I heard about this yesterday for the first time, but the only info I could find was the Japanese release date. Glad to see more about it.

After the horrid Wario World which I place at the top of my "worst games of all time" list (tied with Star Fox Adventures) I will never play another Wario game again. I just hate everything about that stupid character. It's almost unbearable to see him in other Nintendo titles.

Not even WarioWare titles?

hell yeah! if it's like the old GB wario games, I'm totally in! played those to death!

i wouldn't be surprised if this were a wiwware title as well... doubt it though.

I dislike Wario as a character, but damn Wario Land for virtual boy was awesome. Better than his gameboy antics.

Definitely need to see bigger screens. I hope they choose the route of beautiful stylized 2D, instead of GBA but bigger.

Warioland has easily become my most anticipated wii game.
Gotta love wario and gotta love 2d. Would love to see sonic and metroid back in 2d on the big screen.

So Nintendo has done it again. So yeah before I thought well Nintendo wont be putting out any good games this year that I want after MK, then I see this. Oh fuck yes how I love Wario Land.

I wish the screenshots were bigger, it's hard to see anything sort of detail in those.

I wonder if it's a retail game or a Wiiware game?

It's supposed to sell for $50US, so it's a commercial game.

And another vote for this being an unofficial Mischief Makers sequel. :)

Note to Nintendo: I will buy every 2D game you put out for the Wii (as a full release, not every Virtual Console/Wii Ware title...because I don't have enough space on my Harddriveless Wii). Please make them good, regardless of the fact that I will be buying them. Thank you :)

Oh and yes...a 2D Wario game is VERY welcome in the Goomba household.

I feel the same way, as long as they are good

Nintendo, change the title of this game to "Metroid Dread."

And replace Wario with Samus.

And then hire those kids to tighten up the grafix.

We'll talk then.

Do not take the above to mean I don't want this game, cuz me does. I would just like to see another 2D Metroid. I mean I'd like another 3D one too (and let's not start the argument over which is better), but a 2D one would be like sweet icing on a cake made of icing.

I have to agree with this whole heartedly I"d "love" to finally see another 2d metroid. Not that this game looks bad it looks very interesting but my last experience with wario was the master of disguise which was exceedingly dull after the gimmick of changing suits wore off :(.
full priced retail game? this would be perfect for wiiware :(
Possibly, but I'm all for 2D sidescrolling platformers remaining valid in the retail space. I'd rather they not be relegated to downloadables.

bah... I hate myself for loving those stupid games.

It's just that I really hated Wario World - I only paid $10 for it and I still think I got completely hosed. There was nothing redeeming about it at all and I'm still fired up 3-4 years later... of course if this new game is fun I'll check it out since, you know, I like to play games that are fun... but I still hate Wario.

This is quite awesome, and it's not even a Wiiware game! Personally never enjoyed the other Warioland games, but I support the effort and maybe I'll like this one.

I'm hoping this means Nintendo is working on the true sequel to Super Mario World already. Too much to ask?

I too am excited to find that another 2D game is coming to the Wii. Now if we could only see a new Donkey Kong Country, for either the DS or Wii.

That would be incredible, though it would likely land on the DS.

Yeah the Wariolands were awesome. Then they released master of disguise which I was hyped for till i read some of the reviews... ugh.

If they can make this a good game this will be worth my hard earned cash. Warioland was so awesome.

Maybe, but if Nintendo was smart they'd do it. I know many people that are over their 40's, and loved Mario games. But they never got a DS or other handhelds because of the small screen. If Nintendo could advertise this game to them I think it would do better than a DS game.

dislike: 2d platforming with motion controls

side note: goomba478... i just realized you're the one who sent me my pinball hall of fame through goozex.. thanks! it's easily one of my favorite wii games.. i think i easily have over 20 hours into it so far.

It's in the new Famitsu, just need to find some scans. Probably the same pics, possibly better quality. Otherwise we'll have to wait till they pop up on Famitsu.com.
This looks like a GBA game.
No, it doesn't. The Famitsu scans show what appears to be a very highly polished take on this old-school 2D style. Plus we haven't seen an ounce of it in motion yet.

I know. I was exaggerating.

Still, this really needs to be a budget game...but I guess this is Nintendo. They sold those Warioware console games for $50 as well.

The game has hand-animated cutscenes, so hand-animated sprites wouldn't be out of the question.
