2: superbowl week, always a big temporary markdown time for tv's. And finally, if you hear any financial news lately, WM is even taking a hit in this crappy economy (we used to do well with our low-priced garbage, not this time) so if this store is anything like mine we're totally backstocked with tv's that were supposed to be sold by Xmas but then came the constant influx of regular stock.

And yeah, if you ever pay CLOSE attn to those WM ads promoting our Electronics Dept, WM promotes that we sell the same BRANDS "that you know and trust"--but over half of our tv's are the ultra-low budget versions of what BB etc sell. And hence, 60hz-aplenty.

EDIT: So my point in all of that was that, this isn't entirely uncommon for WM right now, but it's definitely YMMV; so don't get your hopes up... at all.
