I thought I would post this up for those who want an ALL region player that can play region 2/4 PAL discs. I know a few people were curious about an all region player.
I tested it on my Shaun of the dead and Spaced discs and they work fine.
Havent tested it on all my other region 2 as they are all out on loan to friends, but I imagine they will work fine as well. As soon as I get them back ill report on them.
Its a cheap little player, but it gets the job done.

It requires an easy peasy remote hack found here: (type in 4 numbers )

The player itself can be found here: 34.99 w/ 10 $ rebate

If any mod can alter that link to include a CAG tag so that the site gets credit, that would be great. (i got that link thru going thru the cc link on the front page but i think it might have been lost along the way)

If you guys liked Shaun of the Dead, then you really should check out Spaced.
Theres loads of amazing region 2 comedy that everyone is missing out on that you will now be able to enjoy if you get a region 2 player.

Ya you can get patches to make them all region, but just in case anyone hates to watch dvds on their pc and would rather watch it on the couch, I thought they might be interested. I'll take my couch and tv any day over office chair and 17" monitor :p

or what about borrowing another region dvd from someone and making a copy on your computer. It strips the decoding, and is legal. Costs about a dollar and u get a region free dvd for it. Just gotta know someone u can borrow from. oh and u loose a tiny bit of dvd quality. But it does build a library

For my PC DVD Rom drive, theres an app called AnyDVD by Slysoft that makes the drive region free without worrying about limited number of changes.

Arakias, I think they are about the same. The one I just posted about I got for a friend because he doesnt have a pc dvd player and only a ps2 to play dvds on. I dont know how easy it is to unlock the region coding on the one that you bought though.
The one I posted is region free but its just got a code on it you have to type in and you can choose any region you want including 0 and its just really easy to unlock. No messing about with software or such.

EDIT: Cag1000 isn't that almost the definition of pirating a movie? Making a copy of something that isnt yours to build up your library?

Noodle,
The one I posted is listed as region free on another deal site, I just ripped the affiliate link from the url.
The hack is listed here

I for some reason thought you saw the post on slickdeals and brought over your fav of the 2 here.
thanks for the info.

my region 2 dvds are Shawshank and Snatch (out there before here), Lock Stock Directors Cut and an Ali G compliation. Once I test these on the new player, I'll be getting Shaun of the Dead.
So if I don't have a DVD rom drive in my PC will these work??
By work did you mean play region free? These will work with your TV if thats what you mean, or at least they are supposed to. They are cheap dvd players and could go bust. I havnt tried mine yet and thus dont know about region free yet, but Noodles post lists one that works.

On the PC side DVD Idle Pro has been working well and back in the day Remote Selector though I haven't used that in a long time.

For the TV I just picked up a Philips DVP642 from my local Target for 69.99 last week so I can retire one of my Apex AD-600A players I used for my foreign films. I checked a lot of sites and forums for a good replacement and this seems to be a favorite for dvd players that can be made region free. So far it's worked great and is region free with a remote hack just like my Apex was with the infamous secret menu. As I type it's currently playing the Korean Arahan dvd. In addition it is DivX certified, can play xvid, video cds, mp3s, jpegs, display subtitles from a couple different file formats and according to multiple sources around the web can properly convert anamorphic PAL to NTSC which many players can't. I can't test the conversion myself as my only PAL disc is full screen and my Spaced and Shaun of the Dead won't be here until next month. I haven't tested all the features thouroughly myself yet, but so far it's done a good job of playing pretty much everything I've thrown at it. My only problem so far was with 2 xvids, the one I was going to test the subtitle support with wouldn't play at all and the other looked like it had compression problems with strange color in spots and artifacts, but it looked better on the computer. I'm thinking since it's such a good little workhorse I might just pick up a spare like I did with the Apex which I got just as they were pulling them off shelves due to the secret menu. The remote hack is quite easy to remember too unlike my Apex hack that I kept forgetting. With the tray open just press 7, 8, 9, OK and then enter 0 for region free or what ever region you want it set to.

Here is a link to Amazon for the player and if someone could verify that CAG would get credit for purchases it would be appreciated as I will probably use the link myself if I pick up a spare. Thanks!

I already have a Ritek that plays Divx and Xvid backups as well as all region dvd's, but i will pass this info along to some of my friends looking for a deal.

For those waiting for Spaced, theres apparently a 3 disc deluxe version of both seasons/sets about to be released.
Only some dvd players have region free hacks, maybe a higher percentage than some, but definatly not all.

Ya definitely wait for the 3 disc one, while the regular version still has tons of extras, the 3 disc will have a full disc of extras inh addition to the ones that are already on the regular version.
But if you cant wait for it, everyone is dumping thier regular versions on ebay for cheap in anticipation of the 3 disc release so you can score a set cheap.

man, i've had this DVD player for about a year now, i got it at "the fell off the back of a truck" sale for free. good looks on the region free code, didnt think it had one. :D

That site is very helpful for finding which players can be hacked to remove region and macrovision protections. They also have a dvd media compatibility list there.

The copy of Spaced I ordered is the deluxe version which is what is holding up my copy of Shaun of the Dead. I haven't seen Spaced yet, but I enjoyed Shaun of the Dead so I'm hoping that will be just as funny.
